Made his mama proud
"Sebastian Zhu. You are in trouble."1
Dominic marched toward the garden table, going straight into where his son was perching. But just as he approached, his steps halted as a figure suddenly turned up in front of him.
"Hubby!" Heaven exclaimed, hands on his chest, eyes a little shaky. "What — what's going on? Why are you home so… early?" — and why did you look so mad?
Dominic's eyes fell on the woman before him. "Did he not tell you?"
"Tell me? About?" Clueless, Heaven cocked her head to the side.
"Ask him." He jerked his chin to the child behind her. "Ask him what he did just now."
Deep lines appeared between her brows as she looked back at Sebastian. As usual, the boy had this unchanging countenance, unbothered by his fuming father.
'Just what did he do to make Dominic angry?' wondered Heaven, remembering that just a day ago, she was curious how to piss off Dominic.
"Just now, everyone is looking for him because he vanished from his room." After several seconds of silence, Dominic took it upon himself that he should summarize what his son had done. "Basti, how can you make everyone worry? You left without a word to your grandma. Do you have any idea how serious this was?"
"Uncle Axel told me to go home to see things for myself, but I didn't want to bother Grandma and Grandpa's vacation. So I left a note." Sebastian slowly faced his father with no fear in his eyes. "Though I am not sure if I closed the window properly."
"Sebastian Zhu."
"Wait. I'm confused!" Heaven cocked her head to the side, still confused.
"Your son." Dominic cast her an icy look. "Ran away from the vacation home. All on his own. Without a word."
"Ahh… okay." Heaven rocked her head in understanding, only to freeze as Dominic's remarks sank in. "What did you say?!"
"If you truly wanted to go home, you could've contacted me." Dominic set his fiery eyes back on his son. "Worrying everyone is not the problem here, but you just put yourself in danger."
"I know my way home."
"Sebastian Zhu."
Heaven flinched when Dominic's voice slightly pitched, gazing back at him with wide eyes. If she wasn't standing between them, just what would he do to his son if it was just the two of them?
"Father, Grandma and Grandpa don't allow me to use the phone." Just like his father, Sebastian didn't show the slightest bit of sign he would back down. "With no means to contact anyone, how can I go home?"
'Err…' Heaven could feel the electric shock clashing between the father and son, making her want to step away to not get caught in the crossfire. But then again, this was her husband and son now. How could she just stand idly like a mannequin?
"Dom." Heaven cleared her throat, tugging his suit slightly to get his attention. "I know you're mad and your feelings are valid. But we can't resolve this issue in anger."
Look who was talking.
She huffed as she forced a smile. "How about I'll try to talk to him, hm? I already got a good grasp of what happened based on the exchange between you two."
"Heaven."
"Dear." She planted her hand on his chest gently, taking the role of a gentle wife, which she had been practicing right after they postponed the divorce. "Can you trust me this once, please?"
His jaw tightened as he secretly clenched his teeth. Another level of annoyance surged in his chest, but the reason behind it was that he just couldn't seem to say no to her.
"Do not coax him, Heaven Liu. He is at fault this time, and should be disciplined," was all Dominic could say as he cast Sebastian a look. "Do not be stubborn and listen to your mother."
As soon as those words rolled out of his tongue, Dominic turned on his heel to walk away. As he did, Heaven heaved a sigh of relief. She watched him leave the garden, telling everyone to follow him and leave Heaven and Sebastian alone.
'Good grief.' Heaven slowly faced Basti's direction as soon as everyone departed the garden.
"Basti." She glided back to her seat, moving the chair closer to her son before lowering her head to look at him. "Is it true you left the vacation home all on your own?"
"Yes. No one would take me home, so I went on my own." Sebastian held his mother's eyes, maintaining his aloof and plain countenance. "Though I understand, I should've made sure to leave the note on the door."
Her lips opened and closed, but her voice was stuck in her throat for a moment. "How did you get home?" she blurted out, amazed that a four-year-old kid was better than her.
Thinking back, there was that time Heaven didn't know how to go home. If not for Axel, Dominic would've had to pick her up in the lost and found section.
"I walked and then rode the bus. I took the earliest ferry ride and then took a taxi." Sebastian was generous in his details. "Taxis can't enter the subdivision freely, so I went over the fence and then walked my way home. It wasn't that hard."
"Wow." Heaven slowly clapped, genuinely in awe of her son's morning adventure. "But why did you need to go over the fence? I mean, you could've told the guards your name and I'm sure they will happily offer a shuttle or escort you home."
"Then, he'd see me."
"Huh?"
"Father will catch me earlier." Sebastian blinked while more question marks hovered over her head.
What did he mean by that?
"If they assumed I was missing or kidnapped, then they surely utilized their connections to find any leads," Sebastian explained in simple terms so his mother could understand his mischief and could scold him properly. "Knowing Father, he surely reached out to the chief of police and the best security agency in the country to find me. I didn't want him to find me, but he still did, despite my discretion. That only means having a flawless plan is flawed itself."
"..."
For a moment, Heaven could only stare at her son. She somehow grasped what he meant, having this idea that Dominic had contacted all the influential people in his contact to help him find his son.
Heaven dealt with people in power in her original life, and thus, the scenarios in her head weren't impossible. Now she understood why everyone in the household left.
Everyone was out to help find the young master Zhu.
"You…" she whispered before a burst of laughter escaped her lips, ruffling his hair playfully. "Gosh! That is so cool! No wonder he's so angry! Hehe! This mama is so proud of you!"
His brows rose at his mother's reaction, puzzled. Why was she so happy instead of scolding him? He could feel the gentleness of her hand on his head and her smile directly warmed up his heart.
Sebastian pressed his lips into a thin line before he gaze down, hiding the blush that suddenly colored his cheek.
