Just playing around

Heaven enthusiastically turned as soon as she reached the ground floor. The moment she arrived at the reception area of the mansion, there were a few servants around. One of them was Miriam, turning her head upon catching a figure from the corner of her eyes.  0

"Young Madam," called Miriam with a smile. "Do you need something?"

Heaven shook her head, approaching Miriam and stopping before the latter. She looked around, only to see that everyone seemed to be doing general cleaning.

"Isn't this a little too late for this?" Heaven wondered with furrowed brows. "Why are you guys changing everything so late?"

"Young Madam, the young master is already home. He can be very sensitive, especially in the morning," Miriam kept her explanation short and simple. "Moreover, it was already the time of the week to change everything. We would've done it this morning, but because of what happened, we postponed it to tonight."

"Oh…" Heaven rocked her head in understanding.

"What about you? Do you need something? I can help."

Heaven waved dismissively. "Don't worry about me, Miriam. I'm just… playing."

"Playing?" That sounded weird. "Young Madam, do you need company?"

"Nope. I'm alright. I just —"

"Heaven Liu."

Heaven nearly bit her tongue when Dominic's voice echoed. Everyone on the ground floor looked up at the mezzanine, only to see Dominic looking over it. His hands were spread on the railing, his hair still dripping with water. But that didn't surprise everyone, but the fact that Dominic was walking around without any top on.

"Master…?" Miriam furrowed her brows, realizing Dominic was very unkept at the moment. She was Dominic's nanny since he was eight. Therefore, she knew how organized the master was. Dominic, even in the comforts of their home, always appeared proper.

This was the first he got out of his bedroom with no shirt on.

"Come up here." Ignoring all the people on the ground floor, Dominic had his eyes fixed on his mischievous wife. "I'm telling you. Don't make me come down there."

Miriam and the servants furrowed their brows, instinctively moving their attention to Heaven. Much to their surprise, Heaven was unfazed by Dominic's authoritative warning.

"No way in nine hells!" Heaven stuck her tongue out, pulling down her under-eye like a kid.

"Hah…" Dominic sneered, studying her playful expression. "You will regret teasing me like this."

Dominic pushed himself from the railings, heading to the stairs. Even though he didn't have any top on, he didn't find any shame in walking around with his bare chest, displaying his perfectly healthy body and abs. It was true Dominic always kept himself tidy and proper, but that was because of a different reason.

"Master…" Miriam trailed off when Heaven suddenly ran past her, creating an inner breeze that blew past her hair. Miriam looked back, only to see Heaven go in the kitchen's direction. 'Is this what she meant by playing?'

"That woman. She'll regret this when I catch her."

Miriam's breath hitched when another figure walked past her. She only caught Dominic's side profile, catching the cunning smirk on his face.

'Master?' Miriam blinked, doubting her eyes. Her gaze followed Dominic's figure, heading to where Heaven went to.

"Are they playing a cat-and-mouse game?" a servant blurted out under his breath, not even realizing he spoke.

So Miriam didn't see it wrong, huh?

Miriam blinked a few times as she set her attention to where Heaven and Dominic disappeared into. A slight worry flickered in her eyes before a subtle smile turned up on her face.

"Well, I guess it's part of married life." Miriam faced the servants, smiling. "Let's hurry and finish this."

The kitchen was surprisingly busy at this hour, with the chef and his assistant coming up with a new recipe. While they were focusing on the kitchen, the head chef caught a shadow from the corner of his eye. When he turned around, he furrowed his brows.

"Did you see someone just now?" asked the head chef to his assistant. The latter cast the head chef a look and shook his head.

"Who, Chef?"

"Uh… never mind." The head chef shook his head before ordering him, "Garnish the plates now. So others can test it."

"Yes, Chef." The sous chef went to the counter to execute his task. But just as he stood in front of the counter, the sous chef cocked his head to the side. "Chef, I think there's a missing plate."

"Huh?" the head chef walked to his assistant's side, only to confirm the latter wasn't lying. "It was just here…"

"Where is she?"

The head chef and the sous chef slowly raised their heads, only to see their employer enter the kitchen. Although surprised to see Dominic walking around without any top, what baffled them was his inquiry.

"She?" the sous chef, confused. "Are you looking for Mrs. Deng or Miriam, Master?"

Dominic frowned. "My wife. She went here."

"The young madam didn't come here, Master," answered the sous chef, only to look at the head chef upon remembering the head chef's inquiry moments ago. "Chef, didn't you say you saw someone?"

"Mhm. But I didn't get to see who it was because the person was so fast." The head chef held Dominic's gaze to prove he wasn't lying. "Master, I'm sorry, but I'm not sure that was the young madam…"

"Chef, this dish is superb. Please teach me how to make it next time!" Suddenly, Heaven's voice reached their ears.

The three of them — the head chef, the sous chef, and Dominic — turned their heads in the voice's direction. There, at the other entrance of the kitchen that was leading to the greenhouse, was Heaven. She was holding a plate in her hand while munching the food that was yet garnished.

"The missing plate…" the sous chef trailed off when Dominic stormed off while Heaven dashed off. "... huh?"

The sous chef looked at the head chef, confused. "Chef, what just happened?"

"I… have no idea." the head chef shook his head, eyes stuck on where Dominic disappeared to. "But what I am certain is that we're missing a plate and the young madam liked this new recipe."
