'ACCIDENT'
Though Iris used with how Cane took her hand or put his hand around her waist whenever they walked together, but right now, there were hundred pair of eyes on them! They didn't even hide their surprise to see this show of affection from the alpha toward his luna.
Iris was a little bit uncomfortable with the way they stared at them, but when she glanced at Cane, her mate was unfazed, he didn't bother with it in the slightest, as he led her toward the carriage. He helped her to get inside and Jace came with them, as the beta sat down on the coachmen seat, leaving Oliver and Sir Elijah as the people in charge for the distribution of food.
Jace looked like a person, who swallowed down a bear's heart, as he was dying of curiosity to watch this. It was out of character for Cane to show such affection.
Meanwhile, inside the carriage, Cane handed over a warm loaf of bread and a waterskin that contain warm milk.
"Eat." He gave it to Iris and started to read his secret missile.
Iris stared at the bread, it was too big for her to eat alone, thus she took a piece and extended her hand, bringing the piece of bread to Cane's mouth.
Cane was surprised by the gesture and looked at her questioningly.
"You need to eat too, you have not eaten yet," Iris said and then added. "This bread is too much for me."
"I am reading," Cane said simply and pushed her hand away, as he started to perusing his secret missile again, but Iris brought the piece of bread to his mouth again. This time, she nudged his lips with it.
If there was something had changed inside her, it would be that she had become a little bit bolder. There was no way she would be this persistent a few months ago.
"You don't need to use your mouth to read your letter," Iris said, nudging the bread against his lips again.
"Are you going to feed me?" There was mirth dancing in his black eyes when he said that.
"I am trying to help you," Iris corrected him.
For a moment, Cane said nothing and only stared at her, which made Iris frowned, but when she was about to protest, he took the bread from her hand and continued to read. He allowed her to do as she pleased.
With that, the carriage fell into silence once again, but the two people inside, seemingly contented with this serene, as they were doing their things.
From the secret missile Cane read, he learned a few things that happened in the Red Claw pack, the Celestial Moon pack, the capital city and the other four packs in the south.
At the same time, where they distributed the food for people in the Riverside pack, Cane had sent his men to the other pack to do the same thing, under the name of the king's special envoy, he moved their warriors to do the job, while their betas and gammas couldn't do anything with it, as they knew it would put them into a great trouble to intervene with the work of the king's special envoy.
The golden stamp was the best outcome Cane could get from all the trouble the king had put him into.
But what surprised him was how Aderan wrote him a letter, instead of a drawing like he used to do, since he was illiterate for as long as he knew. Though his handwriting was a little bit hard to read, but it was way easier to understand than to interpret his drawing.
With a lot of things that was going on and his mind was occupied with a lot of schemes, he didn't pay attention to this small detail, but Iris picked up where he was lacked of.
Of course, he knew it was his mate doing.
He paid no mind when his reported about how Iris taught them and the children in the orphanage how to write and read, as he counted that as Iris was doing something to fill her time, but now he could see how it helped.
While Cane, took care of the threats around them, the people who had wronged them and wanted to put their pack under their control again, his mate looked after his men.
"You need to eat more," Cane said, as he caught Iris was cheating with the size of bread she gave him. She would give him a bigger piece, while she ate like a bird.
"I am eating," Iris mumbled, suddenly interested with the scenery outside.
With that, Cane said nothing and continued to read and Iris thought he had dropped this trivial matter, as she continued to give him a bigger piece of bread.
But, when Cane opened his mouth, she could feel his warm and rough tongue licked the tip of her fingers, which made her jolted in surprised, but the alpha seemed not to notice that.
Iris felt her face turned bright red, yet she thought it was only a coincidence, but that small coincidence reminded her of their kiss last night and this made the color of the tip of her ears and neck turned even redder. Her lips were still swollen because of that and Cane helped her to put some ointment this morning.
However, when the same thing happened again, as Cane 'accidentally' licked the tip of her fingers for the second time, Iris was not sure whether he did it on purpose or not, but she couldn't protest, since Cane looked unbothered and acted like there was nothing happened.
It would be so embarrassing to bring this up, thus Iris didn't give the bread to him as often.
This an hour trip filled mostly with silence, but when they finally arrived, Jace looked confused to see how red Iris's face was when she got out of the carriage. 0
"Are you sick, luna?" Jace asked out of concern.
