It was too late for Lou to escape the attack, thus the only thing in his mind was to protect this red hair behind him. He turned around and hugged her, shielding her, as he took the brunt from the impact, he had his back against the monster. 1

He cursed in his heart that if he managed to come out of this mess alive, he would kill Sabian!

However, Iris shuffled her body and poked her head from his shoulder and watched the monster right in the eyes, as she cried out loud. "NO! STOP!"

She did that out of instinct, she could feel her heart lurched to her stomach when the monster swung its huge arm toward them, but then stopped only a few inches away from them. He stopped the attack mid air and blinked its small red eyes innocently.

Feeling something was not right, Lou turned his head to see the monster put down its arm and stood there docilely, as if the giant creature wouldn't attack them anymore and this left both of them speechless.

"How can you do that?" Lou asked, his mind whirled rapidly, as he stared at Iris, who was dumbfounded as well.

"I don't know…" Iris shook her head, but she felt this sensation and scene was very familiar. It happened once in the past when the monster attacked the mine and she tried to protect Ania.

The monster, at that time, stopped when she said so, but she thought it was only a fortunate coincidence and didn't think much about it, after all, it happened only for a few second.

"Are you a magic user or something?" Lou furrowed his brows, he observed the girl, but he was pretty sure that she was not a magic user, his informant told him that. She was a runt, from what he knew. It seemed, he had to dig deeper into this girl's background.

On the other hand, Iris didn't read his question, as her eyes fixed on the monster before them. She was flabbergasted that the monster listened to her word.

However, a moment later, the monster let out an agony roar, as something pierced through its heart. It penetrated from its back and appeared on its chest, leaving a huge hole and black blood spurted out from the fatal wound.

A black beast pierced through the monster's body and landed right next to Iris and Lou, its golden eyes fixed on the merchant, as its whole being suffused with killing intent. The black beast let out a dangerous, low growl, as if telling him to back off.

The aura that this best let out was so suffocating, which made Lou took a step back out of instinct, as he let Iris go from his embrace.

The alpha was not happy to see his mate was in danger, but even more so when he saw someone else hugged her.

Behind him, the gigantic monster dropped dead to the ground, sending snow fluttered in the air and the ground shook violently, in which made Iris lost her balance.

Meanwhile a dozen of royal warriors followed after the black beast, taking care the troll within a few seconds.

Only after the danger had passed, Cane shifted back into his human form and approached Iris, who was sitting on the ground, which covered with snow.

He didn't say anything, but his eyes scrutinized her body silently. The blood on her white cloak was not her blood, but the monster's blood, which sprayed on her when Cane killed the monster.

He took her hand, but aside from a few grazes on her palm, she was fine, though a little bit scared. "Thank you for protecting her," Cane said to Lou, as he turned around and faced the merchant.

Lou finally regained his composure and flashed him a beautiful smile. "You owed me, alpha Cane."

Cane's eyes turned slightly darker when he heard that, but he didn't show any reaction when he replied. "And how can I repay that?"

Lou tapped his chin, seemingly thinking of a way to answer that, but Cane didn't have enough patient to wait for him and his pretense.

"Meet me when you have thought about the answer." And after saying that, he turned around with Iris closed to him, he put his arm around her shoulder and left the scene, while the merchant was dumbstruck by how callous the alpha was.

"Wow… I just saved his mate and he treated me so coldly," he muttered to himself, but his eyes filled with amusement when he saw Iris turned her head and looked at him. He raised his hand and waved at her energetically, in which Cane covered her eyes and turned her head again, so she could see where she walked. "She is so cute." Lou grinned.

The merchant stayed there until the carcasses of the monsters had been cleaned up.

"Sir, I will show you the way back to the palace," one of the royal warriors said, he approached him after everything had been cleared.

However, Lou shook his head. "There is no need, but can you send me a carriage to fetch me here? I am too tired to walk," he said, as he sat down on the rock.

"Will do," the warrior replied and ordered two of his men to stay behind with Lou.

"No, all of you can go," Lou rejected.

"But, it will be dangerous for you to stay here by all yourself."

Lou waved his hand, indicating he didn't want to argue about it, which made the warrior relented and then left him alone.

Only when everyone had gone, someone appeared from dense trees. His scent was covered by magic, thus no one had noticed he was there.

"Master," the old man greeted Lou, as he knelt in front of him.

Lou jumped from the rock he was sitting and then approached him, but when he was close enough, he raised his leg and kicked him. "Imbecile!"

The old man was sent a few meters away and hit the tree.
