I SWEAR, I DONT LIE!
Iris had never seen something like this before, neither she had any idea the little lizard had such ability to disappear and appear again in different media of flames.
"How can you do that?" Iris was dumstruck to see the little lizard in the other young man's hand.
The young boy smiled innocently and put the little lizard back on her hand, as he waited with expectant eyes. His green eyes looked so beautiful under the sunlight that streamed down through the window.
Iris received the little lizard and the creature curled its body on her palms, making small noises, as it nuzzled her thumb and closed it eyes.
"Who are you?" Iris narrowed her eyes. She didn't feel this young man was dangerous, but their whereabouts must be kept secret. One word out about them being here, would cause trouble for Cane's entire plan and that was the last thing Iris wanted.
Albeit, she was not clear with his whole plan, but she knew this much not to divulge their location.
The young boy with golden hair only shook his head. He looked at her sadly and pointed his finger at Iris, which only made her more confused.
"What do you want to say?" Iris frowned and the little lizard in her hands had fallen asleep, purring like a kitty. "Who are you?"
With the same question Iris asked him, he made the same gesture; pointing his finger at Iris.
"I don't understand, why don't you talk?" Iris forgot her fear a moment ago and took a step closer toward him. She remembered the last time they met, he talked to her, but why he refused to talk now?
Once again, he looked at her sorrowfully and shook his head, but then, his body stiffened and he stared at the door before he turned around and was about to leave, as if he was sensing something.
"No! Don't go! Wait!" Iris grabbed his arm and was slightly surprised. She knew this man was lean, but not this thin. It almost felt like and arm of a child.
And everything happened so fast.
Cane entered the room with Jace behind him, he looked furious because he smelled another scent from inside the room and at the same time, the young man twisted his arm out of Iris's grip, as he turned around and leapt from the window.
"Get him," Cane said coldly at his beta and Jace immediately shifted into his beast, as he leapt from the window as well to follow after the man, while Cane grabbed Iris's arm and turned her body around to get her attention. "What is this?" he asked grimly.
Iris was stunned to see Cane was there, but then she immediately explained everything, since she was afraid, he would think it was her, who invited the man to come. She didn't want to be under Cane's suspicion, because she had seen how devious he was against his enemy, she didn't want to be on his bad side and more so, she didn't want to lose a little trust she had gained from him.
"Oh, and look at this!" Iris tugged Cane's sleeve to come closer to the fireplace and toss the poor sleeping lizard into the flames. The little creature's eyes widened when its body flew into the fire, as it let out a squeaking noise. "Come here, look!"
This time, Iris tugged Cane's sleeve again so he would follow her to the brazier. She looked a little bit panic in her attempt to explain herself to Cane, while the alpha slightly furrowed his brows, trying to figure out what his mate was trying to do.
"Here, see this!" Iris pointed her finger to the brazier, but there was nothing happened.
"What should I see?" Cane asked and Iris became even more panic when the lizard didn't appear from the brazier, she pulled her hair in distress.
"The lizard should appear there. I swear. I don't lie to you!" Iris turned her head to look at Cane, she was about to cry. "I don't lie. I swear!"
Iris had always this fear to be called as a liar, since that was what Mason always told her; a liar and an attention seeking, it engraved in her mind deeply. Especially when Cane didn't say anything, but his eyes fixed on the brazier.
"That man did it in this way and the lizard will appear from the brazier," Iris explained it again hastily. "I don't lie."
"Iris." Cane grabbed her hand that pulling her hair relentlessly, he put his other hand on the back of her head, as he made a circle motion in order to soothe her anxiety. "Tell me slowly."
Iris started to explain it again and this time, she was a little bit calmer than before, as she told him about more detail she failed to mention before.
Cane then looked at the fireplace, but he was sure, the lizard didn't come out from there. It could be said the creature had died and turned into ashes by now, but then there was no way the lizard didn't struggle first, before it was burned to death. When Iris tossed the creature, it vanished, once the flames swallowed it.
"So, he lit up the brazier?" Cane muttered to himself and then move away from Iris to put off the flames on the brazier, before he lit it up again and there…. The little lizard scrambled out of the flames, shaking its small body, as it was water instead of fire.
"Ah! There!" Iris immediately rushed forward, as she was about to get the lizard, but Cane did it first, he felt its body and only when he thought it was safe that he handed it over to Iris.
"He showed you this?" Cane narrowed his eyes.
He smelled someone else's scent from inside the room when he was halfway here and immediately rushed inside to see that young man and Iris.
"Yes." Iris nodded immediately. "Oh, he was also the man, who appeared inside my bedroom when we were in the black market, did you remember when you rushed inside the room and smelled someone else's scent?" 0
Cane absolutely remembered that. So, it was not the first encounter between Iris and that mysterious man. But, what his motive and intention? He became alert with this fact. Someone was trying to make connection with his mate and he didn't have any idea at all. Was it from the royal family? The people from Blue Moon pack that was still on the run, as his men still hunted them down? What was this?
Cane hated it when something was out of his control and he was clueless regarding the matter.
"I don't know him, I don't lie…" Iris said, fiddling with her fingers nervously, seeing how serious Cane's expression was, it made her felt unwell.
Cane then shifted his attention toward his mate and caressed her rosy cheek and kissed the tip of her nose. "I know."
At the same time, Jace returned and watched the scene. The beta shifted into his human form and stared at Iris with complicated look on his eyes. This was the first time after months they met again.
