Chapter 296 – How It Feels to Keep Secrets
"See, I'm alright. None of my vital organs have been hit, and I'll be discharged in a few hours," Robin weakly smiled and proudly announced as soon as he spotted Sabrina at the door.2
He hadn't forgotten the promise she had made before the bullet was removed, and he eagerly anticipated its fulfillment.
He didn't want to display any weakness, wanting Sabrina to see him as strong and capable.
Sabrina walked over, her smile tinged with sadness. Her heart was filled with a whirlwind of emotions, as she struggled to understand why this man had been too proud to show his love in the beginning.
Proud? Yes, that was the only word Sabrina could use to explain Robin's past behavior, aside from Zayla's manipulations.
She no longer felt foolish for still being in love with him and was relieved that he had changed before it was too late.
Taking his hand, she sat down on the chair beside him, her smile deepening. She knew that Robin wasn't as fine as he claimed to be and spoke up,
"I'll talk to the doctor myself."
Before Robin could stop her, she pressed the emergency bell, summoning a doctor into the room.
Robin tried to signal the doctor, but whether it was intentional or not, the doctor did not seem to notice, as Sabrina asked the doctor,
"What is his condition?"
The doctor greeted Sabrina with a smile, already aware of her connection to Robin.
He held onto hope that she could assist in persuading Robin, who had been stubborn thus far.
Once the doctor finished examining Robin, it became evident that the only person he was eager to see was Sabrina.
"He's stable, but I recommend keeping him under observation for twenty-four hours," the doctor advised.
"No," Robin defiantly objected, though his voice sounded weak and he appeared drowsy. The doctor continued speaking to Sabrina, stating,
"Well, he declined that option, so we will discharge him once the anesthesia wears off. He will be provided with antibiotics, pain medication, and dressings for his wound. For now, we will transfer him to the regular ward."
Amused, Sabrina glanced at Robin and shook her head. Then, she turned to the doctor and firmly stated,
"He will remain here for twenty-four hours."
Unbeknownst to Sabrina, Robin despised hospitals. The only reason he had been visiting recently was because of her, and he longed for his freedom.
"No, I feel perfectly fine," Robin attempted to sound normal, but his weakness was still evident.
Sabrina believed it was her duty to honor her promise, but she also wanted Robin to fully recover.
"But..." Sabrina wanted to mention that the anesthesia had not yet worn off when Robin interrupted her,
"Have you eaten, my queen?"
Sabrina immediately froze. She had intended to eat, but with all the exciting discoveries, it slipped her mind.
Her reaction gave away her guilt, and Robin shook his head, a frown forming on his face.
"You haven't eaten since morning?"
It was almost sunset, and the four-month pregnant woman hadn't consumed anything. Robin felt a deep sadness, expressing his concern.
"Look, you can't take care of yourself, and where is Devin? I mean, Lizzy and Matilda?"
His anger extended to all the mentioned names, but considering the kind of day they had, he sighed and continued,
"Let me just order food for you."
As he reached for his phone, Sabrina pressed his hand, still holding it.
"Robin, I will order food for both of us."
Robin shook his head. Sabrina was overly stressed, and it wasn't good for her condition. He told her,
"You need to go home and rest. Daniel will take care of me."
Disappointment flashed in Sabrina's eyes, but she didn't want to argue with Robin in front of the doctor. Instead, she said,
"Doctor, please move him to the ward. I will discuss with him and get back to you."
The doctor agreed. While Robin was being moved to the VIP ward, he saw Daniel and signaled for him to follow them. However, Sabrina stopped him with a serious expression.
"I can take care of him," she said.
"Sabrina, have you eaten?" Devin suddenly recalled and asked. But looking at her appearance, he knew she hadn't and added,
"I know you haven't. Let me call your chef to deliver food for you and Robin." He instantly did as he said.
As soon as they reached the VIP ward, Robin remembered something and said,
"My queen, your antenatal is supposed to be in two days, but we should have you checked here and now."
Sabrina agreed, but in order not to stress Robin, she suggested, "That is fine, but I think we should focus on getting you well."
Robin refused. Even if he was still in bed, he could still speak and give orders.
"No. I have to take care of you, and don't worry about me. Daniel will be there to help dress the wound, and after the first two or three days, I can't have a real shower, so he'll just have to help me clean up."
Sabrina did not like the idea and frowned.
"Why won't you let me take care of you?" she asked seriously, annoyed that she was there and Robin was seeking Daniel's help.
Robin gazed deeply into Sabrina's eyes and spoke with sincerity,
"I feel this way because you never allowed me to take care of you when you selflessly donated your kidney to save my life." Sabrina's eyes welled up with tears as she grasped the meaning behind Robin's words.
"Can you understand the pain I felt?" Robin asked, his eyes reflecting his anguish. "You saved my life, yet I couldn't even be there to support you during your recovery. Was it because you didn't want me to love you out of pity?" Robin questioned once more.
This was the turning point, where everything began to unravel. If only Sabrina had been honest with him, Zayla would have never come between them. It pained Robin's heart that he wasn't there for Sabrina.
"I'm sorry," Sabrina uttered, her voice trembling with tears.
Robin managed a faint smile and explained, "Apology accepted. I just wanted you to understand the weight of keeping secrets."
Sabrina's smile grew upon hearing his words, and she inquired,
"Speaking of secrets, when were you planning to inform me that I am a signatory to all your accounts?"
Instantly, Robin tensed up, his face draining of color. "Who told you that?" he questioned; his voice filled with alarm.
