SQUABLING
"We will go for a ride?" Iris blinked her eyes, if they were going to ride, it meant they would go somewhere far. "Where are we going?" She thought Cane asked her to have lunch in the dining hall. 2
"To the city," Cane said lightly. "You have not seen it."
This was the first time for Iris to be in the capital city and when they went out before, it was not for sightseeing.
"Oh, okay." Iris was thrilled that Cane was actually taking her with him to the city.
She didn't mind if he did this because he was concern with the dark wisp that would make an appearance all of sudden, thus he would take her almost everywhere, or even when he took her out because he wanted to see directly the chaos in the city. She didn't mind it at all.
The fact that Cane included her and involved her in his plan made her felt she was part of something. This sense of belonging made her heart warm.
It didn't take Iris for long to change her dress into a simple one that suit for a ride.
"Can you ride by yourself?" Cane took her hand, as they walked out of the bedroom. He knew Redmond taught her how to ride, but he was not sure the progress of it, since he had never seen her on the horseback before.
"I think I can," Iris replied, still doubtful. She remembered how frustrated Redmond was and he was barely satisfied in the last time he taught her before they went to the capital city. But then, Redmond was a perfectionist, it was hard to meet with his expectation.
Cane said nothing, as he led the way to the front yard, where four horses had waited for them. Aside for them, Redmond and Ethan would come as well and right now, the two of them were bickering again about something insignificant.
Iris wondered if there would be time when they started to claw at each other faces.
"I told you, she can't ride the horse on her own!" Redmond barked.
"I am not surprised to hear that, due to your poor way of teaching, she still can't ride a horse by herself!" Ethan bit back. He looked more like himself right now, though his face was a little bit pale and he was way skinnier than the last time they saw him before the order from the king to lock him up.
However, seeing him bickering with Redmond, somehow, gave a sense of relief for Iris. It was way better than his hollow expression when she saw him in the main hall.
"Say it again! I will cut your head off!" Redmond growled.
"What? You should be ashamed of yourself!" Ethan didn't back down.
"Enough!" Cane snapped at the two of them and they stopped bickering, but they kept throwing a dagger look at each other.
After making sure the two werewolves wouldn't kill each other off and backed down, Cane shifted his attention toward Iris beside him.
"Go on," Cane said, as he let go of her hand and let her to climb the horse by herself.
"The horse is too big for her," Redmond chipped in.
He was right. The horse was too big for Iris, because the horse that she used to learn was a dainty horse, not a warhorse like this one, which look so intimidating.
Yet, stubbornly, Iris tried to climb it clumsily. It was hard and Cane could see how she struggled.
"I told you, she can't ride this horse," Redmond scoffed. "She is too fragile to this kind of horse." And there, he ran his mouth recklessly again, thankfully, Iris didn't know what he said and Cane didn't want to waste his breath with him.
In the end, Cane helped her to sit down comfortably on the horseback. She blanched because it was a little bit scary to ride this horse, as she held the rein so tightly.
"Th- thank you." Iris stumbled with her words a little and when she thought Cane would take the other horse, he actually jumped easily and sat down behind her.
And like what had happened a few times before, he trapped her small body between his arms, as her back leaned against his sturdy chest.
The alpha could see that his mate wouldn't be able to handle this warhorse. She would only end up hurting herself if she insisted to ride alone.
"See? I told you, she is too delicate for this kind of horse!" Redmond said to Ethan smugly. No matter what the problem, he would feel better if he could one up this gamma.
Ethan was seething. He was not happy. "I will teach her how to ride and you will see, under my tutelage, not even a horse, she will be able to ride a dragon!"
That was ridiculous, even Ethan felt that sounded hilarious, but he kept a straight face when Redmond laughed his ass off. The gamma climbed his horse and caught up with his alpha, who had left them behind, didn't even want to listen to their squabbling.
The sky was so bright and the city was bustling, people were doing their activities, but even though it looked normal, Iris could sense the tension in the air, especially with those eyes that looked at them curiously.
They didn't even hide their interest about why the alpha and the luna of the Howling Wolf pack would be in the city without their retainers and only two warriors by their side.
Their curious gaze specifically directed at Iris. This was the first time for them to see Gerald's daughter. The runt. What they heard was true. She was beautiful with peculiar hair and eyes, but she looked so delicate and fragile, especially when Cane was sitting right behind her on the warhorse back, as comparison.
Cane rode the horse slowly, as they reached a restaurant that was not too crowded, but there was a carriage right in front of it with the royal symbol.
"We will eat with prince Kellan," Cane said.
