[Bonus chapter]What goes around comes around

Sebastian had a realization throughout their time in the bakeshop. He didn't know his mother that well. Growing up, he could barely see a glimpse of her, as she was often locked inside her room. The times he had snuck inside, Heaven would just glare at him before shouting for Miriam.1

Heaven would then look away from him as she ordered Miriam to take him out of her room.  Her cold treatment wasn't what stuck to him nor the growing repugnance in her eyes, but rather it was the meals on her bedside table.

Sebastian used to sneak inside her room and every time, aside from the usual glares and cold shoulders from her, what was always there was her untouched meal.

Heaven rarely touched her meals. Even when he stopped sneaking inside her room, he would watch Miriam leave his mother's bedroom with a tray in her hands, carrying an almost untouched meal. If she would eat it, it was probably a bite or two.

Therefore, it was surprising to see her gobble up desserts like a monster. She was already being modest as we speak.

Sebastian glanced at their table again with a full stomach. 'I was wrong,'he thought, glancing at his mother, who was enjoying another piece of tart.

Moments ago, he was concerned about the desserts occupying their table. But it seemed he got worried about nothing. He only had an egg pie and the tart, but even that was a surprise to him as well. Meanwhile, Heaven gobbled up everything like a glutton. All she needed was his confirmation that he didn't want it, and she wouldn't hesitate to eat it.

"Hah…!" Heaven hissed in satisfaction after gulping an entire glass of juice in one go. "That hit the spot!"

"I didn't know you're a glutton." She snapped her eyes back to the boy across from her after his remarks. "You almost finished everything."

"Hehe. I have a sweet tooth." Heaven giddily curved her back to have the same eye level. "Did you like it?"

"Mhm." Sebastian nodded without a second hesitation. "I like them."

"Great! Now we have a basis for what a good tart and egg pie is. This will be the standard taste once I start learning to bake."

"Oh… good."

"Should we do it together?"

"You mean baking?"

"Mhm, but only if you want to." She shrugged. "Anyway, let's rest for a bit. I can't seem to move from this seat."

"Considering the amount of sweets you ate, I will be more surprised if you can."

Heaven chuckled as she assessed her son. Surely, Sebastian was Dominic's son. The way he spoke sometimes resembled his dad, but with a much more adorable tone.

"I went around the mall the last time I got here," she spoke, repeating the words she already told him. "I found this interesting slime-themed funhouse. Should we go there?"

"A slime-themed playground?" Sebastian cocked his head to the side. "Should we go somewhere else?"

"Where do you want to go?"

"I don't know, but not a playground."

"Why?"

"Because I don't want to deal with a bunch of kids."

"..."

'You are a kid yourself!' was what she nearly spewed out, but bit her tongue to stop herself.

"Are you sure?" Heaven frowned slightly.

If he didn't want to, then she wouldn't force him. But at the same time, that would lessen the long list of activities in her mind. Heaven's mission wasn't just to bond with her son and make a proper connection with him, but to make sure his childhood was a happy one. Although his mother gave him enough trauma, she hoped creating more good memories with him would be too much that his trauma had no more room in his heart and mind.

"Do you want to go there?" he asked, seeing how dejected she looked. As soon as he asked that, her face brightened up.

"Yes!" Heaven asserted. "Hundred percent. We should go there, but if you don't want, we can go to other places."

"Like?"

"Watch a movie? Shopping? Maybe go to another restaurant and eat?"

"Let's just go to the playground." Sebastian didn't even think twice upon hearing the other plans she had in mind. If he disliked playgrounds, those other things were too tiring to even think about. Especially the last one.

How could she think of eating again just right after they finished pigging out?

"Are you sure?" Heaven furrowed her brows. "Basti, you don't have to force yourself if you don't want to —"

"I want to try." Sebastian cut her off with a poker face. "Father and I didn't have a good impression of playgrounds, but maybe he was the problem."

"..." Her mouth opened and closed like a fish, but her voice was stuck in her throat.

Heaven glanced up for a moment, imagining Dominic and Sebastian in a playground. Considering their personality, she was certain those two just sat on the bench with their legs crossed, eyes judging everything around them.

'My gosh!'she mentally winced at the scene playing in her head. 'I can imagine how many people they scared off with just their aura alone.'

A deep exhale escaped her nostrils, finding the right words to say her remarks. But just before she could open her lips, a person suddenly appeared beside their table.

"Excuse me, Miss?" Heaven and Sebastian turned their heads, only to see a woman wearing the server's uniform. "Our manager told me to hand this to you as an appreciation for what happened last time and also an apology."

The woman handed them a box of cookies, smiling warmly at Heaven.

"We're glad to see you again in the establishment, Miss." She bowed before excusing herself after completing her task. But just before she could leave, Heaven stopped her.

"Tell the manager she didn't have to, but I appreciate this gift," said Heaven with a smile. "And it's not Miss, but Missus."

The woman's brows rose, darting her eyes between the two. She assumed they were aunties and nephews.

"I'm sorry, ma'am." the staff bowed again, but Heaven just waved dismissively.

"It's fine, it's fine. No worries, and thank you for the gift."

The woman pressed her lips and nodded. This time, no one stopped her from leaving their table.

"What about last time?" asked Sebastian, curious. "Did something happen?"

"Well, something happened, but it's not a pleasing memory to remember. It's not that important as well. Let's just say it's the classic plot of what goes around, comes around." Heaven grinned. "Anyway, shall we go?"

"You must have done something good then — alright."
