32 Is Nuri Your Family?
Sibyl’s POV
Amy hurried into the room and whispered in my ear, “News has come from the palace that Prince Doyle is ill.”
Is my brother sick?
“Has the Doctor been to see him?”
Amy said anxiously, “No. Since you left the palace, the servants have treated Prince Doyle with more contempt. It is said that the prince often eats cold leftovers and is not well taken care of. Yesterday, the Prince fell ill with a fever, and the servants waited for hours before they went to see the Doctor. But when the doctor heard that the patient was Prince Doyle, they refused. They would rather spend their time making beauty pills for the queen than treating the prince.”
I bit my lip.
Doyle was just a 10-year-old kid. When I was in the palace, I could look after him, and the servants did not dare to go too far. But now I have left the palace to marry Nuri, who hates royalty. Everyone thought Nuri hated me and my brother, so they bullied him even more.
If my brother died in the palace because of illness, my father and the Queen would not be sad. My father never cared for his children and the Queen hated all princes and princesses who were not born to her.
In this world, only I care about my brother, only I can save him.
“Amy, get me a carriage. I'm going to the palace.”
“Your grace, should we tell Sir Rodriguez in advance?”
I understand Amy's concern. Nuri hated the Royals, and one of the conditions for me to be his wife was to sever all ties with them. If I go back to the palace alone without his permission, he will be angry.
I asked Nuri's servant, “Do you know where Nuri is now?”
The servant averted his eyes as if he did not want to answer my question.
Amy got angry. “Why didn't you answer Mrs. Rodriguez's question?”
The servant shivered.
“Sir Rodriguez is with Miss Windsor,” he said.
Azariah Windsor?
My heart ached for a moment.
Azariah Windsor is of age. She must be talking to Nuri about their marriage.
“Are you all right?” Amy worried about me.
Clutching my chest, I said to Amy, “I'm fine. We're going to the palace. My Brother is still sick.”
Amy quickly prepared a carriage and we set off for the palace.
……………………………………………………
I am now Mrs. Rodriguez, and although the people in the palace rolled their eyes at me, they did not dare to stop me. I soon arrived at my brother Doyle's room.
“Doyle.” I called his name.
But he could no longer answer me. He has fallen into a coma because of the fever. His face was red and hot, and his lips were pale. The pain of his illness made him tremble even in his coma.
“Water...” his voice was low.
I hurried to give him some water.
My tears came out. These damn servants, they don't even give him water.
I felt his forehead. His temperature is very high. I must find a doctor to treat him at once.
“Amy, get some ice to cool him down. I'll get the Doctor.”
After leaving Doyle's room, I went directly to my father's palace.
Ever since he got sick, my father has been chasing the Elixir of life. He kept many doctors and wizards in the palace. All the doctors were working for him and the queen, and they would not have treated Doyle without his orders.
I knelt outside the palace door and shouted, “Your Majesty, please allow me to see you.”
I waited for a long time before the door finally opened. A servant came up to me and said, “Your Grace, His Majesty would like you to come in.”
I took a deep breath and walked into my father's palace.
It was the first time I had walked into his palace in 18 years. His palace was more luxurious than I had imagined, decorated with porcelain, paintings and jewels. There was a smell of oriental spices in the room, mixed with the smell of herbs, which made me feel a little uncomfortable.
I was ushered into a bedroom at the back of the hall by a servant. This bedroom is very big, with a translucent curtain across the middle, blocking my line of sight. I can only vaguely see the person behind the curtain.
I seldom see my father. I don't even know what he looks like.
Before he could speak, I heard a cough. There were five doctors in the room, and they hurried up to serve him.
He is much better after taking the medicine. He opened the curtain with his hand and looked at me. “I've been wondering why Nuri Rodriguez hasn't abandoned you. Now I know the answer.”
I looked up and saw an old, sick, fierce face.
“A woman's face is indeed a weapon.” He withdrew his hand and lay back down on the bed.
The curtain closed again.
“Your Majesty, my brother Doyle is ill. He has a fever and I beg you to send a doctor to treat him.”
“Doyle...” he was trying to remember the name.
“He is Meggie's son, the only prince in our palace.”
He chuckled. “I didn't think I still had a son alive... Do you know that if your husband Nuri were to charge into the palace one day, the Crown Prince would be the first person to be killed?”
I looked up in surprise.
“Only your life can be saved in the whole palace. Nuri will kill us all sooner or later.”
Why is he telling me this?
All I want to do now is save Doyle's life.
“Please save Doyle.” I knelt down.
He pointed to a doctor. “You go to the Prince's palace and treat him.”
“Yes,Your Majesty。”
The Doctor left the room.
“Thank you.” I was happy.
"Wait a minute," he said in a low voice. "I have something to tell you... I can see you don't want Doyle to die, do you?"
"Yes, he is my family."
"Is Nuri your family, too?" 1
I gritted my teeth. "Yes."
He smiled. "I know you hate me. If Nuri wanted to kill me, you probably wouldn't be sad. But what if Nuri wanted to kill Doyle? What would you do?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Don't play dumb. You know why I married you to Nuri. Had it not been for this marriage, Nuri would have turned the palace into hell by now. I let his family die in the war five years ago, and five years later, he came back for revenge... ... You did your job and delayed his revenge. But Nuri won't be obsessed with you forever. He will kill the Royals, including your brother."
"This can't be..." my heart was pounding.
I always refused to think about this cruel question, but my father's words hit me hard.
"You have another choice." My father gestured for a servant to hand me something.
It's a dagger.
"You can kill him. If my Elixir of Life fails, your brother will be the next King and you can all live."
"No!" I let go and the dagger fell to the ground.
I will not harm Nuri.
"Looks like you've picked your team," he said in a voice that scared me.
"No, I can find a way. Without revenge and death, we can settle this peacefully."
He smiled. "You are so naive. Only one of the Royals and the Rodriguez family can survive."
I shook my head in pain. I didn't believe it could happen. Nuri is not such a cruel person. My brother is a child. Nuri would not kill him.
The doctor who had just left returned to the room and said, "Your Majesty, Doyle's illness is too serious. I cannot treat him. Please punish me."
"What are you talking about?" I was surprised.
"I'm sorry, Your Grace."
I felt like I was falling apart. I shouted, "Doyle is just a kid. He didn't do anything wrong, but he suffered neglect, abuse and conspiracy. Why aren't his servants taking good care of him? Why won't the doctor treat him? Why do you make such a mockery of his life? You're all murderers. If Doyle dies, I'm coming for you!"
I don't care about royal etiquette any more. I burst out of my father's Palace in tears and ran to Doyle's room.
It's raining. At first it was light rain, but soon it was pouring.
The rain fell on me, adding to my despair.
Doyle, my brother, who can save him?
I tripped over a stone. I screamed and fell forward, but was caught by a pair of big hands.
"Sibyl, why are you here? What Happened?"
The heavy rain blurred my vision.
I recognize him as Manolo.
I cried and said, "My brother, Doyle, he's sick. Please... please save him."
He held up an umbrella to protect me from the heavy rain. He held my shoulder. “Don't cry, I'll help you.”
