THE ENEMY OF MY ENEMY IS NOT MY PROBLEM

"You are late," Lou said annoyingly when he saw Alan. He tapped his feet impatiently, as he looked at the prince. There was no trace of respect on the way the merchant acted, as if he was waiting for someone with lower rank than him, instead of a crown prince of the kingdom. 2

He became so smug because he knew how desperate the king wanted him to start the construction of the magical device around the capital city. This was also one of the king's ways to reassure the people that everything was under control and they were safe in the city. It calmed them down a little bit, but they still sceptic and the tension were still so high.

Especially with the people from the Red Claw pack demanded the king to find the fourth prince as soon as possible. The situation became even murky than the king could handle, thus he relied heavily on Cane to fix all the problem, by giving him the title of the king's special envoy.

"There are a lot of things I need to do, I am busy." Alan was tasked to make a good connection with Lou, but he didn't think he could do it. Their personalities simply clashed with each other, more so, the crown prince was not really smart to control his emotion and ego, he let his anger out of control and put him in trouble, often time.

"Well, if you don't have time, you can go back to where you were, but don't tell me to wait for you." Lou turned around and he walked along the high wall of the capital city.

This wall encircled the capital city, it was a fortress against any attack, especially monster, thus it was very absurd for those monsters to appear in the palace, while the palace was placed in the center of the city. There was no sign the monster broke through the wall and the portal was still under the investigation of the royal magic users.

However, there was no way they could link it back to Lou.

Alan stopped the merchant, he blocked his way before he climbed the stairs to the watchtower, where they would put the device in eight spots on this wall, which surrounded the capital city. They call this wall as the Great Ogregon.

"I know you dislike Cane." Alan went as far as called Cane without his title, showing how he looked down on him.

"What are you trying to say?" Lou tilted his head, his red cloak fluttered against this winter wind, it felt a little bit warm this afternoon, as the snow slowly melted.

"I can help you."

"I never recall I need your help."

Alan gritted his teeth. He hated this when someone playing a fool with him. Lou should have known what he meant. "I can see how you dislike him. He didn't respect you and moreover-" Alan lowered his voice, as his eyes turned vicious. "You like that woman, right? Iris, Cane's mate. I can see that you are interested on her, that's why you want to spend a day with her."

That was the condition Lou gave to Alan when he wanted the Asturi Stem and he thought, because Lou was having his eyes on her.

"You can spend days with her, I can help you with that, as long as you help me too." Alan thought, if they couldn't stand each other and was too difficult for him to be close to him, since their interest was so different, they could work on something together, in that way, he could get a hold of this merchant.

Hearing that, Lou raised his brows and then he broke into a fit of laughter, which left Alan stunned. He was confused at first, but a little while later, he felt humiliated. What did he mean by laughing like that to his suggestion?

Once Lou stopped laughing, he patted Alan's shoulder, while staring at him with a pity. "Do you really think you can one up the alpha? You never won a case against him, not when we were in the black market, neither when you are in your comfy palace with your parent backing you up. How do you think you can outsmart him?"

Lou spoke in such a way, as if Alan was only a little boy, who was too cocky because he had a great power behind him, yet without that, he was only someone without brain.

"Of course, we can!" Alan was fumed. He didn't like the way Lou talked to him.

"'We'?" Lou smirked, he tilted his head, as he looked at Alan up and down. If Cane showed his contempt by ignoring him, the merchant showed his contempt bluntly. "I am not a typical person that will say; the enemy of my enemy is my friend. No. The enemy of my enemy is not my problem. Not my battle."

Lou patted Alan's shoulder again, as he stepped aside and climbed the stairs to the watchtower, but on the third stairs he turned around and spoke again.

"Oh, actually, I have a deal with the alpha to make a magical device in his packs, since his packs are often to be attacked by monster."

"You! You are a traitor! How can you help him?!" Once again, Alan threw a tantrum.

"I am not a traitor, my prince, I am a merchant and I am looking for profit." Lou grinned and then turned around to continue his job. He had been wasting his time to wait for this spoiled crown prince, as he didn't help with this project at all.

Lou wondered, how could princess Osana could get cursed? He had tried to gather information about it, but there was not much he could get.

More so… why that damned alpha took his favorite red hair girl out of the palace for so long?! He took her to the orphanage, the place where noisy children were! Ugh!

=============================

When Cane entered the room, Koda was having a conversation with prince Kellan, but both of them stopped talking and acknowledge his presence.

"I think it is time for me to check on the children. They are very excited with my new game." Prince Kellan smiled at Koda and Cane, as the warrior pushed his wheelchair out of the room.

Meanwhile, Koda dismissed his warriors, so he could have a private conversation with Cane.

"It has been a long time, Cane." Koda stood up, his body was so huge, he was a half head taller than Cane and his face was hardened, but he smirked condescendingly when he spoke. "The last time I saw you, you were still a young boy."

"Yes, and now I am an alpha." He asserted this fact, because he knew Koda was about to intimidate him by trying to picture him as a young boy in his mind, as if they were not equal. It was a simple trick, which was commonly used.

"Alpha Cane." Koda's voice was a little bit stern.

"Was it the king, who sent you here?" Cane asked. "If you want to find your grandson faster, you need to actively get involved in this case."
