[Bonus chapter]Scarecrow

The police immediately came for help, investigating what triggered the alarm. In the end, the management announced it was a fault in the system. Some were relieved, while others demanded official statements on the consequences.  2

After all, the emergency alarm brought forth fear and could have left trauma to their residents. Everyone who lived in this building was well-off. Thus, things could be very problematic if the management didn't take proper action. Still, they focused on calming their residents first.

"So it's just a fault in the security system?" Paula huffed, patting her chest in relief. "I thought it was some sort of terrorist attack."

"I don't think that will happen, dear." Paula looked up when Primo rested his arms across her shoulders, pulling her closer to him. "This area is the nearest place to everything that includes the police. Did that scare you, though?"

Paula pressed her lips into a thin line, blushing at his affectionate touch. "A bit, but knowing you are here, I feel a little less scared."

Primo's smile stretched broader, squeezing her shoulder blade slightly. When he glanced at Heaven, his brow arched upon noticing Heaven was a bit distracted.

"Madam." Heaven snapped her eyes up when Bear turned up in front of her. "Are you alright?"

"I wasn't inside," she replied nonchalantly, catching more bodyguards approaching her.

"Madam, are you okay?" asked a few bodyguards in unison while the rest simply gazed at her worriedly, checking her from up and down to make sure she didn't get hurt during the panic.

"Yes," Heaven breathed out. "As you can see, I am alright. I wasn't even inside the building when the alarm went off."

Heaven glanced at Bear but said nothing. She then scanned everyone's faces, sighing.

"Assist the staff and see if there's anything you can do," she ordered just so they leave her sight. "Things will recover immediately if there were more manpower."

"Yes, Madam!"

Her face twitched at the bodyguards' enthusiasm, watching them disperse to offer help in whatever they could. Only Bear and a few bodyguards didn't leave Heaven, keeping a safe distance from her, since she was still their priority.

"What are you still doing here?" she asked Bear since the old man stood almost within her reach.

"My main priority is your safety," answered Bear monotonously. "The rest can assist the staff, but my duty is to stay by your side."

Her lips parted to refute his remarks, but she ended up zipping her lips shut. There was no point, and Bear made sense. The management was already receiving a lot of help from the police and medics as some fainted due to a variety of reasons. On top of that, their bodyguards were helping as well. So, keeping Bear by her side wouldn't make a lot of difference.

"Fine." Heaven folded her arms, standing on the side of the building as she watched people flocking to the entrance.

'That damn Jester,'she thought, keeping a plain countenance. 'He probably had a lot of time in his hands to come out of his woodwork. I don't know if it was a good thing he didn't blast the building…'

Her brows arched upon sensing a person's gaze on her. When she slid her eyes to the corner, she caught Bear staring at her listlessly, as if he was deep in thought. She then moved her eyes to the other side, only to see Primo staring at Bear with interest.

'Huh?' Heaven furrowed her brows, discerning the distraction in Bear's eyes while Primo's eyes shone in intrigue. 'Does he know Bear?'

A second later, Primo blinked and held her gaze. His eyes instantly squinted, flashing her a bright smile.

Heaven didn't dwell on it, mentally shaking her head. She instinctively glanced at Bear once again, only to realize Bear was still a little distracted.

'Just what did he…' Heaven ran her tongue across her inner cheek. 'He met Joker?'

There was a sense of panic that swelled in her heart, knowing Jester came here because he found her location. After all, Sebastian went through her stuff and unintentionally gave their location. Heaven slowly closed her eyes, drawing a deep breath.

'I guess it's about time?'she spoke in her mind, reopening her eyes. 'Whether he dies wondering or musters the courage to ask, I felt like this was bound to happen.'

'What's more important is if he met Joker, that only means I don't have to worry about the jester.' Heaven mentally nodded in agreement, thinking if it was Bear, her secret would be safe. The only question was whether Bear would accept the phenomena that happened to her or consider her as a liar.

An ugly frown turned up on her face at the thought.

If there was someone she didn't want to fight, that would be Bear. This old man aged like a don, and despite that he had only been driving her around, she noticed how he kept his habit of flexing his fingers.

His hand and fingers — to be exact, Bear's grip was one of his strongest points.

'Let's not think about that for now.' Heaven cleared her throat, turning her head to face Paula and Primo. "Yes?"

"I said, let's go," Paula repeated sweetly, flashing Heaven a smile. "We're going somewhere, right?"

Heaven forced a smile. "I'm sorry, but I have other important things to do today."

"Aw…" Paula frowned. "Are they more important than me?"

'Paula, no offense, but what makes you think my world revolves around you?' was what Heaven wanted to say, biting her tongue to stop herself. Instead, she maintained an apologetic smile. "I have to fetch Basti after school and then go to the company."

"Ohh…"

"Don't worry, Paula." Heaven suddenly reached for Paula's hand, nodding at her encouragingly. "Just enjoy your date, alright? I'll tag along next time."

Paula sighed, still frowning. Her hand was still trembling within Heaven's grip, but somehow, the latter confirmed it wasn't because she was nervous.

"You know that if I come, I have to bring my bodyguards with me, right?" Heaven added, tipping her head in Bear's direction.

"Well, that's a shame." Suddenly, Primo chimed in, pulling Paula to his side by her shoulder, eyes on her. "I guess it wasn't a good time for Miss Liu to come. We don't want to bother her, right?"

Paula maintained her frown, casting Primo a quick look. When a sigh slipped past her nostrils, she looked back at Heaven and nodded.

"Fine," she conceded. "Let's go next time, then."

Heaven smiled, nodding. She and Paula said their goodbyes, then they parted ways. As soon as they turned around, the smile on Heaven's face faded.

'He knew Bear,' she thought, eyes on Primo's back. 'Heh. I thought I already ended those who were familiar with the old man's face, but I guess I missed a few. But then again…'

Heaven glanced over her shoulder. 'He'll be a good scarecrow. Bear will buy me some time until I prepare Dom for that abomination.'
