HE IS AN ANGEL COMPARED TO THE KING
When the sun went down, it was finally their time to go to the auction to bid on the entry of the black market.
Iris went with them as well, leaving Avid and Trion behind, because the two of them couldn't go to the black market even if they really got the entry. One entry could only accommodate five people and leaving Iris alone would be even riskier, since the alpha of the pack and a few people around him knew her face.
Especially after her little trip with Redmond and Ethan without permission from Cane. The alpha didn't raise his voice, nor did he say anything, but the look on his face was enough to tell him how angry he was at the gamma.
Except for Redmond, this was the first time for the four of them to be in the auction market, thus, they listened to what he said and entered a luxury brothel.
Everyone was wearing masks in this place to conceal their identity, probably only a few people who were very close and knew each other well could recognize one another, but Cane and the other three were new here.
This place was so luxurious with high ceilings and crystal chandeliers hanging high above their heads. All the people were so lively here. The men would grin ear to ear and salivate over women with eyes filled with lust, while the women walked half naked around the area, as they allowed those men to touch their bodies.
Iris was shocked to see one such vulgar scene when a man grabbed a woman and stripped her naked in the middle of the hall and started fucking her, while the others cheered at the sight. No one found that weird, disturbing or intrusive at all. It seemed to be an everyday activity in this place.
Iris shuddered. These people let their animal instinct run wild! Somehow, she felt so ashamed when lewd moans filled the air along with licentious laughter. She lowered her head, until it was only her feet that she could see, while Cane walked on her right side with Redmond leading this small party, Ethan was on her left with Will following behind them.
However, none of them seemed disturbed by this scene. They looked past that as if that was something normal.
And when women came in their direction and started to flirt with them, Redmond sighed in regret, as he couldn't afford them, because he was on a mission and couldn't afford the delay, but one glance from Cane was enough to send those women away.
He was wearing a black mask, it was only his black eyes and his lips that could be seen, but his whole body emitted a cold aura, which made those women reluctant to approach him and the people with him.
The auction room was at the back of the brothel, where a woman in a long red dress that showed off her shoulders was waiting for them. She was wearing a mask that matched the color of her dress and smiled at Redmond, as she spoke in another language to him.
Iris was surprised to know that they used that language here and even more to know that Redmond could speak that as well.
It didn't take long before the woman let them enter the arena and gave Redmond a number to bid, which he gave to Cane.
They were sitting in the third tier, where they could see everything from above here. They were led into a closed cubicle with five seats, so that they couldn't know the people next to them, since this event was highly confidential.
"There are five items that will be auctioned today, the fourth one being the entry to the black market." Redmond informed them.
Iris knew about it because she read his conversation with the woman earlier. Cane said nothing and the rest of them looked a little bit agitated, waiting for this auction to start.
"Why have you always bought the rations from the black market?" Iris asked Redmond, who was standing next to her, while Cane and the others sat on the chairs. They came here to buy the entry, thus they didn't care about the other items.
Meanwhile, below them, the auction for the first item was already in progress.
"You don't know?" Redmond frowned. "From what I heard, you are the one who gave that guy this idea to go to the black market." He nodded in Cane's direction, which made Iris hiss.
Can't he stop for a second trying to provoke him? He could die for his stupid actions if Cane finally decided to make a move on him.
"I don't know, I just knew about that because Mason always bragged about it."
"It is because it's tax free."
The tax for the rations could be crazily high, therefore most of the packs would go to the black market to buy food grains in large quantities, while the commoners could only buy crops paying ridiculous amounts of tax, because most of the alphas would only feed the people of higher ranks, while the commoners would be left to fend for themselves.
"If you think your father is cruel and despotic, he is an angel compared to the king." Redmond chortled bitterly. He had followed alpha Gerald long enough to say this. His comment came as a surprise for Iris.
She didn't think there would be someone more despicable than her father. She really needed to broaden her horizons.
And this time, Redmond talked in a low voice, thus the other three couldn't hear him among the clamor of the auction.
"He is delusional to think that he can change how things work in this realm." Redmond clicked his tongue and scoffed.
On the other hand, Iris glanced at Cane, who was sitting calmly on his seat, he looked unperturbed with his surroundings, seemingly deep in his own thoughts.
She really wanted to know what he was thinking about at this moment and what things that he wanted to change.
Right at that moment, Cane shifted his attention and their eyes met.2
Iris thought he would avert his gaze, but he didn't.
