Want To Be Friends
The next morning Oriana was ready in her servant's uniform. Before leaving the Megaris guest mansion, she had to meet the Queen and inform her. 0
Eva informed her that Seren had invited her to the dining room. Not thinking much, Oriana went there, only to see Seren was already waiting for her.
"Good Morning, Your Majesty."
Seren offered her a smile, "Have a seat, Oriana. Let's have breakfast together."
Oriana was surprised. A breakfast with a Queen? How can a servant sit at the same table as the Queen. "Your Majesty, I…"
"Do not hesitate. Please have a seat," Seren insisted.
Oriana felt like she was getting burdened with the kind gestures of this queen but could not disobey her. She liked Seren but at the same time she could not forget the vast difference between their status.
As Oriana sat in the chair, the servants started to serve the food. Oriana looked around and realized there was no sign of king Dryace to arrive for the breakfast. She was aware the couple had their meals together.
As if Seren could read her hesitation and confusion, she spoke, "Dray had his breakfast early as he had important work to do. I was tired after ball so he let me sleep till late."
Oriana nodded quietly and Seren gestured her to start breakfast. The meal was made in Megaris style and Oriana was not new to it now as she had stayed here often and was treated with meals.
"I also felt like we should spend some time together as friends," she told Oriana. "We all will be parting ways tomorrow."
"Thank you for considering me worth spending your time with, Your Majesty," Oriana replied politely.
Seren smiled lightly, her eyes looking at Oriana with gentle gaze, "You are special, Oriana and you know that as well. You don't have to consider yourself someone of less worth. It's not just about you possessing special powers, but I am also referring to you being a person with a kind and pure heart who harbors no ill intentions and always looks forward to helping others. I can sense the kind of aura you have. There is no evil in you."
Oriana felt glad to hear. Who didn't like to get praised but she was still lowly than this beautiful and kind Queen in front of her.
"Also, I would like us to be friends," Seren added.
"Friends?" Oriana was taken aback, the bite she was about to have, her hand stopped midway.
"Hmm," Seren nodded, "Aren't we already like that?"
Oriana recalled their time together and even how Seren cared for. She even took her to a ball when she said she had never attended a ball. She arranged clothes for her and prepared her like a noble lady. At the ball, Seren guided her well and they even enjoyed tasting delicious food from Othinia. At that time, Oriana forgot she was a servant and both of them enjoyed themselves like any other young ladies, more like excited friends.
Oriana nodded, "I am fortunate to be your friend, Your Majesty."
"I shall say the same," Seren added, "I never had friends in my life. I got friends after I married Dray. My friends are just my lady-in-waiting Xena and my two servants Marie and Eva. I am glad to have one more friend."
As both of them smiled and talked while enjoying the food, Oriana finally asked, "Your Majesty."
"Hmm?"
"Yesterday, did you prepare me knowing I will be with someone…I mean…"
Seren understood what she wanted to ask. "It was your first time attending the ball, I wished you to enjoy it. About being with someone…Hmm?...There is no fun if you don't have any male companions and don't get to dance on that beautiful music. Moreover, Didn't I tell you I won't let you fall in the wrong hands?"
"You did assure, Your Majesty." Oriana felt a little embarrassed as if thinking Seren was aware of everything.
"Prince Arlan is a good man," Seren spoke.
Oriana could not deny the claim, "Yes he is."
Seren continued, "He is Dray's friend and I had known him for quite a long time. I can tell he is a good man. I trusted him that he would take care of you if I left you to him during the ball. I believe you had fun with him."
Oriana lowered her head and acted as if focussed on eating. She cleared her throat before admitting. "Hmm, it was fun."
She didn't dare look at Seren and didn't dare tell that other than just dancing with him, she had a different kind of fun.
That light blush on Oriana's face didn't go unnoticed by Seren. She could tell something had happened between them. Drayce had told her Oriana was Arlan's mate so it was natural for Arlan to seek for his mate.
Oriana realized something, "Your Majesty, there is one more thing."
"Feel free to say."
"His Highness doesn't know that I am Lady Ria."
"Oh! Do not worry. I won't tell him either. It's between you and him."
"Thank you, Your Majesty."
Seren knew Arlan was aware of everything but as he preferred to keep it this way, Seren didn't meddle in their matters. She believed both will find their ways towards each other just like she and Drayce found each other.
After they finished their meal and chatted for a while, Oriana was called to Drayce's study.
"Please go ahead. I am sure, Drayce must have something important to discuss with you," Seren gave her permission.
Oriana bowed and left for a study. She had a smile on her face as Seren offered her to be friends. 'Such young queen, but she is so kind and sweet. I would like to be her friend as well.'
Oriana entered Drayce's study where she greeted the King as well as the elf, Yorian.
This time Drayce didn't ask her to sit as he knew what her reply would be. He simply looked at the particular wooden box placed on his desk.
"Here is what you need."
"Oriana understood and picked up the box," Thank you so much, Your Majesty."
Drayce offered her a light nod and said, "This should be enough for at least half decade worth of medicines. The entire plantation in Othinia has been burned and this is what you have left now."
"This is more than enough, Your Majesty. Thank you so much."
"How are you going to carry this much stock?" Yorian asked, his gaze curious, as if trying to see through her.
Oriana was aware how but said, "I have my ways. Do not worry, my Lord."
Yorian didn't ask further but said, "I would like to have some of your time if you don't mind."
"Sure, my Lord. but maybe first I have to go back and see if His Highness…."
"Arlan won't object as long as you are here," Drayce interrupted her and ordered. "You can go with Yorian."
Oriana was aware of their friendship and she didn't dare take Drayce's words lightly. She had no option but to obey.
From his serious tone, Oriana understood it must be something important.
