PLEASE, DON'T HURT HER

Cane closed his eyes and drank the water, but when the glass was empty, he lowered his hand and smashed it against the table, as the sharp shards shattered, cutting his cheek and his skin, his hand was bleeding because the remaining of the glass crushed within his tight grip. 2

"Ah!" Hanna squeaked, she looked mortified to see the alpha. She watched his back, trembling. Even his back alone looked so scary, she couldn't imagine his expression right now. "Al- alpha… Miss Iris was still little… she didn't know any better… I am sure there is nothing between them. They were just friend back then. Miss Iris was happy because no one played with her… Please, alpha… think clearly. She was only a poor little child, who wanted a friend…"

Hanna blabbered, the way she assumed the situation was the same like how Redmond was thinking about what was going on upon facing the alpha's question and reaction.

They assumed the alpha thought Iris and prince Kellan had a special connection, that they had a relationship behind his back, back in the day when she was little. If worse came to worse, they assumed Cane thought Kellan was Iris's first love or something.

They didn't know. They really didn't know…

After all, for someone, who was ignorance of a little horrifying detail of what they knew, the way Cane acted right now justified their assumption.

More so, they couldn't think straight with an enraged alpha was within the close proximity. His anger was so suffocating.

On the other hand, Cane simply waved his hand to shake off the remaining sharp shards that stabbed his palms, as he pulled them out from his flesh, so he could stop bleeding, yet he didn't even flinch when he did that. He was numb with the pain.

The only voice that rang in his ears was Hanna's words, which said Iris couldn't tell anyone because prince Kellan told her so. The same words that she repeated in her dreams with her small voice filled with fear.

It was a long dreadful silence inside this kitchen and Hanna covered her mouth to muffle her cries, she was so scared.

"Why Iris forgot about that?" Cane asked. If she was happy, why she forgot about that?

Hanna shook her head. "I don't know, alpha…" she said, her voice stifled with sobs. She was scared of him, but at the same time, she feared for her missy's safety. What the alpha would do to her when he was this angry? "One day miss Iris hid under her bed and refused to go out and then she got fever for almost three weeks straight… I think, I think at that time she forgot a few things that had happened…"

Hanna tried to explain to Cane why she thought Iris lost some of her memories, including her time that she spent with prince Kellan and a few abuses Mason had done to her.

"She even forgot about the stable boy…" Hanna blinked her eyes and then remembered something. "Ah. The day she hid under the bed was the day when the stable boy was killed before her eyes by alpha Gerald. She must be very shocked because of that."

"She remembered about the stable boy." Cane knew about this, because Iris had mentioned it in passing in the past.

"Yes, she remembered about the stable boy after around two months, but she couldn't remember the detail of how the poor boy was being killed by her father."

No one knew what happened that day, even Hanna couldn't get the detail of it, aside from the fact the poor boy was killed by alpha Gerald and his body was not in good condition when they buried him.

"Alpha, please… miss Iris will never harbor any feeling toward prince Kellan. She is very devoted to you… she will never do something to betray you."

Cane heard nothing of it, as his mind raced, while trying to control his anger. He had never felt so enraged like this after he was freed from the clutch of Gerald, when he didn't need to see his people suffered, but right now, he was literally shaking.

There was this urge inside of him that longed for blood.

"Alpha Cane… please…" Hanna was afraid Cane would hurt Iris, seeing how angry he was, it was a possibility.

Hanna didn't know what happened, which caused the alpha to be in this extreme bad mood, but whatever it was, it was not a good sign. She couldn't understand why it was prince Kellan, when it was Lou, who clearly had been pestering her missy, yet the alpha took it well and didn't seem to be bothered by it.

"No one will know about this conversation."

And after saying that, Cane walked away from that kitchen, leaving Hanna was still reeling in her emotions, before finally she snapped out of it and rushed toward Iris's bedroom. She was afraid of what the alpha would do to her.

However, when she was there, the room was empty, but she could hear a soft whimper from under the bed.

"Miss Iris?" Hanna squatted down next to the bed and lift the blanked that dangled on the side of it, as she found Iris was curling her body there, she hugged herself, while sobbing softly. "Miss Iris what happened?"

Hanna felt her heart ached to see her like this, because the last time she saw her this scared was when Mason whipped her so hard, she almost died if it was not for alpha Gerald, who stopped his son.

"Miss? Come out for a while, will you?"

==============================

It was still afternoon, but the sky out there was so bleak.

Trion had prepared the carriage, just as Cane had instructed him, though he didn't have any idea why they returned to the palace all of sudden because this was not the plan.

"Where are they?" Trion asked Ethan, who just returned from going to Iris's bedroom, to inform her they were ready to go, but he met with Hanna, who told him, they couldn't leave now.

Ethan didn't know what happened, but he heard the soft sobbing sound from inside.

"Where is the alpha?" Ethan asked, his expression looked distraught.

"I don't know. I think I heard from the guards around, the alpha shifted into his beast and ran into the woods."

"He shifted into his beast?"

As a shifter, they used to shift into their beast form, to connect to their innerself more. There was nothing weird about that, but Ethan felt there was more into it.

"What happened with him?"

Trion shook his head. "I don't know. He looked so angry."

But, right at that time, before they could continue with the conversation, Ethan caught the sight of Cane, he walked toward him and glanced at the carriage, realizing his mate was not there yet.

"Where is Iris?" His voice was so stoic and his expression looked so dark.

"She is still in her room and I think there is something wrong there," Ethan reported it to Cane, as he followed behind him.

Cane walked in quick pace toward the bedroom. His jaw clenched tightly. He looked like he was going to a battle instead.
