ALL THE SCARS

This was not the first time he saw her naked, but under this particular circumstance, she felt more self- conscious than ever.

Lying on the bed, crossing her arms across her developed chest, Iris shut her eyes close. Her feverish little face became even redder at this moment.

Under this light and clear mind, her scars looked even more palpable. They were ugly. It was not even a passable sight to say the least.

Though the worst scars she got were on her back, there were a few little scars that littered her chest and her stomach. One could only imagine what Mason had done to her, despite being his only little sister, she didn't deserve his cruelty at all.

Her milky skin was slightly red because of her fever.

For a moment, Cane's eyes darkened. This was the first time for him to see her naked body with clear conscience, without anger or revenge plaguing his thoughts, nor being in the throes of the heated moments.

But what he saw was not something that he wished to happen to anyone.

From what he learned, Mason would punish her so badly whenever he found out Iris fed the slaves. But then again, he was not stupid enough to leave scars on her face, even though he didn't care to spare her body.

Also, because of the reason she was his sister, he didn't throw her to the guards and let them have their way with her. It would also have smeared the Alpha's name after all.

However, that couldn't gloss over what he had done to her.

Now, Cane could see clearly that every scar on her body was the reason for them to be able to survive this long. She wouldn't have been punished severely by Mason if she had quit after the first time. If she gave up after the first beating, she wouldn't have suffered, but then, she had chosen to go through all that because she was willing to help them.

Yes, they had suffered in those years, but she also suffered with them. 

Meanwhile, Iris kept her eyes closed because she wanted to pretend that she was not here, she didn't want to know what kind of look that Cane had right now. She covered her breasts with her arms, but she couldn't stop squirming out of discomfort.

However, after a few minutes passed and she didn't feel any movement from Cane, Iris opened her eyes and at the same time, Cane averted his gaze to grab the towel and started wiping her body.

There was a complicated look in his dark eyes, yet he said nothing and did his job thoroughly. When he helped her to put on her dress, he saw her back again, but Iris immediately turned her body around, so he couldn't look at it for long.

"Th- thank you," Iris said in a small voice. Her heart was thumping loudly, feeling embarrassed. She really wanted the ground to crack open so she could hide in it, but the worst part was; Cane didn't say anything. He did all of that in silence, as if this was only a menial task that had to be done.

Perhaps, that was a good thing, since there wouldn't be any topic appropriate to talk about in such a situation.

In any case, once Iris was comfortable in her dry and clean clothes, and her head touched the pillow, she started to doze off. She didn't notice how Cane tucked her in or lay next to her afterward.

Just like before, he hugged her in his arms, before he drifted off to sleep. He could only ward off his nightmares when he had her close.

The next morning, Iris woke up groggily and found she was alone in her bedroom. Cane was nowhere in sight, but there was a tray of breakfast waiting on the table next to her along with a letter, telling her that he would return this noon.

It was only a simple letter, but it was enough to dust her cheeks pink again as she recalled what happened last night.

Thankfully, she was feeling better this morning, though a little bit sluggish. She ate her meal and rested again.

On the other hand, Cane was having breakfast in the dining hall, along with Alpha Gallot and Alan. All of them were there. However, it was clear that Ethan was very impatient to leave this place soon.

The new moon would be tomorrow night and they were surrounded by the people who would tear Cane apart if they found out that he engaged himself in the dark magic and would turn into the cursed shifter, the lycan.

The King would be delighted to get his hands on such a fact and they would be doomed for sure. It was a higher risk to stay than offending Alpha Gallot, but Cane still looked so calm.

Didn't he take this matter seriously? Couldn't he look at the bigger picture?

Ethan was restless, he didn't eat much and only stabbed at his meat occasionally, while Will, who was sitting next to him, could feel his sour mood. Only, he couldn't understand why he was being like this.

"I have arranged a three day and three night party for all of you, starting tonight! We have two guests of honor!" Alpha Gallot announced and the members of his pack pounded their fists on the table, making an uproar. They loved parties, since there would be lots of food, wine and women.

Slavery in this part of the kingdom was not as bad as in the south, but still the slaves would be treated less than humans.

"I have prepared a few women for the two of you! Hehe…" Alpha Gallot laughed mischievously.

While Alan was filled with delight upon hearing that, Cane didn't seem bothered with that, as he continued to eat his meal.2

"I am sure you must miss these kinds of moments. I still remember what people said that whenever Alpha Gerald threw a party, they would call upon you the most!" Alan sneered, he reminded Cane of his slavery days. "Why don't you call the savages, Alpha Gallot? Alpha Cane and his people surely miss the taste of them!"
