IRIS WAS BEING ANXIOUS
There must be the reason why the lycan chose Iris and recognized her as his mate and if the lycan was as powerful to attach his soul to someone else in order to find his mate, there was a high possibility this said woman was not as ordinary as well.
That was what in Cane's mind when he ordered Haco to look for more information about the lycan and his mate.
But, this dense dark sorcerer irked him with his reckless comment.
"I am going, I am going, you don't need to be so upset with me, what have I done?" Haco whimpered, as he scrambled out of the carriage, afraid the alpha would snarl at him again.
Meanwhile, outside of the carriage, Jace had two of his warriors dragged a warrior from the Red Claw pack straight to their alpha. The man looked helpless as he was caught red- handed to be eavesdropping the conversation inside the carriage.
"May I know, what do you mean with this, alpha Dristan?" Jace asked, he didn't raise his voice into an accusatory tone, but it was firm.
"What do you mean, beta Jace?" alpha Dristan feigned ignorance when he saw his man was being caught. His expression didn't change, neither he showed any surprise, he looked clueless.
"I caught one of your men outside of my alpha's carriage, trying to eavesdrop the conversation," Jace said in a matter of fact tone. He looked at alpha Dristan straight into his eyes and watched how his innocent's expression morphed into surprise one.
"Really?" alpha Dristan was in disbelieve. He glared at the man behind Jace.
"I don't know anything about that," alpha Dristan said. "I do not condone such behavior."
"Are you trying to say, he is doing something without your order, alpha Dristan?" Jace asked, his expression was as stoic as ever. "A warrior received an order to make a move."
"Beta Jace, the way you talk about it, as if you are trying to picture me as a villain. How could I breach a trust that alpha Cane gave to me? We are only starting to have a collaboration, there is no way I will risk that."
[Did you find something?] he asked through mind linked to the warrior.
[My apologize. No. I can't hear anything, alpha.] The warrior replied through the mind link as well.
Alpha Dristan then nodded at his personal warrior, who was standing next to him, as he moved so fast past Jace and snapped the head of the warrior. It happened so fast, Jace didn't have time to react, so did the two warriors, who were holding the dead body now. They didn't expect this.
Once the job was done, alpha Dristan's personal warrior returned to his side. He didn't show any emotions and from what Jace gathered, his name was Warren.
"Like I said, I do not condone such behavior. I will discipline my man in the future, so they will not cause trouble. You can rest assure, beta Jace and my apologize for the inconvenience."
Not only alpha Dristan killed the warrior, but it was a show of power that his personal warrior had displayed.
Jace only nodded politely and then left, leaving the poor, dead warrior on the ground. His body was motionless and his neck craned into a weird angle. The beta let them dealt with the dead body, as he would report this to Cane.
On the other hand, alpha Dristan's eyes turned dimmed. He had startled them with this reckless move, which made them became cautious of him and yet, he got nothing.
"Next time, think twice before you gave me an advice," Dristan said to Koda in low and vicious tone, as he suppressed his anger.
Koda said nothing and only lowered his head when the alpha walked past him, while the dead body was being taken care of by the other Red Claw pack's warrior.
Later that day, after they inspected the tunnel and Cane discussed a few things about it with alpha Dristan, they returned to the pack house before sunset, as Jace told him about what happened before Iris and Cane got on their carriage.
Cane didn't look concern and only nodded at the beta, but it was Iris, who was being anxious.
"Don't you concern whether or not the warrior had heard our conversation?" Iris asked once they were inside the carriage, Cane sat down next to her, instead of the opposite seat.
"No," he said simply, as he read his secret missile again.
"What if he heard something?"
"He didn't."
"How can you be so sure?"
Cane put down the report and looked at his mate, he was so patience with her when he explained. "Because Haco had done something with this carriage, no matter how loud you are inside this carriage and no matter how close you are when you tried to eavesdrop, you will not hear anything from the outside."
"Really?" Iris's eyes widened in surprised and admiration. "There is magic like that?" She looked interested. "What else magic can do?"2
"Hm." Cane nodded and continued with what he was reading. "You need to ask Haco about that."
"If I can use magic, can I do more thing like that?" Iris looked so excited. For someone, who spent all her life to be called useless and now she found something incredible about herself, Iris felt so good.
"I don't know. You need to ask Haco about that."
And Iris was being her cheerful self asked a few more question related to magic, in which Cane didn't have knowledge about.
"Iris," Cane called her name calmly and put down the report in his hand for the second time.
Iris immediately clamped her mouth, realizing how she had talked too much, while he was reading, but somehow, she liked it every time she knew he called her name. "Okay, I will not say anything."
Iris leaned her body against the seat, but then Cane pulled her closer and pushed her head to lean against his shoulder, as he continued reading.
