149: A strange turn

A strange turn

The day went by in a blur. Heaven could only remember anything remarkable in the entire day, using every minute to kill time until Sebastian got home and Dominic a few hours later. Heaven went to the cellar one last time before Sebastian arrived home at four in the afternoon.  1

As usual, Heaven fawned over her son, tending to his needs and asking him about his day. The time didn't feel that long when Sebastian was around and before they knew it, they were already having dinner with Dominic. 

There was nothing out of the ordinary; everyone went by their day like usual except one person. 

Andrea. 

Dominic sat on the bed beside Heaven, slipping under the blanket. He turned his head to his wife, who was already lying on the other side of the bed, facing him. 

"You seemed to be in a good mood," he pointed out, dragging his bottom until his back was resting against the headboard. 

Heaven grinned, pulling the blanket over her shoulder. "Is it that obvious?"

"Hmm." Dominic picked up a book on the bedside table, then faced her once again. "How was your day? Did something happen?"

"Well." Heaven smacked her lips as she pondered for a moment. "You can say I just felt productive."

His brow arched, intrigued. "Want to talk about it?"

"It's nothing much. I purchased a set of computers and then helped Bear in the greenhouse?"

"Bear?" Dominic cocked his head to the side. "I thought you disliked him."

"I never said that."

"You never said, but you've been ignoring him since he got in here."

"Am I required to babysit him?" 

"That's not what I meant, but never mind." Dominic shrugged, not dwelling on the topic since it wasn't important. "What's your opinion about him, then?"

"He's not as bad as I thought. To be fair, he is quite tolerable — maybe because he's old and mature."

Dominic rocked his head in understanding. 

"I also bought a new computer — in case you didn't know."

"I see."

"Won't you ask me what's it for?"

Dominic blinked. "What is it for?"

"Did you just ask me because you thought you have to?" Heaven pouted, making him chuckle. 

"Didn't you say you're a luxurious wife?" he humored, massaging her head gently. "As a luxurious wife means you can buy anything out of impulse, am I correct?"

"Hehe." Heaven's cheek turned pinkish, giggling. "You make me feel bad."

"Please think of our budget, Heaven Liu."

A burst of laughter echoed in the room after his attempt to show he cared about her small purchase. Meanwhile, Dominic sighed, but his expression was soft. Not that he didn't care what Heaven would do with her money, but he didn't feel the need to question everything. 

"Where did you set it up?" he asked. 

"In my previous room."

"Don't you want to move it to the study?"

"Huh?"

Dominic shrugged. "If you're going to use it for work, it's better if you set it up in the study."

"Well, to be fair, I bought it out of impulse. My laptop is too laggy and slow. I haven't thought of using it for other purposes just yet." Heaven smiled, giving him a part of the truth about why she bought the computer set. 

Though she had thoughts of using her skills to her advantage in the future, it would be better to keep it to a place people rarely go. Moreover, she realized she had other skills that didn't require hitting the gym. 

"Whatever makes you happy. I'm just giving you an option." Dominic shrugged, still massaging her scalp with his fingertips. "You should rest. You look a bit tired."

"How about you?"

"I'll read for a bit."

Heaven blinked, watching him set his focus on the open book. He was holding the book with one hand, his thumb in between the pages.

'His face is the first thing I see in the morning and the last person at the end of the day. But, I just can't get enough of him. My husband is really handsome.' Heaven kept her gaze on Dominic's side profile, blinking heavily as she felt a little drowsy with Dominic's fingers massaging her scalp. 'So relaxing.'

Her eyes felt heavy and her blinking grew slower. In no time, Heaven fell into sleep. As soon as she did, Dominic turned his head to her and smiled.

'She looks tired,' he thought, noticing her exhaustion since he came home a few hours ago. 'Did she overdo it in the gym again?'

Heaven looked especially tired today. If she wasn't, Heaven would've saddled him or seduced him. However, she didn't. Not that that upset him. If anything, he already planned to give her some rest. After all, they had been very active.

"Good night." Dominic bent over, planting a kiss on her temple. "Rest well, darling."

The corner of his lips curled up into a satisfied smile, staring at her sleeping face. His eyes softened even more, putting the book away as he changed his mind. He would rather use this time to cradle her in his arms, just like what he had been thinking about the entire day.

Meanwhile…

At a time like this, the Zhu Mansion was especially quiet, that someone would think no one lived in this place. All the servants resigned to their beds, and all the people who were awake at this hour were some guards at the mansion's gate and Bear. 

It was strange that Dominic didn't keep even one bodyguard in the house except for Bear. However, considering the subdivision was highly secured, this place was the safest. Moreover, Dominic was not a criminal who needed to keep his one eye open while sleeping. 

Used to staying awake and being more alert at night, Bear decided to do his last round. He wanted to resolve the problem in the greenhouse as well. Thus, he decided to check the greenhouse and stay there to catch the person stealing the crops. 

'It's definitely a strange turn in my life,' Bear thought, walking soundlessly through the corridor leading to the greenhouse. 'I never thought I will ever watch out for a crop thief.' 

Back then… Bear didn't want to recall the reasons that would keep him awake in the middle of the night. His steps slowed down until he stopped, turning his head at the door leading to the wine cellar.
