Lady Rosetta
The servant who brought Oriana in, explained to the man. 0
"What? A physician from Griven? This little whelp? Is your brain even working?" The man glared at Oriana. "How dare you come here, you cheat? How dare you pretend to be a physician? Leave before you get punished!"
Oriana gritted her teeth but she knew she could not create trouble with a noble from another kingdom. "Apologies, my lord. I am indeed a physician, albeit not yet finished with my apprenticeship. If you suspect that I lied to your people to intrude, then you misunderstand. I didn't come here on my own. I was called here by your people to treat this patient."
"No need to treat her. You can leave," the man growled.
Oriana looked at the man in disbelief. "My Lord, are you blind—I mean, can't you see she looks to be in too much pain? She might die if we don't treat her!"
"Let her die then. A good-for-nothing servant."
"My Lord!"
"Didn't you hear me? Leave or else—"
"Let him treat her," they heard a dignified voice of a woman coming from the direction of the door and everyone inside the room looked at the newcomer.
There was an elegant-looking noble lady striding into the room, her appearance seemingly in her late twenties, her bearings sophisticated yet impressive, giving off a presence so strong that she effortlessly captured the attention of all people in her vicinity, regardless of status or gender.
Long, lustrous black locks fell across her shoulder, spilling over her ample bosom and cinch waist, the simple yet elegant dark blue fabric of her dress adding to her charm that seemed to exude both intelligence and mystery.
By merely standing, without doing anything, the black-haired beauty caused the room to fall into subdued silence. There was an undeniable sense of authority coming from her, the kind that no one must ever dare disobey her.
"Lady Rosetta." The knight bowed to her. "This boy cannot treat our servant. He is from Griven."
"Sir Paul, as an experienced knight, losing one life might mean little to you, but I cannot say the same about me," the woman replied in a voice that was both poise yet firm. Her gray eyes were unyielding. "This is not a battlefield. Saving a life is more valuable than the enmity between our kingdoms."
"His Majesty would not like it…"
"Then I shall be the one to bear the responsibility and punishment as consequence of this incident," she cut him off, her words showing she was determined about it. "Does that satisfy you, Sir?"
The knight clearly looked displeased. "I shall leave it to you then." He left without another word.
Oriana could not help but admire this woman. To think there was a noble lady who could calmly rebuke a royal knight, not to mention, she didn't care about punishments. She valued life equally, not looking down on a mere servant's life.
Her hazel eyes brightened. Oriana felt this woman had the same mentality as her.
She found the woman moving her gaze towards her and Oriana lowered her head to show proper respect towards her.
"Aren't you going to treat your patient?"
"Of course, I will," Oriana replied. "Her situation looks serious so it might take time to diagnose what is wrong with her, not to mention treat her. I need at least an hour. I would like to send a message to my companion waiting for me outside about the situation."
The woman nodded and looked at the servant waiting on the side. The servant understood, "I will inform that person."
Martha frowned when the servant delivered Oriana's message to her.
"An hour?" Martha had a bad feeling. "Pass my message to Physician Orian as well. I will continue waiting for him here."
The servant nodded and left with her message.
Inside the servant quarters, Oriana was yet to check the pulse of that woman. Even with the help of the young servant from the kitchen, the sick woman struggled against them and would not let her touch her.
"Let me try," Oriana heard Rosetta say. She watched the noble lady sit on the edge of the bed and caress her head. "Lily, I know you are in pain, but we need to treat you. Bear with it for a while and let this young physician treat you."
Oriana could not believe her eyes—to think she would get to see a noble showing such gentleness and care towards a mere servant! Rosetta comforted the sick servant like an older sister, even foregoing etiquette by sitting on a servant's bed.
As if that gentle caress worked like a charm, the patient somewhat calmed down, though she could not open her mouth to speak, tears streaming from her pale face.
"Can you let the physician check your pulse?" Rosetta asked.
The woman hesitantly nodded.
Oriana felt stunned. This noble lady was amazing!
She quickly took that opportunity to hold the servant's hand while the noble lady continued to gently caress the woman's head. "Hush, calm down…You will be alright…"
Oriana let go of the patient's hand after a while. "I need to check her stomach."
"Can you straighten up a little, Lily?" Rosetta asked, and though in pain, Lily slowly straightened her body, cooperating to lie flat on her back.
Finally, Oriana could see her patient's entire face. It was so pale, covered in sweat and tears, and her lips were cracked and dry, pained groans the only sound that could escape her mouth.
Oriana deftly checked her stomach, pressing down to find the specific location of pain. She also checked her temperature, and even her eyes and mouth. She tried to ask questions, but the woman could barely understand what she was saying. However, as she simplified the most important questions to be answerable by 'yes' and 'no', a nod or shake of a head, she had a rough understanding of the woman's condition.
"This is difficult. I can't be sure what exactly is the reason, but for now, I will give her medicine to relieve pain, as well as basic concoction for a stomach infection. Depending on how she reacts to the medicine, we can find out the exact cause."
Oriana opened the medicinal case she brought with her., "I do not have all the required herbs to brew her medicine."
"Do not worry about it," Rosetta spoke
