BEAR MEAT

The conversation last until evening, Cane and Koda even skipped lunch, therefore, Iris was also still in the orphanage because Cane didn't give an instruction for her to go alone. 1

When they finally ended the conversation, the sky had turned so dark because the sun set faster in this winter. All the dark corner of the building had been lit up by the fire from the brazier and illuminated by the luminous pearls.

However, in the yard, you could hear the sound of children were still playing. It was not night yet and they were still full of vigor.

The sound of it intrigued Cane to come closer and find out what they were laughing about, but a little child ran toward him and almost bumped him if he didn't stop this little girl in time.

"I am sorry," the little girl said. She was around the age of seven. She looked scared, afraid Cane would get angry at her.

"It's okay…" Cane said lightly, as he patted her head. "Why are you here?" there was no children aside from this kid around this area, though this place was safe, but it would be better if she was not alone.

The little girl lit up, as she spoke. "There is a huuuge bear there!" She flapped her arms to show how big the creature was. "We want to feed it and my friend said, the bear eats meat, so I go to get meat!" she said excitedly.

"Huge bear?" Cane furrowed his brows. Wasn't that dangerous to have a bear inside the orphanage full with children? "Where is it?" He didn't show his agitation, but how could no one notice a huge bear in this area?

"Here, over here!" The little girl jumped up and down, as she held Cane's hand to show him the huge bear they found. "The bear is white! So white like snow!" she chirped.

"White bear?" Cane had only ever encountered one white bear and he didn't wish to see that lazy creature again, especially the owner of it. It was a long day, the hard conversation with Koda left him in no mood to do anything, aside to meet with his mate.

"Yes, yes!" The girl was running now, as Cane followed her. Her little hand was so small in his. "Over here! Over here! There!"

She then pointed her finger at the creature.

But, Cane found something that made his whole body exuded killing intent, as his eyes fixed on the white bear.

In the middle of the yard, he saw the lazy ass white bear, sprawling with his muzzle faced the covered- snow ground, while the children climbed on its big body, laughing happily, yet the creature was too lazy to shake them off.

Was it dead?

At this point, it looked more like an overgrown puppy instead of a beast!

But, if this dummy creature was here, he must be here too!

Lou. The merchant, or should Cane say a sorcerer?

He was one among people he didn't want to meet, the sight of his pet was already irritated him. He would like to kick the creature along with the owner if it was not because of the fact the children were there.

On the other hand, the little girl beside Cane started sobbing when she felt the ominous aura radiated from the alpha. She scared of him and this snapped him back to press down his dissatisfaction.

"The bear doesn't eat meat," Cane said, as he ruffled her hair, so she would stop tearing up. This time, he looked at her warmly. "The bear is hibernating now, that's why it's sleeping."

The girl blinked her eyes. "What is hibernating?"

Cane smiled softly. "Where is your big sister?"

Big sister was how these children called the women, who took care of them when they were in the orphanage and after Cane talked to one of them and make sure the children didn't climb on top of the bear, as he didn't know what would be the reaction of the bear, he left them to find his mate.

It was not hard to find Iris, since he easily picked her scent, though the trace of it was very faint in this cold weather.

Cane found Iris was talking to Lou, while Hanna stood by her side, the maid looked dissatisfied, as she glared at the merchant.

However, it was Iris, who ran toward Cane first when she saw him coming closer. She literally ran toward him, but the thing that made Cane frowned was the sight of a bucket of yellow flower in her hand.

"Cane!" Iris called his name, as she stopped in front of him, yet the alpha currently was staring at the merchant, who was waving his hand innocently and approached them, while Hanna immediately retreated, because she saw the alpha was already here.

Even so, Hanna was still around to hear how their conversation went.

"Alpha Cane, long time no see," Lou said cheerfully, he grinned at him harmlessly. "I have been looking for you, but you have not yet returned to the palace for days, so I decided to come here, once I heard you are in this orphanage with prince Kellan." Lou then added with a trace of mocking tone. "You are so busy, aren't you?"

But, Cane ignored his jab and looked down at the yellow flower in Iris's hand. He snatched it from Iris's hand. "Who gave this to you?"

"Sir Lou gave it to me," Iris replied, she stood close to Cane, which highlighted their significant height difference. The tip of her head didn't even touch his chin.

Hearing that, Cane handed the poor yellow flower back to its owner callously.

Lou had a hard time to make Iris accepted the flower, but now it was handed back to him. "This is rare flower and I…" But, before he could speak more, Cane had beat him into it.

"She is allergic," Cane said simply. He found another variation of excuse aside from 'she is sick'.

Not too far from them, Hanna covered her mouth, so she wouldn't make any noise when she was laughing to hear such petty excuse. She didn't remember her missy had an allergy to flower, any flowers.

"What is it? Why are you hiding here?" Ethan and Trion came over because he saw Hanna was hiding in the bushes.

"Get down!" Hanna said sternly, as she put her finger in front of her lips, indicating for them to keep quiet.

Docilely, the two of them squatted down on her left and right, following Hanna's line of sight and watched the entire event, at the same time, Hanna gave them a little bit of rundown of what had happened.

There, they watched how Cane turned Lou speechless, as he held the flower, not long after, the two of them walked away after the alpha told the merchant to wait in one of the rooms if he wanted to have any discussion about the magical device.

However, just like its owner, the pet also annoyed Cane, as the lazy white bear waddled toward Iris happily when they were about to leave.

"Heaven, the alpha would love to have a bear meat for his dinner," Trion stated, as he watched how dark Cane's expression was.
