IRIS WILL NEVER KNOW THIS
"You let her kissed you and you kissed her in the garden." Jace held his breath when the question left his lips. "Why?"0
Hearing the question, Cane was as stoic as ever, he didn't even flinch, neither he showed some emotions.
However, the beta should have seen this coming, since he knew Cane too well and an explanation wouldn't come from him easily.
"Have you found the king's spy?" Cane asked, his eyes glinted with seriousness, which made Jace speechless. It was so clear he was dodging the question.
"We found more clues about this person and I think we will only need a few more evidence that he couldn't avoid before we dealt with him."
Cane nodded. "Do it quickly." And with that, he turned around and entered the room, closed the door behind him.
Meanwhile, Jace was being left alone without getting the answer he wanted. "Damn it!" he cursed under his breath. "Why Ethan is not here yet?!" he would put the gamma through an interrogation so he would get a better understanding and detail about what was going on with their alpha.
On the other hand, inside the room, Cane didn't immediately go to the bed to be with Iris. He stood behind the close door, contemplating something. His eyes looked hazy and there were a lot of emotions flashed in his black eyes. He would frown, but then his lips would press into a thin line. Occasionally, he would direct his gaze toward the bed, where his mate was sleeping.
From where he was standing, the only thing he could see was her curly, auburn hair, as her small face covered with it.
It took Cane a long while before he finally sorted out whatever things that bothered him and walked over toward his mate. The bed dipped down when he laid down next to Iris again. He stared at her for a while, observing her sleeping face and simply staring at her absentmindedly.
But before long, he leaned over, so close until his lips only a breath away from hers. He stared at those swollen lips and pulled away, yet in the next second, he had pressed his lips gently against hers. Her warmth breath caressed his cheek, as he ran his tongue against her lips. He must have bitten her too harsh when he kissed her earlier because he could feel the wound and taste of blood.
"Sorry," he whispered softly against her lips.
Iris wouldn't know what Cane was doing right now, since she had a blissful sleep.
The next day, Iris woke up late and Cane helped her to deal with her hair, like he used to do in their journey to the Riverside pack. He styled half of her hair into bun on top of her head and made two braids with the rest, since her hair was so thick and long. It would make it easier for her to move around later when they met with the people.
Unfortunately, Jace walked on them when Cane did Iris's hair and the poor beta almost got a heart attack to see this. He almost thought he walked into the wrong bedroom.
He wanted to tell Cane that everything had been set up and it was time for him to go, but instead, Cane told him to come in, since he was busy at the moment and couldn't go out to meet him.
"E- everything is ready…" Jace stammered, while Iris greeted him politely, he was even too shock to greet her back.
"Tell Oliver to get Sir Elijah out of the dungeon. He will come with us."
"Yes. Huh? Why?" Jace tried to snap back to the reality, he tempted to rub his eyes whether he was seeing a thing or not right now. "Okay, I will go right now." He immediately rushed out of the bedroom when he saw Cane was giving him a dagger look for questioning his order.
Ethan! Where are you!?
That morning, Cane took Iris to meet with people in the Riverside pack. She was riding a horse with Cane, while on their right was Jace and a man, who looked so gloomy was on their left side, he was Sir Elijah and Iris learned a little bit about him and what happened from Cane's explanation.
This man looked like he wanted to be somewhere else, but his curiosity was piqued when they rode slowly toward the street. Elijah didn't understand why Cane took him out of the dungeon. He thought, the alpha wanted to strike a deal with him or something along that line, yet he didn't even utter a single word.
Just like Iris, he was curious why they rode the horse through the main street of this pack, while the people hid themselves and opened the path for them, afraid to offend the alpha from the Howling Wolf pack, who had executed the five alphas and led the border warriors.
"Let's get down here," Cane said, as he stopped the horse and got off, he helped Iris to get down as well, while his mate looked a little bit confused, since she thought they only wanted to observe this area.
Iris was also curious about those carriages behind them. At least, there were ten to twelve carriages in the end of this long entourage.
Yes, Cane marched with at least a hundred warriors, most of them were warrior from the Howling Wolf pack.
But behind the carriages was the warriors from the Riverside pack, their hands and legs were tied with chain, but it was not silver, thus it was safe to assume they had been fed with Rottingbane, thus they wouldn't be able to shift into their beast.
"What are we going to do here?" Iris asked Cane, from the corner of her eyes, she could see how the people stared at them with curiosity and fear in their eyes.
"We are giving food," Cane answered simply and signaled for his men to start open the carriages, which filled with a lot of food for all the starving people.
