THIS MUST BE FATE
This could be said as the first fight that she had with Cane. Iris felt so hurt and was afraid. She usually did not act like this, but the question and her confusion had been sitting in her heart heavily. She only wanted a little bit clarity, was that too much?1
Iris kept turning back to see whether Cane would follow her, but every time she would be disappointed, because no one behind her, except the guards that patrolled around this area. They paid no mind to her.
She lowered her head and felt this feeling weighed her down.
He didn't even care she went out alone after the monster attack. He didn't worry at all about her. So, was this the answer that she needed? She felt unsatisfied, but the more she felt like this, the more she felt down and guilty.
Why would she throw a temper tantrum like this? What did she expect from him? Cane didn't change, he was always like that, it was Iris, who was too carried away with her feelings.
Iris was upset with herself and blamed the mate bond for the feeling of attachment toward Cane and then the embarrassment came.
Why did she think Cane would care? It was not even a question in the first place. She should have known her position. It was not like he treated her nicely without hidden agenda, every move that he made, it was a calculative one.
He didn't take a mistress again because it would be a question if none of them was pregnant and since Iris had known his secret a little bit too much, thus it would be safe to keep only her by his side, not out of consideration for her.
If Cane could take the Blue Moon pack without her involvement, he would have gotten rid of Iris by now and paid no mind about her.
And there were more a few little things that proved that Cane did something in a very calculating way. There was no reason for Cane to keep her by his side, if she didn't bring those benefits.
"You should know that!" Iris scolded herself. She sat down on a long bench under the oak tree and stomped her feet on the ground, upset to herself. "How can I return now? How can I face him?" she murmured to herself.
Should she apologize?
Iris didn't mind to do it, but when she thought what she had said to Cane, she didn't think she would have a courage to talk with him and open the conversation first.
"What now?" Iris felt like crying. She brought this displeasure and embarrassment upon herself. She felt so stifled.
She had let him know her bottle up feelings, but she didn't feel relieved at all, it could be said that she felt even worse.
"What are you doing here?"
Iris startled, not because she heard the question, but because she saw his feet when she stared at the ground, while she scolded herself for being so stupid and naïve. She lifted her head and found Lou was staring at her in confusion, but then his lips tugged into a wide grin. The sight didn't make her happy at all.
"This must be fate for us to meet again!" Lou clapped his hand happily. He looked a little bit pale, but Iris didn't pay close attention to such subtle detail. "From the black market all the way to this palace, even though we are miles apart, but our fate has tangled together!"
Lou didn't know how his nonsense was true for the years to come.
"The alpha said you are sick, I am also sick." He pointed himself, as if this similarity was something that he could brag about. "See? We are fated to be together!"
Without waiting for Iris's respond, he invited himself to sit down on the bench next to Iris and continued to chat with her, though she was not really receptive.
"Tell me, why are you out here in the middle of the night?" He leaned his body, as he lowered his voice, just like someone, who was ready for a gossip. "Where is your mate? Don't tell me that you have a secret meeting with someone here, am I interrupting you?"
Iris glared at him. This man was insufferable!
Cane had said that she shouldn't meet with Lou and talk to him, but then if she avoided him, unless she returned to her chamber and face Cane, this merchant would plaster her everywhere. He couldn't care less about the norm.
"Don't talk nonsense!" Iris hissed. She was already in a bad mood.
"Ah! You are so feisty!" Lou didn't even take offense when Iris snapped at him. He took everything like a joke. "Oh, right! I invited your mate to discuss how I want you to repay me for saving your life," he said without being embarrassed at all to be a profiter. "Why don't you come to have an evening tea? I would love to have you, at least, you are not as scary as that man. His callousness makes my eyes hurt."
Okay. That was it. Iris didn't want to stay and hear his rambles. It seemed facing Cane now was not a bad idea, after all, she couldn't avoid him forever. It would be better sooner than later.
Without saying anything, Iris stood up and was about to leave when Lou grabbed her hand to pull her back, so she would sit on the bench again.
"Hey, where are you going? You have not yet answered my question, how can you find the magic stone, hm?"
Iris wriggled her hand, but he held her firmly. "Let go of my hand!" She didn't want to attract anyone attention, but if there was someone saw both of them alone in the middle of the night, they could get the wrong impression.
Iris thought to bite his hand if he didn't let go, but before she could do that, Lou freed her hand and stood up, he backed away a few steps so fast.
