CLAIM THE BABY

This was the first time for Iris to be kissed, she was not sure what to do to match his aggressiveness, but she was so desperate to get close to him, as she kissed him back clumsily and this made the alpha tensed up.  1

Cane groaned into her mouth, when he could feel her nails grazed his neck, as she tried to hold onto her during their kiss. Iris tasted so sweet and screamed innocent, as she tried to figure out how to kiss him back. 

His mate pressed her body against him and tangled his hair with her fingers and this made him lost it. 

However, Cane stopped himself before he went too far and it was too late for him to backtrack. He pushed Iris away lightly and distance himself, he needed to cool off before the heat got to him, once it did, it would be either he hurt himself, or he hurt her and what they were doing was a close call…

Cane didn't know what got into him when he kissed her. For someone like him, losing himself in a heated moment, was mortifying, even so for himself. 

After all, he couldn't afford to make a reckless and an impulsive decision, but he just did with Iris and the more shocking revelation for him was; he didn't despise it…

He used to hate someone else's touch, let alone an intimate act such as a kiss, yet her touch and kiss were so different for him… it didn't repulse him, but he couldn't say the same about what Iris felt right now.

On the other hand, Iris looked flustered because all of sudden, Cane rejected her, but she couldn't say anything, as she tried to calm down her breathing, taking a good grasp of what was going on just a second ago. 

They were kissing, there was no denying it, as Iris still could feel the taste of his cold lips against hers. Her lips were swollen, but when the realization hit her, she blushed profusely. She lowered her head, didn't want to see Cane, yet the anger still etched in her mind and heart. She couldn't get rid of it and the more she tried, the more she agitated herself by her effort. 

She wanted to scream in frustration, she wanted to be angry, despite knowing it was so wrong to vent out all of her negative emotions toward her mate, but her heart was constricted, she felt so overwhelmed with everything that was going on around her and the news about Sofia, claiming she was pregnant with Cane's baby and how the member of the Howling Wolf pack was overjoyed with the news as they welcomed this stranger with opened arms, made Iris felt so sick, worthless and angry. 

That was the last straw for Iris. 

For a moment, the silence was so deafening, even for Iris, who used to it, as the only sound she could hear was the howling from the lycan and that one time, when she heard Cane called her name during her heat. She thought, she must be mistaken it, that it was only in her mind. 

"I don't understand with your anger," Cane said, despite Iris didn't look at him. "I don't understand why you are angry at me. You need to tell me what you feel, so I understand what is going on. I can't understand you and it frustrated me."

And then another silence, as Iris kept her head low, she stared at her finger, as if it was the most interesting thing in her life right now, while her mind wandered a thousand of possibilities. All of her negative thoughts and memories hunted her down right at this moment, though outward, she looked so placid and quiet, but there was storm inside of her. 

'Men carrying pain are storms and your mate is in so much pain.' Redmond said those words once in the past and now she thought it applied to her as well. There was also this one time, he told her how Cane had changed her.

Cane did change her with or without him realizing it. It was so true. By involving herself in the storm that Cane had created, Iris was forced and demanded to change in the way she saw her surrounding and faced the problem. 

And she needed to keep changing in order to keep up with everything that was going on or would happen in the future. 

But, she felt so stuck at this moment. She couldn't get rid of this bitter feeling after hearing the news about Sofia and the feeling of unworthy and dirty, because of what Kellan and alpha Gill had done to her, she was so broken, it was not only her back that was scarred, but what heinous act they had done to her had scarred so deep within her mind. 

Cane stared at her, trying to read what was going on in her pretty head, but it was hard to tell, because she acted not like usual. 

Iris didn't seem to repulse the kiss between them earlier, Cane was even able to see how she blushed, which meant his act didn't trigger her trauma, something he concerned the most, as he didn't want his recklessness hurt her again like what happened before. 

"She is pregnant. She is pregnant with your child," Iris said in mumbling voice after the silence that stretched between them. 

Hearing that, Cane moved closer to her and put his finger under her chin to lift her head, so she could see what he was going to say. 

"You know the baby is Redmond's."

Iris gritted her teeth. She didn't cry, she looked so upset and agitated. "But, what all people knows the baby is yours!" She looked at Cane dead in the eyes. "She is carrying your child! People thinks she is pregnant with your child! What will you do?! The king gave you two years to have an heir and now this is your opportunity to claim the baby!"
