110 Her Heart

Delia’s POV

I held onto my arms and questioned angrily, "Who changed my clothes? Was it you, Albert?"

"What do you think?"

Albert looked me up and down, his gaze seemed to appreciate the dress I was wearing, but that look made me uncomfortable.

"Do you wish I changed your clothes for you?"

"Of course not!" I blurted out.

"Well, if that's the case, then don't ask," Albert raised his hands in response to my agitation, making a "calm down" gesture. "Delia, I brought you here to show you something."

To show me something...

Could it be the box he mentioned, the one my dad kept in his study?

"Delia, I think you might have guessed," Albert looked at me with a knowing expression, and smiled slightly, "That's right, I brought you here to reveal the secret your father hid in the box."

Even though I guessed right, I didn't feel the slightest bit of joy.

There was a voice in the back of my mind telling me that I didn't need to know what secret my father had hidden in the box. Knowing this wouldn't benefit me in any way.

I didn't know where that voice came from, but I instinctively felt it was my intuition protecting me, and I should heed its advice.

"I don't want to know!"

Before Albert could make any further moves, I interrupted, "I don't want to stay here either. I want to go back."

After speaking, I turned and ran towards the direction of the study's entrance.

I reached for the intricately carved copper handle, tried to open the door and leave.

I turned the handle twice, but to no avail.

Suddenly, I had a sinking feeling. I extended my other hand, overlapping them on the handle, and used all my strength to turn it.

My forehead started to sweat, but the handle remained motionless.

"Delia, don't struggle in vain. Come over here," Albert's voice reached my ears. His words seemed to hold a certain kind of enchantment, unexpectedly halting my attempts to turn the doorknob.

My body involuntarily turned backward, heading in the direction of Albert's presence.

I felt something was wrong.

The memory of him taking away my pearl necklace resurfaced. I forced myself to concentrate, summoning all the mental strength I could muster to resist his command.

Yet, my strength wasn't sufficient. Even though I exerted all my effort, my body still turned towards Albert.

My feet were itching to move, and I clenched my teeth to hold myself still.

I knew that if I let my guard down even for a moment, my feet would carry me towards Albert.

"Delia."

Albert noticed my resistance and forceful expression.

He placed the wine glass in his hand on the desk and began walking towards where I stood, step by step.

"You're not coming over?"

"I'm not!"

I raised my hands in front of my chest, using gestures to convey my resistance to Albert's approach.

"And don't you come any closer either!"

"Heh, you don't really have a say in this."

With just a few steps, Albert reached me.

When we were just a step apart, he extended his hand and firmly wrapped his arm around my waist. Now our bodies are pressed tightly together.

"Your father's biggest secret is right before your eyes. How can you not take a look?"

"I..."

Before I could finish my sentence, I felt Albert's grip like an iron clamp, tightly constricting my waist.

He even lifted me slightly. Albert was quite strong. He held me as if I were a doll and carried me towards the back of the desk.

"Delia, trust me, this is a secret you must know."

Despite his forceful actions, Albert's voice still sounded seductive and gentle.

"I swear you won't regret knowing this secret."

Perhaps Albert's words were too enchanting. I somehow started to give up my resistance.

And so, Albert led me to the farthest corner of the study.

Just as Albert had said, there was a square box placed there.

The box was entirely black, and it wasn't particularly large. Based on my estimation, its length was only about as long as my forearm; I could easily lift it myself.

After we reached the front of the box, Albert finally let go of me, allowing me to stand on the ground again.

I rubbed my waist, which Albert's grip had made sore.

As soon as I touched the spot where Albert had touched me, a shiver ran down my spine. However, before I could voice my complaint, Albert had already reached out and swiftly opened the box with a "whoosh."

"Delia, take a look. What's inside?" Following Albert's words, I looked into the box.

Inside, I saw only one thing. It was a heart, covered in what looked like thorn-like blood vessels, pulsating "thump thump."

"Oh my God!" After seeing the contents of the box, a wave of fear surged through me. I couldn't help but exclaim, and then I raised my hands, tightly covering my eyes.

"Delia, you must look at what's inside the box!" Seeing my evasive behavior, Albert sternly ordered. He extended his hand and forcibly pulled my hands away. "No escaping!"

"No, I won't look!" Although my hands were pulled away, I still kept my eyes tightly shut, refusing to face the somewhat terrifying heart.

"Delia, didn't you say you love your mother very much? If you didn't recognize your mother's heart, how can you say you love her?" Albert's words hit me like a heavy blow.

What? This is my mother's heart? That's impossible!

"No, it's not true!" I opened my eyes and stared at Albert angrily. "Don't talk nonsense. My mother passed away many years ago. It can't be her heart. You're definitely lying to me! I don't want to stay with a liar like you. I want to go back!"

"Delia, is self-deception really that enjoyable?" Albert said while tightening his grip on my hands. The chilling coldness of his skin once again touched mine. "Perhaps you don't know, your father wasn't your grandfather's favorite son. In fact, he was the least favored. If your father hadn't used some special methods, how could he become an Alpha?"

Caught by Albert's grasp, I couldn't escape anywhere. In this helpless situation, his words managed to shift my attention slightly. 1

"What does this have to do with this heart?" Through gritted teeth, I asked, "You're not trying to say that this heart is my father's special way, are you?"

"Exactly, he knew there was a treasure within your mother, something that could help him become an Alpha. He would do anything to achieve that goal."

Surprisingly, Albert confirmed what I said.

"To obtain that treasure, your father used every means to seduce your mother. At that time, your mother was still very young. She thought she had found true love. After being with your father, she gave him her most precious possession. Once your father succeeded, your mother was no longer useful to him. And that bastard killed your mother!"

What Albert was saying was something I had never heard before. The amount of information in these revelations was overwhelming, leaving me unable to process it all at the moment.

I stared blankly for a while, trying to make sense of everything. But before I could fully grasp it, hot tears suddenly welled up in my eyes.

The tears streamed down my cheeks, falling onto the hand that Albert held. It seemed as if he was startled by the sensation, and he quickly let go of my hand.

With Albert releasing his grip, it was as if I lost my support. My body uncontrollably slid downward, and Albert didn't offer any assistance. I ended up sitting on the floor.

From my seated position, I actually had a clearer view of the heart. Despite feeling uneasy, I forced myself to look at it. Upon closer examination, I noticed that this bright red heart was pulsating vigorously, with a rhythm similar to a normal human heart.

But that wasn't all. If I looked closely, I could even make out a white shape within the heart. This white shape was circular, resembling a large and round pearl.
