"What happened with Will?" Hanna asked Ethan, as they followed behind Iris and Cane. The two of them were walking in the yard before dinner was ready. They would have dinner together with the rest of the children and prince Kellan. "Why he didn't return my letter? Is he angry with me?"1

Hanna had wreaked her brain to figure out what could possibly make him angry, but she couldn't find any. They didn't even have a fight, before he ignored her like this.

"No, there is no way he is angry with you," Ethan reassured her. "He always talks about you with his eyes lit up, as if he just swallowed luminous pearl, but he looks a little bit down lately. It is not only you, he ignored anyone else and spent the whole day without saying a word."

Hanna bit her lip, she had heard about that and thought the other warrior only exaggerated the situation, but after more than four people said it, she couldn't help, but became even more worried about Will.

"Do you know what caused him like that?" Hanna was nervous. She didn't like this feeling, if she could, she wanted to go to where he was, but it was not possible. "Do you know what happened to him during the monster attack?"

"I don't know… I don't have any idea what happened during the monster attack." Ethan then pointed himself. "I was locked inside that damn room, remember?"

"Ah, right…" Hanna just remembered that. She was too anxious, so she forgot that detail.

"I think the only person, who knows why Will suddenly acted weirdly, it's him." Ethan nodded at Cane's back. "But, don't let your hope high. I don't even know how to pry an information out of him."

Hanna stared at the alpha's back and then at her missy, who was stealing a glance at Cane every now and then, as they walked in silence side by side.

She was so desperate to see Will and talk to him. She had been so restless every time she thought about him, as if something bad would happen. This ominous feeling didn't want to go away.

On the other hand, Iris tried to engage Cane with a light conversation, because the alpha had been very quiet, he didn't even say anything when he saw her here. Why he was so callous? Didn't he feel happy to see her? Or at least, relief? He wanted to see her, right?

"Are you not happy to see me here?" Iris asked bluntly, which made Cane snapped his head, didn't expect such question from her.

Iris furrowed her brows slightly and looked at him nervously. "I am happy," Cane replied curtly, before he shifted his attention to the orphanage building in front of him. It seemed dinner had been prepared and the smell of delicious food wafted in the air.

The appetizing aroma of sizzling bacon was mouthwatering.

"Do you want to see me here?"

"Yes."

"Will you sad if I don't come?"

Cane glanced at her and met with her expectant eyes. "I am glad you are here."

A small smile tugged on the corner of Iris's lips, though that was not the answer that she was looking for, but at the very least, he let her knew he wanted her to be here.

Iris swung their holding hand together. It was easy to tell she was delighted with Cane's answer, but he stopped her from swinging their hand, as he held her small one firmly.

Yet, Iris's smile immediately faded away when she saw the person, who had been waiting for them in front of the building. It was Nala. The sight of her put Iris in a bad mood.

"Alpha Cane," Nala greeted Cane, as she approached him with a beautiful smile on her lips. Her eyes shone brightly. "I have been waiting for you. I came to relay a message from the king."

Nala even had the audacity to ignore Iris completely, as she didn't even glance at the woman beside Cane.

Seeing how this woman ignored his mate, Cane didn't heed to what she said and pulled Iris with him, as both of them walked past her.

Nala was stunned. How could an alpha ignore a message from the king? But, Cane just did.

"Alpha!" Nala immediately followed him inside the building. "Alpha, this is a message from the king, you need to respect it." She admired Cane's recklessness, as he dared enough to ignore her after she brought up the king's name. What made him so confidence to go against the king?

At this point, Nala really wanted to know more about Cane, not only for her mission, but she was genuinely curious about this man. She glanced at Cane and Iris's intertwined hands, as they walked side by side and felt jealous.

"Alpha!" Nala ran ahead and stopped right in front of Cane, forced the two of them to stop and listened to her. "Alpha, I will not take offense of what you have done earlier, but you need to listen to me."

"I take offense."

Nala stopped for a moment, she was confused with what he was saying, so did Iris, she looked at Cane closely. "Pardon me?" Nala furrowed her brows. Why did he take offense when she was the one, who was being offended.

"What rank are you?" Cane asked coldly, which made Nala's face blanched, because she immediately understood what the alpha meant.

She was someone without rank on her own, only a daughter of a chief royal warrior. If rank was based on the status of your family and the man that had taken you in to be their women, then Nala's rank was close to a personal maid, since the status of chief royal warrior her father had, didn't mean anything in front of the alpha, especially Cane, who held the golden stamp and was the special envoy of the king.

"My apologize, alpha," Nala said weakly. She lowered her head, her face had turned bright red.
