The road ahead of them wouldn't be smooth sailing and if Iris chose to be by his side, he didn't want to tone down his action in her behalf. This was something that he would do underhandedly, this was something that he couldn't avoid when he made a plot and schemed against the royal family. 0

Just like what Haco had said; you would eventually be a monster when you hunted one.

This was only one example, but ahead of them, there would be more something like this that would happen, a moment where you were demanded to shed all of your moral and focus on what you wanted to achieve.

And after knowing that, would Iris still choose to stay by his side?

Iris had said she wanted to stand by him and helped him, but this was the kind of help that Cane needed and he was not sure she could handle it.

Cane really wanted to work on their relationship, but he was having a hard time to differentiate Iris from one of his chess pieces on his chess board. She was too valuable and useful. It was easy to manipulate Iris and Cane was sure, he could get whatever he wanted from her.

Especially after he saw how eager she was to help him. She completely put her guard down around him and didn't take any precaution.

In one hand, Cane truly appreciated how Iris put her absolute trust on him, but on the other hand, it wouldn't do her any good, since it would make it easy for people to use her, once they knew how to get a hold of her, including him.

At that time when Iris said she wanted to be with him, Cane thought she only said that because she didn't get the full picture of what he was going to do and now when she had witnessed it with her own eyes, he gave her the chance and reason to back off.

"Will you still stay by my side?" Cane asked her. He took a closer step toward her and this time, Iris didn't back away. She stared at the alpha, her eyes were so clear, as myriad thoughts ran in her mind.

"Is this something that unavoidable?" Iris whispered the question, she found herself lost all of her strength, somehow, she felt so exhausted, her mind and body couldn't take the tension. This was reaction of her shock.

"Yes."

His opponent would scheme in such a way, they wouldn't blink their eyes when they killed the people they deemed useless and needed to get rid off, and Cane couldn't fight such battle with courtesy.

"Will you hurt me?"

Cane took a deep breath, he could see fear in her blue eyes. "Probably." He then added. "I am not someone to be safe with."

"Will you intentionally hurt me?" Iris emphasized this.

"No." He had no desire to hurt her, but in this battle, everyone would tend to get hurt. He didn't want to sugarcoat his words and wanted her to fully understand what kind of choice she needed to choose and the consequences of her decision.

This was a dangerous road, their path wouldn't be filled with rose petals and laughter, instead, it would be blood and despair.

If Iris couldn't handle this, she wouldn't be able to handle what would come after. It would be better she knew and involved less.

"Will you kill and hurt someone if they are truly innocent?"

"No one is truly innocent."

"Children."

It was common thing to hurt and kill children. She heard about it, she knew how her own father had hurt the children in his own pack and the children of the Howling Wolf pack. She heard stories about horrendous things her father had done to them. Stories that she didn't want to recall.

They were defenseless and it was easy for you to take advantage of their innocent.

Iris wanted to know whether or not Cane would turn into someone like her father and also his moral compass. How low he would go in order to achieve what he wanted.

"No." Cane looked at her deep into her eyes. "If you agree, I will meet you in the orphanage, but if you don't, I will understand."

And after saying that, Cane turned around and left her alone inside the room, leaving her with her own thoughts.

Cane always made it clear from the beginning what he wanted and what he needed. He gave her the choice to back away, but then, she wouldn't know a thing about him.

Yet, if she agreed to be by his side, would she be able to handle what would come?

Today, Cane killed prince Vemion and cursed princess Osana, who would be next?

Cane sent her back to the palace after their conversation, there were a lot of unresolved things between them and now Iris realized, she didn't take one step toward him at all, because right now, she felt like their relationship was having a regress.

The day of Cane and prince Kellan to visit the orphanage was a week from now, because of the problem with the lycan and the two of them were busy to calm people down, as they both made appearance in front of the public.

People had a heart for prince Kellan and they actually listened to him, thus it made it easier for Cane to handle the crowd.

More so, the body of prince Vemion had not been found and this created an uproar in the court, as Sir Lori, Laluna and Lady Ayla demanded the king to show more effort or else, Red Claw pack would take things in their hand.

It was a threat and the king had been furious with that blatant disrespect.

On the fourth day, warriors from the Red Claw pack arrived in the palace, they went straight to meet with the king.

At the same time, Iris was having a tea with Laluna, as she cried to her about her grievances.
