Max went absolutely wild with his powers once he realised that the Freaky God was dead and the only people who could turn the tide of war were the three men in front of him. 1

If the god was dead, it meant that Zippo and Anna were on their way back to cover him, evening out the odds of the battle, which meant that he no longer needed to conserve his strength or worry about dying, he could go all out, and cause maximum damage.
