Something he was proud of

After Heaven washed up, she went back to Sebastian's bedroom. Dominic already left. According to Miriam, Dominic was already in his study, working. She didn't want to disturb him, so she didn't check on him and just went to watch her son.  0

'Just look at his face.' Heaven sighed for the umpteenth time, sitting on the armchair beside her son's bed. 'My poor baby. I really feel bad for him. If only I knew this would happen, I would've beaten her in the morning.'

Her frown continued to deepen, shrugging her thoughts away. 'Trust your husband. Right. I'm not the only one who makes decisions now. Compared to me, who only know how to put justice in my hands, Dominic was more… experienced in this side of the world.'

Heaven nodded, convinced by her thoughts. Even though only the worse could happen to that family, she had to be okay with not hurting them more. There was no need to sully her hands, even though snapping their necks was far too easy for her.

'Happy thoughts! Happy thoughts!' Heaven cringed at the violent thoughts slowly occupying her head. 'Don't fantasize about torturing them — that's still a child!'

"I never thought a child could make me so angry like this," she murmured with another sigh. "Seriously. How can a parent teach their son like that? I'm hardly the person to say much about parenting, but anyone could tell it's just plain twisted."

'But then again, I sort of understand that woman,'Heaven continued in her mind. 'I'd prefer my son hurting another instead of him getting beaten up.'

Twisted as it may sound, Heaven felt no shame in having such thoughts. Of course, it was much better if Sebastian grew up into a fine young man who wouldn't abuse his power. But in instances like this, she wanted her son to fight back.

Surely, being a parent was no joke.

Praise to all parents.

Heaven's brows rose when Sebastian moaned faintly. She instantly moved forward when his eyes slowly opened.

"Pumpkin," she called soothingly, moving from the armchair to the edge of the bed. "Are you hurt anywhere? Thirsty? Hungry? What do you want, hmm?"

Sebastian blinked ever so tenderly. When his father left his room, Sebastian took a nap because he was tired and not because he was in pain.

"Don't get up, baby. You should rest some more." Heaven patted his shoulders gently to stop him from sitting up. "What do you want, hmm?"

He gazed at his mother, detecting the worry in her eyes. His father was right. In his attempt to avoid his mother's scolding, the results of his actions only made her sad and worried. He felt guilty.

"Mommy, I'm fine," he reassured quietly. "I only want Mom to stay by my side."

Heaven's eyes softened, stroking his hair. "You don't have to ask. I'll stay by your side, always."

"Basti," she called under her breath, smacking her lips. "I'm sorry. Because of me, your classmates were picking on you. Saying I didn't know my actions back then will hurt you is an excuse. So, I can only apologize."

"It's fine, Mom."

"No, it's not." Heaven shook her head mildly.

Sebastian pressed his lips, realizing no matter how he would say it was fine, Heaven would stubbornly blame herself. His guilt deepened, believing his mother would continue to feel sorry for him if he wouldn't do anything.

"Mommy," he called, sporting a smile. "Back then, my classmates wouldn't even approach me. But earlier today, all my classmates went to me and praised my snacks. They said it was so pretty."

Sebastian didn't like his classmates' snack-gazing, but his words contrasted what he believed. "They said my mommy is cool and even defended me from Yun's accusation… some even said they want their mommies to be as good at making snacks as you. But what really made me happy is that I can now say 'My mommy made it for me.'"

To be fair, he sort of liked the idea of competing with another child of who got the prettier, smarter, and better mom.

"Basti." Heaven bit her bottom lip, almost tearing up hearing her son's remarks. "My baby."

"Thank you for making me snacks, Mom." His lips stretched broader. "Don't be sad anymore."

How could she not?!

Heaven squeezed herself beside him, lying on his side while hugging him. "My baby, why are you so precious?"

"Mommy, are you crying?" he frowned as he turned his head, seeing that a tear rolled across her nose bridge. Making her cry wasn't his intention! All he wanted was to make her feel better, but it seemed it had the opposite effect.

"No, no. I'm just… happy," she denied, smiling as she sniffed hard. "I'm glad that you are my child."

His cheek turned pinkish, flattered at how sincere those words sounded.

"Rest some more, baby. It's okay if Mommy stays here, right?" she changed the subject, sporting a wide smile not to worry him.

"Mhm." Sebastian rolled to his side, hugging her back. "Thanks for getting cured, Mommy. Don't get sick anymore."

"Mm. I won't." She gazed down softly, stroking his hair as she lulled him to sleep. "I will not get sick anymore, so I can take care of Basti."

A satisfied smile appeared on his face, pleased at his mother's promise. Meanwhile, as she lulled him back to sleep, another sigh slipped past her lips.

Ever since meeting Sebastian, tears would just be too easy to flow in her eyes. It was almost like magic. After all, she was used to burying her comrades and people. There was a time she had to do a mass funeral because she lost a lot of people in a war against a certain devil.

She didn't cry back then.

If her memory served right, the last time she cried was when she held a funeral for her mother. Since then, tears had never appeared in her eyes, even if forced herself to. But now, because of this child, tears would just appear in her eyes without even trying.

'I might've not experienced pregnancy and giving birth to him, but this child…' Heaven closed her eyes to rest, smiling. 'God, I love him.'
