[Bonus chapter]She’s in danger

Heaven's eyes softened, sitting on the edge of the bed. Sebastian didn't seem tired or sleepy, but it only took five minutes before his breathing grew heavy and steady.  0

'Aren't you adorable?' Heaven brushed the stray hair from his forehead with her fingertips. 'He looks so harmless and innocent when sleeping. Now that I think about it, Heaven didn't have a memory like this one. Although she's frustrating, I'm creating memories that are not borrowed anymore.'

No matter how shameless the soul was, there were times her intrusive thoughts would stop her world for a moment. This body, those memories, this boy and that man, and this life… everything she had now was all borrowed from the original Heaven.

None of this was hers.

If the current Heaven was the slightest bit weak-willed, waking up in this body would be challenging. Therefore, experiencing something that the original Heaven didn't have felt refreshing. Although she had done things the original Heaven wouldn't do in Dominic's presence, it felt different with Sebastian.

Being kind to this child and just simply watching him fall asleep was satisfying. She wasn't the one napping, but she felt relaxed.

"How long do I have to wait until you're available to talk?" Dominic's voice suddenly pierced the quiet air, making her look back at the door.

There, Dominic was leaning against the jamb with his arms folded under his chest. He had this stoic expression, making it hard for her to read his mind.

"Right." Heaven cleared her throat and looked back at Sebastian's sleeping figure again. Although she didn't waste any time, she made sure he was properly tucked in. When she was certain her son was in a deep slumber, she carefully slipped away from the bed.

"Hmm?" she hummed as soon as she stood in front of Dominic. "What do you want to talk about?"

Dominic assessed her, glossing his eyes over her from head to toe. "Did he tell you anything?"

"Huh?" Heaven tilted her head to the side, confused. "Is there something he should tell me?"

"About why he did what he did."

"Ahh…" She rocked her head. "Well — ahem."

Heaven took a deliberate pause, clearing her throat as she smacked her lips. "Yes." She mustered the little shame that crept into her heart that came along with the discovery of Sebastian's action this morning.

"I'm sorry," she added under her breath. "It's my fault he is like that. I'll try my best to avoid these things from happening."

"That's not what I meant." A shallow sigh escaped his nostril, unfolding his arms. "I'm just saying… never mind."

"Even if that is not what you meant, apologizing just felt right." Heaven looked back at where her son was sleeping. Her eyes softened the moment her gaze fell on Sebastian. "I feel especially sorry for him. Although I admire his cleverness, how can a child worry about his mother's escape plan? He shouldn't be worrying about such things, and yet, he was."

"Don't take all the blame." Heaven slowly turned her head back to Dominic at the latter's remarks. "I am also his parent. I am always partially at fault for everything he would do and what he would become."

The two of them stared at each other in silence momentarily. They were not as perfect as others thought they were, and they knew that.

"I guess we now have something in common, Dominic Zhu." The side of her lips curled up subtly.

"Finally." He shrugged before chuckling airily.

"You must have been very worried, huh?" Heaven took a step closer to him, studying his face thoroughly. "I've never seen you so pale, even in the face of divorce."

His brows rose when her hand caressed his cheek, watching how her eyes scanned his face as if etching every pore on his face in her mind. Her eyelids drooped as her smile was subtle.

"You might get tired of hearing it, but I'm really sorry, Dominic Zhu. I don't know what sort of parent is considered good, but I'm certain you are doing your best to do what you think is right." Her eyes softened, feeling a little sentimental as she felt even more eager to claim this life and accept everything as hers, including this man and that child. "Most importantly, thank you for holding on to me until a few days ago."

A lump suddenly took place in his throat, speechless at her sentiments. Her last sentence sounded a little strange, but he didn't dwell on it. Dominic only stared at her, catching the hand that was cupping his cheek. Yet, he did nothing, nor did he listen to his instincts.

"Uhm… sir? Didn't you say to cancel your appointments today?" Dane looked back at the back seat as soon as the vehicle sped away from the Zhu mansion's driveway. "What's with the sudden change of heart?"

Dominic remained quiet, eyes on the window on his side. It was true he canceled everything for today, thinking he needed to stay home with his son. What Sebastian did was alarming, considering just a week ago, his son got into a fight. Any parent would be alarmed if they see their child changing gradually.

But why did he call his assistant and asked Dane to fetch him even though Dominic had no other arrangements for the day?

"She's in danger," he murmured, but it still reached his assistant's keen ears.

"What?" Dane furrowed his brows, looking at Dominic with puzzlement. "Who is in danger? The madam?"

As soon as Dane concluded who was the person his boss was talking about was, the alarms in his head went off. "Sir, is there someone threatening her or you? Should I make arrangements and hire a new set of bodyguards to protect the madam and the young master? I can contact the chief of police to investigate who dares threaten the Madam's life."

"I am the danger."

"The nerve of that — what?" Dane gasped, looking at his boss in disbelief.

Dominic still had his eyes on the window, but his mind was drifting to the fresh memory in his mind. He couldn't get rid of that look on Heaven's face, and for some reason, the look she gave him earlier was akin to claiming him as hers.

"She was especially alluring just now," murmured Dominic, having her face stuck in his mind. "It's not good to jump to a conclusion. I might be wrong, after all."

Oh, Dominic Zhu. If only he knew how his wife would welcome him with open arms if he pounced on her, he wouldn't have run away.
