It was natural for Cane to be more sensitive to her scent, since she was his mate and he had marked her. After bearing his mark, the mate bond between them started to grow as well.

Thus, when everyone thought Iris was roaming around the forest and started to look outside of the cave, because the forest was so vast and they had to cover as much ground as they could to find her, the alpha stood motionless in his spot as he stared at the cave.

Cane walked toward the cave and started to scrutinize everything around here.

He approached the spot she was sleeping last night at and found the cloak that she used to sleep in discarded there. Her scent was the strongest here, and based on this alone, he concluded that instead of going out, she went deeper into the cave.

Cane narrowed his eyes, as he followed her soft and delicate scent deeper into the cave.

It was not so hard to find her, but the intricate path that he took to reach her made Cane furrow his brows. Why did Iris lose her way here in the first place? Why would she roam around when everyone was sleeping?

It didn't take long for him to find the woman and as he drew closer, he could hear her talking. Who was she talking to?

Cane's brows knitted when her voice became clearer. There was someone with her!

"This is not the path either…" Iris grumbled. "We need to go back soon, or else they will leave me in this cave." She was on the verge of tears, her legs started aching because she roamed around this place for god knows how long.

She was afraid that they would leave her behind once they found out that she was not in the cave, not even bothering to look for her.

Redmond would probably look for her, but what about the others? Would he be able to manage to find her here when it was already so hard for her to remember the path she had taken earlier?

"That's why you shouldn't have run away." The little lizard perched on her head, hiding in her curls, it was hard to see it if you didn't take a closer look, since her auburn, curly hair and the color of the lizard was almost the same. "Now we are lost…"

On the other hand, Cane had been following her for about five minutes now and he couldn't see anyone here. Was she talking to herself? He didn't want to believe that she had an imaginary friend, but if that was not the case, it must be because there was something wrong with her head.

In the end, when Cane finally made sure there was no one else except for the two of them there, he tapped her shoulder to get her attention as he usually did.

Iris still didn't realize that she was being followed. She was being so ignorant of her surroundings and how could she not be able to sense if there was someone else close to her when all of the shifters could do it so easily?

Was it because she was a runt, thus all the privileges of being a shifter were withdrawn as well?

"Argh!" Iris let out a shrill scream when she felt someone tap on her shoulder out of shock, because she had been busy mulling over her own predicament.

However, once she saw it was Cane, who was now staring at her with a frown, she calmed down as relief flooded her entire being.

But then, right at that time, her little friend decided to come out of its hiding place as it glided down her long hair to her shoulder before trying to attack Cane.

Iris was shocked to see that this little fella could breathe fire, though it was not enough to cause injury, of course, this was something that none of them had anticipated.

Cane took a step back, but the distance that this little lizard's fire could reach was too short to burn him, thus in one swift move, he grabbed the little thing and was about to squeeze it to death in his palm.

However, Iris cried in alarm when she saw the killing intent flashing in his dark eyes, and immediately grabbed his hand.

"No! No! No!" Iris shook her head profusely, which left Cane puzzled and it was enough to make him stop what he was about to do, yet he didn't let go of this creature. "This is the fire magic stone!" Iris blurted out, because she didn't know how else she could explain this.

"Fire magic stone?"

Iris nodded, she was still holding his hand, while the little lizard was struggling to free itself from his grip. It tried to shoot fire at Cane again, but it couldn't reach him at all, while he could feel the heat from the creature, it was not enough to do harm on him.

"Magic stone is an egg?" Cane found it hard to believe it after he heard what Iris had said, he looked at her in disbelief.

"Please, let it go, the lizard is harmless."

"So, this is a lizard?"

Iris looked doubtful when she answered him. "I don't know… but, it looks like one."

Cane looked at the little fella in his grip that kept trying to burn him. So much for a harmless creature.

"Alpha, the lizard only attacked because it thought that you would harm me."0

"You can talk with this thing?" Cane's confusion only grew more and more unexplainable.

"It is not that I can communicate with this lizard…" Iris dragged on her words, as if she was not sure how to explain this. "This is almost like how I can find those magic stones, I just feel it and know it."

Cane was silent, he looked at the lizard that kept trying to wriggle its little body out of his grip, while breathing fire at him, but then he released the little creature.

He saw it shooting fire at his palm one last time before it jumped onto Iris' shoulder and hid back in her auburn hair, burying itself in her curls.
