where did everybody go?

Heaven could count the memories the original Heaven had for her son. Regardless of the handful of memories, she couldn't mistake the child's face. Especially that black hair that looked like hers and those pair of hazel eyes that resembled Dominic's.1

Those pair of eyes which the original Heaven resented the most.

Heaven had a clear idea of what her son looked like, but the reality was truly a different experience. Sebastian Zhu had exceeded her expectation of physical appearance alone. He was more adorable, exuding a natural noble air that one couldn't overlook.

'I was wrong,' was what came through her mind as she held the boy's piercing gaze. 'Dominic doesn't have the most beautiful and attractive eyes.'

It was Sebastian.

Although Sebastian got his father's eye color — the same eye color as the Zhu family — the shape of it wasn't as sharp as Dominic's. They were a little big, almost cute if the innocence in them remained. But alas, there wasn't a shred of innocence or obliviousness in the child's eyes. If anything, the look in his eyes bore the eyes of those raised in an environment where one had to always look over their shoulder.

They were the same as those she (the current Heaven) had in her original life.

"Apologies for waking you up and startling you. It's not my intention to disturb your rest." The child's calm and youthful voice broke the prolonged silence in the room. "I'll reflect on my action."

Sebastian bowed politely, and without any intention of idling, he turned around to leave. But just as he twisted his body a little, he stopped.

"Wait!" Heaven almost bit her tongue as the boy looked back. "What are you… I mean —"

"I heard that my parents will part ways. Do not misunderstand, Madam. I have no intention of interfering with your decision, nor I am here to beg you to stay." The boy glanced at the room where Heaven woke up to. "You might not need my blessing, but do what makes you happy."

"..." Heaven watched her son tilt his head down once again. She knew if she wouldn't do anything, he would leave her all alone.

Sebastian was always like that. Although there was a time this child would come to see his mother on his own, he eventually stopped altogether as years go by. She couldn't even recall when was the last time the original Heaven saw this child!

"Have you…" her breath hitched, forcing her brain to cooperate and function without the need for coffee. ".. had breakfast?"

Sebastian blinked, assessing his mother's strange countenance. "I had some milk on the way home."

"So you haven't?"

"I will ask Miriam to make me one."

"Forget it." Heaven combed her messy hair back as she sighed.

She looked at the boy, only to sigh once again. This wasn't the scenario she had in mind when she thought of meeting her son for the first time. She should have at least a few more days to prepare! How could Dominic leave without telling her there was a change of plans?

Heaven mentally frowned, blaming Dominic for this surprise of her life. However, she couldn't turn back time and neither she could do anything else other than face this situation.

"Here. It's a little late, so I couldn't prepare anything properly." Heaven served a plate of toasted bread, meats, and some spread on the table, as she sat down on the chair. "I'll just make it up for lunch."

Heaven gazed at the child on her right, cupping her jaw nonchalantly. She only had a mug of coffee in front of her, planning to enjoy it as she process the morning she woke up to. If only she knew she wasn't the only person who was having such a morning.

Sebastian didn't eat the breakfast served to him, but rather, simply gazed at it without any emotion.

"Are you not hungry?" she asked while the little master lifted his head. "Mrs. Deng told me you were a picky eater. Should I make another one?"

"Madam, is this a part of your last act of kindness?"

"What?"

"Now that you are leaving this house, are you trying to be nice to me?" Sebastian was direct, making her grateful she hadn't drunk her coffee. "If not, then I do not understand why you are giving me food."

To be honest, Sebastian was already confused ever since she asked him about breakfast. His mother was never been interested in such menial subjects. Thus, he could only conclude about the reason behind her actions.

At this point, Heaven was not surprised. Thankfully, she already accepted what sort of terrible mother she was to her son. The only surprising thing was Sebastian wouldn't hold back with his words.

'His only difference from Dominic is that Sebastian doesn't go around in circles,' she thought, comparing this boy to his father. 'Maybe because no matter how others call him a genius, he is still a child. As a child, he is still curious about most things.'

"Because…" I'm your mother was what she wanted to say, but trailed off upon realizing she was never a mother to him. "... having breakfast alone can be quite lonely."

Sebastian blinked and didn't answer.

'What does that mean?' she wondered, thinking whether his lack of answer meant he agreed with her or he simply chose not to argue. 'I'm not mentally prepared for this.'

A shallow sigh slipped past Heaven's lips while Sebastian started eating what his mother had given him. They were quiet, as he didn't speak another word or even made a sound until the air felt stifling.

'This is more awkward than the first morning I had with his dad.' Heaven sighed once again, snapping her eyes around the dining. Her brows furrowed, realizing she hadn't seen a single servant since they left Dominic's room.

'Now that I think about it… where did everybody go?' Heaven cocked her head to the side. 'Is it everyone's day off?'

Little did she know, there was an uproar just right outside the residence as everyone was already losing their minds at the missing young master.
