Chapter 88 - Teamwork

On the ground,

...bang.bang.bang....

Kanon saw the Aragamis fell down one by one. This sudden change put the Aragamis in chaos as they couldn't see who's kiling them which it didn't take long before all them were killed leaving Kanon on the ground being shocked and grateful towards the person who was helping her.

Moments later, Kanon could see a person walking towards her but she couldn't tell who it was as it was still raining hard added that her eyes were still filled with tears.

The moment John got close enough that was when Kanon saw his face.

"Y-You're John." Kanon said after seeing his appearance. Even though they didn't have that much meetings back to the headquarters but they could still hear rumors about him.

"You know me?" John asked as it was the first they meet in person even though he knew who she was.

Kanon then wiped away her tears before she stood up and bowed towards John.

"Thank you for saving me." Kanon said as she was really grateful of John saving her for the last seconds of her life.

John then just nodded before he looked around and saw someone he didn't expect to see.

"T-Tatsumi and the rest of my companions died." Kanon sadly said as her eyes started to get wet again after seeing that only the upper part of Tatsumi's body were left.

"Hmmm, let's get out of here first." John said after he heard several Aragamis coming towards them and just asked her later back to the building.

Upon hearing, Kanon looked at Tatsumi for the last time before following John as she knew that Tatsumi wouldn't be back no matter how long she stare.

Somewhere in the wasteland,

Four people could be seen fighting tiger-like Aragamis that blocking them.

"Lenka, Alisa retreat!" Sakuya said while making way for them to retreat back to the vehicle. Kota, on the other hand was also there for support as he was firing towards the Aragamis that were coming from their sides.

Hearing the order, Lenka and Alisa followed immediately as they were now starting to retreat.

"Hibari, we couldn't proceed and need to retreat first." Sakuya reported back to the headquarters after getting pushed back by the Aragamis.

'How did Varja's even come to this place.' Sakuya thought as she knew that this place was a place for only small and medium types.

"Sakuya, what about the rescue mission?" Lenka suddenly asked after they got back to the vehicle.

"Let's find a safe place first and wait for the headquarter's orders." Sakuya replied before starting the vehicle and leave the place immediately but some Vajras were still following them behind.

Back to the building,

Kanon were now to the place which John and the others were staying but she was feeling awkward because two people were staring at her.

"Kanon, I knew you're tired but can you tell me what happened on your side." John said as he wanted to know how such a thing happened as this was not part of the original story.

Hearing this, Kanon looked down as it was still fresh on her memory what happened that day before she then started telling John about their mission and what happened from the beginning until now.

Minutes of explaining, John listened to her and could only frowned as it was really strange.

"Did you see or hear something odd that time?" John asked again as he wanted to know every details happened on that day.

Kanon then think hard recalling if there was something strange happened before they were surrounded.

"I don't know if this was strange but we heard a loud roar somewhere before we got into a fight." Kanon replied as this was the only thing that she remembered that was strange at that time.

John then widened his eyes after hearing her reply and thought that maybe all of this happened because of him as he guess that it must because the Dyaus Pita that he fought three weeks ago.

"I'm sorry." John could only say this words towards her even though he was still not 100% sure which made Kanon surprised as she don't why John was apoligizing.

"Iroha give her some food to eat." John ordered as he knew that she must be really hungry after running and hinding for the whole night. He then looked outside again and saw that the rain wouldn't stop anytime soon and thought that they might probably stay in the building for the night.

Far East Branch Headquarters,

Tsubaki looked at the dot in the monitor and couldn't guess what was happening but all she knew is that only a single person survived this time.

"How's Sakuya's situation?" Tsubaki asked looking that the tracker on them were not moving on the monitor.

"They decided to rest first and probably stay for the night as she said that it would be dangerous to travel this time as the rain were pouring hard added that Vajras were roaming in the vicinity." Hibari reported and repeated what Sakuya told her.

"Did you already contacted Captain Amamiya?" Tsubaki asked again as she wanted to order him to support and also to know what was really happening on that place.

Hearing the question, Hibari then called someone again while Tsubaki looked back towards the monitor.

---Night---

Back to the building,

John and the others were already on the bed being Shio and Iroha in his arms while giving Kanon her personal bed.

The two were already asleep while John was still awake as he was feeling that Kanon couldn't sleep and shaking on her side.

John sighed as he gently moved Shio and Iroha as he doesn't want them to wake up before he got up from the bed and head towards the rooftop to see the situation.

Kanon on her bed saw John leaving the room and thought where he was going. She hesitated for a while before also standing up to follow him as she could not sleep and does not have something to do.

On the rooftop,

The rain already stopped and the sky were already cleared seeing how peaceful it was. John looked below and could see Aragamis roaming in the place either in groups or alone.

Moments later, someone came and stand just right beside him while also looking below.

"You couldn't sleep?" John asked even though he knew Kanon followed him here.

"Y-Yeah." Kanon replied as her hands were still shaking until now.

"Where's your God Arc anyway?" John asked after not seeing her God Arc even before.

"I leave it behind as I couldn't run with it and I'm also out of ammo." Kanon truthfully said as she thought that time that she need save herself first and look for it if she survives.

"Hmmm, let's find it tomorrow then." John said as he thought that it must just around the city and also he knew how important a God Arc is to a God Eater.

"We need to wait for the reinforcement first before heading there." Kanon replied with seriousness even though she wasn't sure if the headquarters received their message while also remembering that that place were full of Vajras.

John looked at her and knew what was she was worried for.1

"Don't worry about those things. We'll deal with them." John said as he also thought that it was now time for Iroha to face Large Type Aragamis.

"Vaj--" Kanon looked at Johm as she wanted to say something but stopped as she remembered that he was actually the person who killed the Vajra in the past back in the headquarters. Shen then just looked at him before looking back to the ground.

"I was informed that you left the headquarters, are you on your way back now?" Kanon suddenly changed the question to talked about non-depressing things.

"Ohh, I thought only a few knew about it." John was surprised to see that even Kanon knew that he left.

"I heard them from the rumors." Kanon replied as John were really popular back at the headquarters.

"Well, yeah as I'm already done with my business." John said and aside from that he also missed Tsubaki and the others.

The two then just talked for a while before heading back to the room to rest after John saw that Kanon calmed down a little.

---The next morning---

Somewhere in the wasteland,

John and the others were now on the place where Kanon's team fell.

Right now, they were in some tall building looking at the situation first while planning how to retrieve the God Arcs as several Vajras were roaming around and seem to be guarding them.

"There really a number of them." John said while looking that there were really several of them in the place.

"Stay here, I'll deal with them first. Iroha, Shio be prepared as I'll leave some behind for you to deal with." John said before jumping down to finished them already as they were all food for him to get stronger.

"Won't you even help him?" Kanon asked while looking at Shio and Iroha with their strange weapons as she knew that they were not God Arcs seeing their unique appearances.

"There's no need to." Iroha said while gripping Blue Rose Sword tightly after getting nervous of what John said.

On the ground,

John already started a rampage after coming down and already used almost all his skills aside from the Blue Rose Sword Skills as he skillfully kill them using Infinity.

"H-He---" Kanon who was on the building couldn't help but widened her eyes seeing how John easily killed the Vajras who she and her team couldn't deal with. She even doubt now if John was really a human after seeing him fighting like that.

Minutes of fighting, Vajras were falling down one by one until only three were left behind.

"Iroha, Shio come down!" John suddenly shouted as he left the three on purpose for them to deal with.

Upon hearing John's order, Shio and the others then jumped down and head towards him.

"I won't let you battle it alone. I want you you support each other to kill them." John said although he thought that they could take one each but he still wanted to tell them that it would be more effective to kill with together.

"Go." John said before Iroha and Shio started running towards the three Vajras.

After getting close, Iroha suddenly stopped while Shio continued running and already started firing towards the Vajras with her weapon in its Assault Gun form while Iroha gripped her sword tightly before sunking it on the ground.

"Enhance Aramament." Iroha used a skill which it immediately froze the ground which a thorny ice tendril were coming towards the Vajras trying to bind them.

"Bloom! Blue Rose." Iroha followed before several blue roses grew which made the Vajras to scream after feeling that it leaches their life.

But Iroha knew that it wasn't enough as John told her that Large Types were way more stronger than the others as aside from being much bigger, they also had thick skins.

After that, Iroha then started running to help Shio which they killed off the nearest first before dealing the others.

"Good teamwork." John said while looking at Shio and Iroha fighting against the rest of the Vajras after killing the first one.

Kanon, on the other hand was shocked to the core as she couldn't believed what was happening after seeing Iroha produced some ice out of her sword which was very magical while also looking at Shio fighting with the Vajras with her small body.

The fight didn't last long before Shio and Iroha killed the remaining Vajras which they immediately searched for the cores before giving it to John.

"How do you feel after fighting a Vajra?" John said while looking at Iroha who were smiling at him.

"I'm a little nervous but after some time I adjusted and thought that they were not that hard to deal with." Iroha replied what she feels right at the moment as she could not believe that she achieved this feat in just one month.

"It's good that you know but don't be too proud as the one that you killed was just the most common Large Type Aragami out there." John said the truth as there were really more powerful than them and the best example of it was the Dyaus Pita that they met.

Iroha, after hearing, then became serious immediately after remembering the Aragami that even John couldn't deal with in the past.

"Well, there's no need to be that serious. Killing a Vajra was still a feat to be proud of." John said before patting both of their heads before looking at the distance as they heard noises coming from somewhere.

They all looked towards it before seeing several Aragamis either Small, Medium, or Large types following a vehicle that was coming closer to them.

"I think we still had work to do. Iroha, Shio prepare yourselves." John said before rushing towards the swarm of Aragamis while smiling as the God Particles were coming for him themselves. Iroha and Shio then also prepared but they were just standing in place protecting Kanon for what is about to come.
