Trapped Within the Sanctuary

A figure suddenly swooped down, flying past both of them. There was a flash of light as the cage was sliced in half and the chains that tied the fairy were cut off as well. Xuan Yin looked with widened eyes as she watched the white figure grab the fairy and fly off. 

"Is that...Ming Yue?" 

There was utter shock on her face as Ming Yue flew up at the falling debris. Swinging her sword, she cut apart the stone and dirt, paving a path for her to escape. 

Seeing as her friend escaped, Xuan Yin also took the chance to run. However, the others weren't so pleased by the development. 

"You bitch! Get back here with that fairy!"

Yao Lu immediately gave chase, flying up after her. He waved his axe wildly, sending off several flying slashes. The clown makeup only made his furious face scarier, focusing on his downturned brows and clenched jaw. 

Out of everyone, he was the most enraged. 

The Phantom Mountain Group watched before looking at one another. 

"Run!"

That was the only thought they had on their minds before running for the exits. 

And the last of them, Bai Meng, merely looked up, her eyes seem to flash as the gears in her mind moved. With the falling debris, she clicked her tongue before turning to leave, going through a hidden passageway. 

"Screw it, he's already made such a mess. I don't know who that other person is but... it doesn't matter who they are. The formations are finished, I just have to activate them and wait. Nothing else matters if I succeed and I will succeed", she muttered to herself. 

There wasn't even a shred of worry on her face, just anticipation and determination. 

How long had she been planning this? How long had she waited for things to come to fruition?

Bai Meng had endured enough, she wanted more, she always wanted more. 

And whilst she vanished into the hidden pathways, the chase was still on between Ming Yue and Yao Lu as the pair burst out of the ground. The young cultivator focused more on the fairy, making sure that it was fine. 

"Are you okay?" she asked. 

The fairy still trembled in fear before getting a better look at her face. Suddenly, its large eyes began to twinkle as it recognized her. Rather than cowering in fear, it seemed all too happy knowing that she had rescued it. 

Ming Yue couldn't help but laugh and smile at the fairy, hugging it closely with one arm. 

"Alright, just stay close to me."

Telling it this, she suddenly spun around to face Yao Lu, diving back towards him. It was an action that he welcomed openly, revealing an evil grin.

"Hah! Don't think that you can escape me!" he yelled out before winding his axe back behind his head. 

A translucent white aura seeped from his body as he used a technique. 

"Jester's Play!"

Swinging his axe, a cackling sound echoed as dozens of axe slashes flew out. They came from all kinds of directions, some were slow, some were quick. It would be hard to deduce where and when they would reach her. 

But for Ming Yue, something like this was nothing but child's play. 

"Most of them are fake, as for the real ones... they aren't that difficult to deal with. This must be the Dao of Illusions combined with the Axe Dao, If I wasn't at the Sky Realm, this would've been more troublesome", she thought. 

However, it didn't seem like Yao Lu was done just yet. 

"Laughter of Madness! Gleeful Dance! The Fool's Crown!"

Fully displaying his power, he used several of his techniques in succession before the first one even flew out. The young woman's surroundings suddenly shimmered as there were clones of Yao Lu surrounding her! Each of them was cackling wildly, echoing and compounding into wild laughter!

And finally, she felt a tingle in her head. 

It was supposed to be head-splitting pain but for her, someone who had the power of Mental Force, something like this was nothing. 

"Hmph, since you like to play this way, I'm sure you'd love to experience the same thing". she thought. 

Brandishing her sword, her power coursed into it as the power of her mind seeped in as well. 

"Prevailing Wind Dance." 

As she swung her sword, she deftly avoided the axe slashes, practically dancing in the sky. But the true effect came when a powerful wind blew the clones away and the laughter suddenly stopped. The tingle in her head was gone too. 

But she didn't dispel it, rather, she returned it. 

"Urgh, aghhhh, make it stop, make it stop!" 

On the other side, Yao Lu clutched his head and cried out. Turning and twisting in agony, he had to endure what he tried to do to her. The laughter, the clone, and the worst headache one could ever have, his mind was being broken with each second. 

Ming Yue just watched from a distance, seeing his pain but feeling nothing. 

"How brutal, is this what his victims felt?" she thought to herself. 

The more she watched, the colder her eyes became. 

"Disgusting." 

She flew forward, stabbing him in the chest before pulling up, slicing him in half. His clown face just split into two as he couldn't utter another sound. He just fell down, dropping into the ruined auction. 

Looking down she noticed that there were eyes on her, after all, they had been fighting in the air and she had just killed one of the Fourteen Evils. There was no way they wouldn't notice her. 

"Hmm, I should go."

Her body immediately vanished as she quietly landed in an empty alley, far from the commotion. The little fairy mewed while nuzzling up before she loosened her hold. 

"Alright little one, are you okay? Do you think that you can return safely?" she asked it. 

The fairy flew out and fluttered around, enjoying its freedom before looking back at her. It yipped happily as if to say yes before flying off, turning into bits of light. As she watched it go, someone called out to her. 

"Ming Yue? Is that really you?" 

She froze for a moment before turning to face Xuan Yin. Although a year had passed, not much had changed about her. She still carried a black bow and wore tight-fitting clothes. The scar on her lip and cheek had faded even more. 

The expression on her face had some fear and confusion. 

"You're... you're not dead?" she asked.

Ming Yue nodded. 

"No, I'm not."

"But... you... I mean there was no trace of your body but... there was no trace of anything. How did you survive?!" Xuan Yin asked. 

As the young cultivator was about to say something, Redmist Sanctuary began to tremble as the ground started to glow. Suddenly a barrier formed, all around it, encasing the city in a blue sphere. 

"What's happening? Why is there a barrier around us?!"

The archer looked around just as Ming Yue looked up, narrowing her eyes at this. 

"Something isn't right", she muttered. 

She turned to look at Xuan Yin who dropped to her knees, trying her best not to faint. 2

"Xuan Yin! Are you okay? What's happened to you?!"

Kneeling down, she looked at the archer, trying to help her stand up. 

"I... I think something is draining me of my energy but you... how are you fine?" 

Ming Yue took a moment to sense her surroundings and felt nothing. 

"This... why am I unaffected?" 

But now wasn't the time to find out why, she had to figure a way out of this situation. 

"Because of the barrier, nothing can come in but we cannot leave either, it's a trap. But with this barrier, it must be a part of Bai Meng's plan to unify the branches of the sanctuary. Does this... does she mean to sacrifice everyone here to gain more power?!"
