[Bonus chapter]What could last a lifetime
"I did something horrible… I forgot to wear protection."1
Heaven's brows slowly rose, assessing Dominic's countenance. She didn't understand his panic immediately, caught up with the guilt dominating his eyes.
Why was he so scared?
Anyone who knew Dominic personally wouldn't imagine that something like this would terrify him. Matter of fact, no one would think the man had his own fears. That was how strong Dominic's image had in front of others.
That was why… she didn't get it immediately.
"Really?" was all Heaven responded, watching him sigh as he planted his hands on either side of her.
Dominic bent over, sighing deeply. No wonder it felt especially good, as they had done it raw. No wonder he felt the soft texture of her walls, her heat wrapped around him, and even if he slowed down, the friction continuously turned him on.
Ever since tangling himself with such marital duties, Dominic never forgot to wear protection. They had a box of supplies in the master bedroom, after all. Others who knew nothing about their marriage would think it was weird for them to worry about protection. They were married.
Sebastian was now four and thus, it wouldn't be surprising if they would proceed with a second pregnancy. But alas, their marriage wasn't built just like other marriages. It hadn't been that long since hope shone upon this marriage. But he messed up.
'We only did it once before, but she immediately got pregnant.' Dominic closed his eyes in distress, feeling his head throb at the thought. 'What should we do now?'
Dominic didn't fear having another kid, but what scared him was how this would affect Heaven. He slowly raised his head to see what sort of expression she had. Much to his surprise, Heaven simply had her brows furrowed while staring back at him.
"I'm sorry," he breathed out, pushing himself away from the desk to zip up. "I'll buy you an after-pill. My bad. This won't happen again."
Dominic took a step away to pick up her clothes, only to stop when a hand held his arm. He looked back, only to see Heaven looking at him with genuine wonder in her eyes.
"Don't apologize. It's fine," she reassured softly, raising her other hand to cup his face. "This look on your face bothers me a lot. I'm not mad if that's what you're concerned about."
"Heaven." He sighed. "You do understand how easy for us to get —"
"I know, but so what?" Heaven frowned slightly. "Aren't we married?"
Dominic creased his brows, studying the resolute gleam in her eyes. They were married, but still, were they ready? Was she ready for the consequences? Whether they admit it or not, her first pregnancy traumatized him. Not because he got to be a father after unprotected sex, but the effect it had on her.
What was she saying now?
What was this reaction?
Or better yet, what sort of reaction was he expecting from her? Would it be better if she got furious?
"Just take a morning after pill," he muttered. "Just to be safe."
"Why?"
"Why not?"
Her frown deepened. "Dominic Zhu, can you hear yourself? You're hurting my feelings."
"That's not what I meant, but—" he huffed once again, brushing his hair back. "Heaven, I don't think you are physically and emotionally ready. It hasn't been long since…"
Dominic couldn't finish his sentence as sadness peeked through her beautiful eyes. Was he wrong? All he was trying to do was to prevent a 'problem' from arising, knowing full well she wasn't ready for that. Moreover, they hadn't talked about this matter properly.
"How are you certain that I wasn't ready?" Heaven snapped her tongue faintly, a little disappointed by his reaction. "Dominic Zhu, I don't think you were thinking of me, but yourself. It was not me who was scared, but you."
She shook her head a little and then jumped off the desk, standing before him. "Don't decide for me, Dom. I know your intentions were nothing but good, but it's disappointing to see you like that right after fucking me. I'm upset if that isn't clear yet."
After fearlessly speaking her mind, Heaven turned on her heel to pick up her clothes. She understood him deep in her heart, and she knew he didn't mean to offend her. Dominic was just thinking of her. However, despite those facts laid out, it was still upsetting.
As Heaven picked up the last piece of clothes on the floor, she felt a pair of arms wrapped around her from behind. She glanced over her shoulder, seeing him resting his forehead on it.
"I'm sorry," he expressed quietly.
Dominic tightened his embrace, pulling her closer to him. "Don't go."
Heaven bit her bottom lip the moment she heard his pleading. She clutched the clothes in her arms, lowering her head in silence.
"Are you apologizing just so we don't fight anymore? Or were you apologizing because you understand me?" she inquired. "What are you saying sorry for, Dominic Zhu?"
"I am sorry for hurting your feelings and for deciding for you." Dominic carefully spun her around until she was facing him. He cupped her cheek, studying the look in her eyes. "You're right. It was not you, but it was me who was scared of the consequences. I'm sorry if I made you feel like all I want is pleasure without regard for the consequences."
"Please believe me that my fears don't stem from that." His eyelashes drooped, trying to conceal the thousand unspoken words swirling in his eyes. "Just the thought that you'd go back to how you were terrified me beyond words, Heaven. I am terrified that this… will push you back to misery."
"There were tons of unanswered questions in my head that I am unwilling to entertain. But, it hadn't been long since you accepted me and Basti," he continued with sincerity in his voice. "So I was careful not to make you sad again. I'm not perfect and sometimes, I get a bit clumsy. But please bear with me because everything is new for me as well, and I didn't want to ruin what could last a lifetime."
