Because Iris didn't show up, Cane told Kellan it was because she was sick, since the prince expected her to come with them when they went to the orphanage, as he wanted Iris to be part of it. Her role would benefit Cane and herself in public's eyes. 2

Kellan was trying to help the alpha, so the people could warm up with him as well. At least, that was how he wanted himself to be perceived from outside perspective.

However, when the prince saw how Cane kept staring at the distance, as if he was waiting for someone, he couldn't help and tease him. "You already missed her? The mate bond between the two of you must be so strong."

Cane ignored that comment, as he went into the carriage and sat down calmly, waiting for the prince, because they shared the same carriage. It would show to the people that the two of them were close and Cane was on a good term with the prince.

During their ride, prince Kellan explained a few things about the capital city and answered all Cane's questions about this place and the people. He seemed very genuine to let Cane learned about a lot of things.

And if it was not because of Iris's strange behavior when she was around the prince, Cane would have put his guard down. He could see the quality and compassionate leadership in Kellan, no wondered his father and the alpha of the Celestial Moon pack were his strong supporter back in the day he was the crown prince.

"I hope to get along well with your mate," Kellan said out of the blue, after he explained about what the main livelihood for the citizen. "We have a pretty good relationship when she was still young, unfortunately, she forgot about that."

Kellan shifted his attention from the road and looked at Cane, trying to figure out what the alpha was thinking when he heard that, but it was hard to read what was in his mind, thus Kellan continued.

"I thought of her like my own little sister, but I guess she doesn't think the same way. She must be upset because I didn't stand up for her when Masson bullied her, so she must be thinking it's a bad idea to have another brother figure."

In a way, it made sense, as Kellan wanted to emphasize the point Iris forgot about him because he reminded her of Masson. Both of them knew how bad Masson had treated her.

Kellan used to visit the Blue Moon pack and would always be accompanied by Masson.

"She doesn't hold a grudge," Cane replied simply, he leaned his back and reciprocated Kellan's gaze, yet those eyes showed no malicious intention when he talked about Iris. "And yes, I think it's a bad idea for her to have another brother figure."

In another word, Cane wanted the prince to give up to entertain himself with the idea of having a brother- sister relationship with his mate. That sounded absurd and unsettling.

Thankfully, Kellan could read the room quite fast, as he only smiled and dropped the topic. He was confirmed about his suspicion; Iris had completely forgot and even if she did remember, Cane was still clueless.

Yet, the prince didn't put his guard down, after all, it was Cane. The alpha had won against the crown prince and got his gamma out of the death sentence unscathed, he even got a hold of the golden stamp.

Someone like him would be better to be kept close. He was too dangerous to be out of his sight.

However, prince Kellan was not the only person, who didn't drop their guard and had similar thought. Kept your friends close, but kept your enemies even closer.

On the surface, they got along well, but it didn't mean, they would completely trust each other to give their backs. It was still long way to go and probably, something that would never happen in this lifetime.

The rest of their trip to the orphanage, Kellan filled Cane with a lot of information, in which might help him to accomplish the task from the king, because ever since the news about the fourth prince was being kidnapped and the lycan appeared in the palace, people begun to panic and waves of anxiety and tension rippled in the cold air of winter.

"Iris, I know you are there," Ethan said, after he finished talking with one of his warriors. He approached the hidden spot, where Iris had been hiding. He didn't know why she sneaked around this area alone, but her attempt to hide herself was really ridiculous, since all of them could smell her scent from far away. They were the best warriors Howling Wolf pack had after all.

Ethan approached Iris and tapped her shoulder, which made her jolted in surprise. She looked at the gamma in horror, as if Ethan had turned into a lycan or something.

"What are you doing here?" Ethan asked.

Iris came to the warrior quarter after she sneakily found out where Ethan was from Hanna, but the maid didn't have any idea her missy would come here, or else, she would come with her too.

"I just happened to be passing by here." Iris blinked her eyes, as she pulled her long curls nervously, obviously she was lying.

"You are with Redmond too much, so his bad trait has rubbed on you," Ethan sighed, as he shook his head and Iris immediately realized he caught her lie. "You have been here for an hour."

"How do you know?" Iris was surprised again for the gamma to be able to tell.

Yet, Ethan simply tapped his nose, indicating he had smelled her scent for long, which made Iris's face turned so red.

"If you are looking for the alpha, he is not here, he is with prince Kellan." Ethan frowned and tilted his head. "I thought you know about it. Didn't he tell you? And why you are not with him?"
