Home sick
Dominic was never late for work. Dane Zhang could attest to that. It was the reason everyone around the CEO of Lyon Group treated time with much value. Be it employees working directly under the CEO's command or affiliates were aware of Dominic's golden rule about punctuality.1
That was why Dane was in utter disbelief when he came to fetch his boss, only to hear from the servant in the mansion that the master was still in the shower. It was weird, as if he heard the biggest lie this year. Dane wouldn't believe it if he didn't have to wait for an entire hour for his boss to come down.
Dane peeked at the back seat with narrowed eyes, only to see his boss staring at the window, smiling.
'He's smiling.'Dane's already squinting eyes squinted even more until they appeared like a mere line. 'Is what I heard true?'
While waiting for Dominic, Dane chatted with a few servants. According to them, there was something strange that was happening in the manor. When he asked what it was, they told him last night, the master was chasing the young madam. But the surprise didn't stop there as the servants told him the two even stayed on the roof deck till morning.
No one knew what they were doing.
It would be easy to guess what could happen between married couples all night, but this was Dominic and Heaven. Jumping to a conclusion was stupid. After all, that would be too much progress.
"Ahem!" Dane cleared his throat, watching Dominic set his eyes on where he was. "Sir, you seem to be in a good mood."
"Because I am." Dominic blinked, maintaining his poker face. But for someone who spent many years with him, Dane was certain it wasn't the usual poker face. "Did you cancel my meeting at eight?"
"I cleared your schedule all morning." Dane frowned, reminded of how many times he tweaked Dominic's schedule this week. Dominic had worked nonstop for years, but canceling his meetings and appointments was a bother, especially if it was abrupt.
"Sir, you've been requesting to change your schedule these past few days. But I don't understand why you didn't get up early today. Your meeting this morning was very important. You've been preparing for this meeting for months, so I'm a little confused why you forgot about it," Dane expressed. Being open to his boss was always better than concluding on his own.
It was part of Dane's job to understand his boss. That was why he was never afraid to ask his boss about anything.
"I overslept." Dominic shrugged indifferently, propping his elbow against the window as he rested his jaw on his knuckles, eyes on the window. "I know it was an important meeting, but at the same time, sleep is also important."
Yeah, right?
"I couldn't sleep last night, and only closed my eyes when it was already morning," added Dominic with the same languid tone. "I'd rather postpone an important meeting than screw things up."
Wasn't that the same thing?!
Dane couldn't count how many unfamiliar terms his boss had said in those sentences. Sleep was important? For normal people, it was! But Dominic was akin to a beast — an immortal being that such mortal dilemmas barely affected him. Moreover, did Dominic just mention screwing up a meeting?
Was that even possible?
For the record, the Lyon Group was already at the top of the industry before Dominic took charge. However, Dominic's leadership took the business to another different level. They ventured into many fields, succeeding in most of them.
So, what was Dominic even saying about screwing things up? Not showing was already screwing things up! Was he sick or something?
"Though… a different screwing was fun." The corner of Dominic's lips hooked up at the thought of last night's occurrence.
"What?" Dane furrowed his brows. "Sir, did you say something?"
Dominic didn't answer anymore, keeping his focus on the side road. Last night, his fear of having just a dream deterred him from sleeping. But waking up beside her and catching the hickeys on her neck proved it wasn't a dream.
They really did it last night… and even this morning.
"How can she have so much energy in the morning?" he mumbled to himself, keeping his voice audible to his ears only.
Another reason it took him a while to get out of the bedroom was that he stayed for a spicy round of passion. Thankfully, she didn't try hard to make him stay, understanding Dominic had a lot of work to do. Or rather, she understood that if he stayed, she would be paralyzed for the entire day or two, as they would just come up with more reasons to stay naked.
She might not recover.
'I wonder if she slept some more or is already awake,' he wondered, thinking about what she could be doing at this moment. 'I want to go home.'
Back then, Dominic wouldn't even think of going home. He knew once he goes out of the house, it might take him days before coming back and he had no problem with that. It was already a pattern everyone had grown used to.
But now, it hadn't been thirty minutes since he left home, but he already wanted to go back.
*******
Meanwhile, in the Zhu Mansion, Heaven finally got the strength to drag her body out of bed. Her clothes were scattered on the floor. Thanks to Dominic, who simply tossed them without a care.
Dragging her body to the bathroom with the blanket around her body, she stood in front of the full-body mirror.
The blanket fell to her feet, eyes on her reflection.
"That heartless beast." Heaven clicked her tongue in irritation at the sight of her body. Red marks and even bite marks could be seen across her body. If one saw her body, one would think she was beaten badly.
"Even I feel bad for my body." She sighed, dragging her worn-out body to the tub to soothe her sore legs and flower. "Did he want me to cover my entire body? Just what would our son think if he sees these hickeys? He might mistake them as bruises."
Heaven grumbled on and on, deciding to cover her body so their precious little son wouldn't misunderstand. Her frown deepened as soon as she dipped her body in the tub, remembering she promised Sebastian to make him breakfast. However, how could she?! If not for her strong will, she wouldn't even have the strength to get up. Let alone make breakfast.
"I'll probably get used to it the more we do it," she encouraged, nodding in agreement. "Though this leaves me one important realization."
Heaven leaned her back against the curve of the tub, cocking her head back. "This body is a little weak and is easily exhausted. I need to grow my stamina or else my skills would be put to waste."
