SORROW
There were around eighty children in this orphanage, the number increased because of the last attack of the monster in the new year party, while some of them were taken care by their family, some of them didn't have any family around the capital city, as they came from different continent, following their parents to trade here. 0
Because of the large number and the rooms in the orphanage was no longer enough to accommodate them all, prince Kellan built another building right next to the first one, which the construction would be finished around four to six months from now.
The citizen cheered for the prince's generosity and the action of kindness he showed to people, captured their heart and somehow ceased down the tension in the capital, as the impact of it, they saw Cane in a good light too, since he had been seen with the prince lately, especially when he visited the orphanage and donated for building construction and new blanket for them.
Those children were very happy to receive new blanket for them to sleep, especially when this blanket was very soft and was in good quality.
Among those children, which range between one year old to fourteen years old, there were two babies that were still breastfeeding.
"This building is the first project that I made when I was crown as the crown prince," Kellan said, reminiscing the past, as he stared at the building. "Father didn't agree with my decision, as they didn't see the need for those children to be the burden for the kingdom, but I have different opinion. Probably, since that time, father is no longer like me." Kellan grinned at Cane.
On the other hand, Cane dismissed the warrior, who always pushed Kellan's wheelchair, because this time, the alpha did it, as they stroll around this area, watching a few children approached them with big smile on their faces.
Most of them was already familiar with the prince, as they greeted him with their beautiful smile and some of them looked at Cane with curiosity, while the other looked a little bit scared because Cane was not full of smile, neither he made a small talk with them, unlike the prince. More so, Cane's scar was a little bit scary for them.
They walked for a little while, but then two children around the age of eight and ten came to prince Kellan, asking him to show them how to play some instrumental and the other children nearby chimed in.
"Do you want to come?" prince Kellan asked, as he carried a little girl around the age of seven, who was climbing on him innocently, onto his laps. He kissed her cheek and she giggled.
"You can go ahead, I will walk around." Cane declined the offer and then watched how those children followed Kellan back to the building, while the warrior pushed the wheelchair. Those children looked so happy, as they rambling about a few things and Kellan would engage with them all, paying close attention to them, while the previous little girl nestled against his chest. The little girl must think the prince was the most trusted person after she lost her parent and became so attached to him.
Once all of them disappeared into the building, Cane walked in the small garden. A few children ran past him and some of them greeted him fearfully. His appearance must be very intimidating for those pure souls, thus when he noticed they feared him, he walked toward a quieter place, where there were not many people here.
Above his head, the sun was almost set and the braziers were lit up, while the luminous pearl was hung in the dark spot, to illuminate the place.
She didn't come.
Cane closed his eyes, as he stared at the bleak sky. There was a myriad thought running in his mind. He felt a little bit disappointed and… uncomfortable.
He had told her he would understand if she didn't come, but it seemed, he hoped she would be here.
Cane opened his eyes and stared at his hand. He didn't know since when he used to hold hers, but it felt empty right now.
Right at that time, Trion came to his side. "Alpha, the luna has been looking for you," he said, which made Cane shifted his attention toward him.
"Iris?" he asked with a frown.
"Yes." Trion nodded. "She arrived an hour ago when you were still talking with the prince, currently she is in the building."
Cane walked toward the building even before his mind could process it. "With whom did she come?" He didn't take Ethan with him because he wanted the gamma to be with Iris in the palace. It would be better if Ethan was here as well with her, or else, Cane wouldn't be so kind with his punishment.
"The luna came with the gamma and Hanna."
"Hm." Cane nodded and quickened his steps.
Once he was in the building, he didn't need direction where to find his mate, because he could smell her sweet scent. Her scent was the first thing that he noticed once he stepped inside.
After her scent, he heard a cry of a baby and Iris's small voice in attempt to comfort the little one and also Hanna and Ethan's voice.
Cane walked through the corridor and opened the second door on his left, as he found his mate was holding a little baby, who was crying until her face turned red, Iris tried to feed her, tapping wet clothes to her lips, while Ethan and Hanna were arguing about something.
Cane didn't know what the two of them were talking about, as his eyes focused on his mate, who was holding a baby in her arms, she looked so gentle and enchanting, as the dull golden light of the sun spilled into the room from the big window behind her.
Somehow, the sight of her was holding a baby warmed Cane's heart, yet at the same time, he felt this helplessness again and sorrow, especially when he watched the way Iris stared at the baby with love in her beautiful eyes.
