Chapter 43 – Forgot she was pregnant?
"Robin, I'm not tasty,"2
Sabrina tried to stay calm, as she refused the offer. Robin felt awkward, holding the two glasses of wine. 'Did she refuse because of what I said about her boyfriend?'
Robin pursed his thin lips. Besides, do people drink wine because they were thirsty? "I am offering you wine, not water, Sabrina. Did you lose your head?"
"I don't like wine," Sabrina refused again, trying her best to maintain her confidence and not give herself away. Perhaps she thought that her ex-husband did not know her well enough but Robin knew a few things about her better than she thought.
"That is a lie. I've seen you drink wine so why don't you want to drink?" His tone this time sounded suspicious and Sabrina was lost for words. She was not really a good liar but had been trying her best so far in the bid to keep away from Robin.
"Because I hate women who drink," Martin responded behind them, Sabrina was very pleased by his intervention but she was damned to think that Robin would so easily give up.
"Then you are a hypocrite, bringing her to a place like this," Robin responded to Martin with a heated gaze. He was still looking for ways to deal with the idiot for the shame he caused him and this seemed to be the perfect opportunity.
"She is here to sell," Martin said to Robin, who raised his brows. For as long as he knew, a saleswoman would try to blend in so that excuse was just too lame.
The more Martin and Sabrina united against the wine, the more Robin felt that something was wrong.
With a little thought, he said, "Well if you go to Rome, do as the Romans do."
He tried to give the wine to Sabrina and paused, his eyes closing into a squint. "See? She's shivering. A little wine and her confidence will be bolstered."
Robin had no idea of the reason why Sabrina did not want to drink but her shivering form showed that she needed a little wine. Looking at her, so many thoughts run through his head as she spoke in a pleading tone,
"Please Robin, I don't want to drink wine."
Robin started at her with dismay and suspicion. Lifting one of the wine glasses to his mouth, Zayla walked up to them and said, "Darling, if she doesn't want it, I'll drink."
Both Sabrina and Robin stilled. Did Zayla want to kill her child? At that moment, all she thought of doing, was gaining a little attention to herself but not for once did she think about her condition.
Robin's lips pursed. When he opened it again, his gaze on her was serious, he asked, "Zayla, did you forget that you are pregnant?"
Zayla's face reddened from so much embarrassment; she could have buried herself should a hole have been dug for her. Her envy towards Sabrina seemed to have wiped her sense of thinking.
"I did not know that it contained alcohol. I want something nonalcoholic," she said awkwardly and Robin turned to another waiter, saying, "Please get her something non-alcoholic."
"Yes Mr. Jewel," the waiter nodded and left. Robin returned his attention to Sabrina, no longer intending to force her due to how she kept shivering. Whereas a thought had formed in his mind concerning this matter.
"Well, if you won't drink, I'll just drink it for you," Robin gulped down the drinks in the two wine glasses, one after the other. "Let's not keep Bright waiting," he held Sabrina's hand after dropping the two empty glasses on an empty tray one of the waiters held.
Zayla's fingers were digging in her palms, by the way Robin held his ex-wife. He had not cared for the waiter to return with her drink before leaving. Lucky for her, she was not the only uncomfortable one in this situation. Martin grabbed Sabrina by the other arm.
"What if I take her? She is my girlfriend, you know?"
Zayla was nodding her head in agreement but Robin glared at Martin, feeling that it was time to put him in his place. Robin was quite close to the Borough president due to his amazing charitable deeds.
Those acts earned him the privilege to be among the VIP guests privy to cut the cake with the Borough President. Martin had not reached that level since most of his expenditure had to be approved by his sister.
Robin thought that it was time to put Martin in his place as revenge for the embarrassment he caused in front of the media. "The only reason she is getting this deal is because he saw a similar one on Zayla's neck so this is my referral and I get a cut from her commission. At least for overbilling me," Robin said before dragging Sabrina away with a smirk on the corner of his lips.
Martin's hands balled into fists, his gaze darkened, whiles Zayla lowered her head and went to her table. Devin had watched everything unfold from a distance and was incredibly worried. He walked to Martin and whispered, "What happened?"
"I think he's trying to get back at me," Martin replied in a bittertone. Devin's gaze darkened but since the swap in who Sabrina's fake boyfriend should be, his power was limited.
Besides, he did not want to put up any stunt for the media to reveal his identity. That would as well ruin everything. All their plans are to make Robin hate Sabrina, so he won't suspect when her pregnancy began to show that he was the father of her unborn child.
"I could punch him in the face right now but that would only raise suspicions. Lie low. As soon as the necklace is sold, get her out of there," Devin advised before looking around and signaling his second kid sister,
"Lizzy, you should stay close to Sabrina for payments and more jewelry."
Lizzy nodded her head, following where Robin had taken Sabrina when someone blocked her way.
"Hi, we meet again. can I get your name?" Daniel smiled and asked her. It seemed like the night was destined to be a bad one. At first, it was Robin, and now, it was his best friend.
