[Bonus chapter]The feeling is mutual
Heaven didn't have the heart to argue because he looked so happy to help out. She let it slide, letting him assist her without thinking of the poor head chef.0
What did he say this morning? That if she kept taking over the kitchen, the chef might lose his job. But here he was, stealing the head chef's job in assisting her.
Not a big deal, was what she told herself.
This was not worth her energy because she had a lot of things to do ahead of her. First, she had to make a decent meal for her husband and son.
Heaven took a spoon, scooped a small portion from the pot, and tasted it. She licked her lips, rocking her head in satisfaction.
"Do you want to have a taste?" she asked, facing Dominic squarely.
Dominic was just idling near her. His hands on the counter placed on either side of him while his back was propped against the counter.
"Hmm?" he tilted his head to the side, glancing at the spoon in her hand. "Sure."
Dominic pushed himself away from the counter, taking a step until he was standing beside her. But before she could scoop out a portion of the dish, Dominic held her arm away. When she looked at him on instinct, he cupped her face and tilted his head down.
Dominic licked her lips before sliding his tongue between her lips. Her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, frozen on the spot.
"Hmm…" he pondered, drawing his head back. "It's good."
Heaven looked at him with parted lips, rendered speechless. Did she transmigrate into a romance book instead? For all she knew, this life was supposed to be bitter! Although she had planned on making it a bit sweeter, this was too sweet!
But then again, she had a sweet tooth.
"Gosh." She spoke through her nose, looking away as her cheek felt hot. "Can you even get a proper taste of it that way?"
"You want to try?"
Heaven looked at him, almost glaring. "Dominic Zhu, behave yourself, will you? We're not inside our room and anyone can come in."
"So?"
"What do you mean, so?"
"Even if someone comes in here and sees us kissing or making out, what's there to be worried about?" Dominic blinked with genuine wonder in his tone. "This is my house and I can do what I want."
"Wow…"
"Even if I take you on in the living area, it shouldn't be a case," he continued in a knowing tone. "Every single one in here was trained to be deaf, mute, and blind if necessary. Moreover, we're a married couple. So, I don't see any problem with that."
Really…
Heaven was speechless, unable to argue with him. Of course, she knew that everyone in this mansion was bound by a strict contract. Everything that would happen within the mansion stayed in the mansion. Wasn't that the reason, despite their previously crumbling marriage, not a word about it was heard outside?
"Gosh. Why did I suddenly feel embarrassed with how you worded your sentence?" she forced her words out, shaking her head while holding his gaze. Heaven raised a finger, sporting a fierce look.
"Dominic Zhu, even if that is the case, you shouldn't do that. There's a child in this house and the last thing I want is for him to catch us in such a state," she nagged. "Don't get any idea."
Dominic's eyes slid to the corner. "Sure."
"Dominic, look at me." Heaven squinted her eyes suspiciously. "Promise me you won't do that."
"I won't," he asserted as soon as he faced her, but kept the rest of his sentence in his mind. 'as long as Basti is around.'
"Tsk." Heaven clicked her tongue and shook her head, refocusing her attention on the dish she was making.
'How can Heaven be so useless when it comes to her husband and son?'she mentally lamented. 'How can she not know her husband was the biggest flirt? But then, how would she? Dominic wouldn't even graze his wife in the past five years. They wouldn't even meet for months, despite living under the same roof.'
A sigh slipped past her lips, telling herself the original Heaven wasn't to blame. Things happened and there was no point in dwelling on them. She should learn from Dominic and Sebastian. Just like them, Heaven should move on and not dwell in the past.
With that thought in mind, Heaven had some peace of mind. The smile on her face returned as she waited for the food to simmer.
"This will take five minutes," she announced, cocking her head back, eyes on the man beside her. "Don't you have anything else to do?"
"Nothing." Dominic folded his arms and shrugged. "Dane will fetch me in a few hours."
"What?" Heaven furrowed her brows. If she calculated correctly, it had only been an hour since she got out of bed. Adding the cooking time, it was probably less than two hours.
He shrugged again. "My schedule was a mess because of the countless adjustments."
"You're telling me…?"
"I have plenty of time to spare," he said in a knowing tone. "So, no rush."
"…" She was speechless for a moment. "You should've told me earlier."
"Why?"
"I could've stayed in bed for an extra hour."
"But I told you to rest more."
"Whatever." Heaven sighed, looking away from him. "You won't understand, since you don't know how long it takes to prepare a meal. It takes time and with that fact, I should get up early so you won't get late for work."
Heaven kept ranting on and on under her breath until huge hands snaked around her waist. His chest pressed on her back, giving her a back hug.
"That's why I'm telling you didn't have to make breakfast," he said, resting his chin on her shoulder. "It's better for you to complete your sleep. I'd be more at ease if you do."
She glanced over her shoulder at where his head was. "You don't understand, do you?"
"I do." He smiled, pulling her closer. "Thank you for working hard and taking care of us, my wife."
Heaven pressed her lips into a thin line, keeping her eyes on him. She breathed in relief, all frustrations gone.
"Is this your plan to spend your spare time?" she asked, changing the subject.
"It's not pre-planned, but I suddenly had the urge to try this back hug."
"Why?"
"To see if you will like it?"
She bit her bottom lip. "I have soft spots for sweet things. I like it."
"The feeling is mutual." He smiled in satisfaction, holding her securely as they waited for the dish to simmer.
Little did they know, Sebastian was standing by the entrance, glaring daggers at his father's back.
