[Bonus chapter]the day

Days later…2

"You haven't been going out," Dominic pointed out while Heaven fixed his tie. "Is everything alright?"

Heaven looked up at him. "Of course!" she let out a very awkward laugh, making him tilt his head to the side.

"That's a lie and even if I want to pretend that I believe it, it makes me think how dumb I am."

Heaven let out a burst of genuine laughter at his bluntness.

"I'm… okay." She smoothened out his suit, tugging his lapels mildly. "It's just that I'm recharging. My social battery was completely drained and I need some time and space to think things through."

The corner of her lips curled up reassuringly. "Don't worry, my love. I am really okay."

"Are you sure?" Dominic furrowed his brows.

"Yes." She nodded. "Take Basti to school for me, okay?"

"You're going to stay in?"

"I'm still thinking about it." Heaven let him go, taking a step back. "I might or I might not. It's good that the production had been canceling my scenes, so everything is good."

"Alright." Dominic shrugged. "If you felt bored, I'll be staying in the office. You can drop by if you want."

"Sure." Heaven grinned, noticing how Dominic would casually invite her to the office every time he would stay in the office the whole day.

As usual, Heaven and Dominic left their room to join Sebastian for breakfast. The family of three had breakfast together with Heaven attentively tending to her son's needs. Their morning went by just like how it usually does, bidding her son and husband off by the door.

"Take care." Heaven stood in front of the main entrance, staring at the shut door.

The moment the door completely shut, her smile disappeared. Another shallow breath slipped past her lips, massaging her forehead to soothe her throbbing head.

It had been days since that encounter with Bear. She avoided him since, even if that meant not taking a step out of the penthouse. Still, it can't go on like this.

Heaven snapped her eyes up, setting them at the shut door. Beyond that door were the bodyguards. She heard from Miriam that Bear only had a day off and then had been diligently filling in his shift.

'It's a good thing Axel had been busy,'she thought, knowing Axel had grown fond of Bear and often dragged the old man with him. 'Still, this can't go on. I have to settle this matter immediately.'

Heaven nodded to herself, turning on her heel to walk away from the receiving area. She had spent the previous days planning how to come clean, even writing down a long list of what to tell him. But alas, she thrashed all of them.

There was no perfect time, nor there were the right words. Unless she fired him, then she had no reason to clarify everything.

Her determination was stronger today, knowing she still had many things to do in the coming days. Moreover, tomorrow was Friday. So for sure, she had to see Bear whether or not she wanted to.

It was now or never.

*******

[Outside the penthouse]

Tiger yawned, grunting at the pain in his head. "Damn… I shouldn't have drunk too much last night."

"You should've changed shift with Fig," Gray remarked, looking at his colleague with slight pity. "I'm sure he won't mind, especially if he knows today's menu."

"Well, sucks. I don't know today's menu." Tiger wobbled against the wall. The wall was the only thing that was keeping him on his feet. If not for it, he would've been sitting lazily due to his hangover.

Meanwhile, as the two talked about Tiger's hangover, Bear remained in his spot. He didn't even cast those two lost cause a look, unlike the rest of the bodyguards who hadn't grown used to their lack of ethics.

'When… will she call for me?' he wondered, keeping his eyes on the shut door. 'She's avoiding me. That's for sure.'

Waiting wasn't a problem for him. He could wait until Heaven was comfortable enough to talk and addressed where they left off. Bear was a patient person. However, his current worry was that Heaven might just fire him. If she did that, then he didn't know whether or not he would get an explanation.

Or rather, if she fired him, that only meant she didn't plan to explain herself.

'She's not like that, though,' he told himself, clinging to the only hope that had been behind his diligence. 'She won't just fire me like that.'

Or would she?

His face turned grim at the thought. He closed his eyes and drew a deep breath. If not for the horrible hangover he inflicted after drinking that night with Tiger, Gray, and Fig, he would've joined their drinking sessions. But drinking was something he wanted to stay away from.

It was not only good for his health, and it was worse than being in close combat. He would rather fight a person than have a hangover.

'If she didn't call me today, I'll just have to wait for a chance until she had no choice but to go out.' Bear mentally nodded, convinced at this resolution.

But then…

What if she requested someone else to drive her?

His face scrunched up once again, sighing deeply. His constant sighing was getting frequent, that Gray couldn't help but notice.

"Old man, are you okay?" asked Gray curiously. "It hadn't been lunch, but you sighed a hundred times already."

"Don't mind me." Bear simply cast the youth a quick look. His ears suddenly perked up when he felt someone approaching the door, turning his head as it opened from the inside.

His excitement, however, was short-lived as disappointment quickly replaced it when he saw Miriam coming out. Bear sighed for the umpteenth time, not expecting anything.

Until…

"Mr. Cruel?" Bear slowly raised his head to Miriam when the latter called her. "The Young Madam is calling for you. She said she wants to talk to you about something."

"Who?"

"The young madam," Miriam repeated. "She's on the balcony in the kitchen."

"Oh…"

There was a sense of relief in his heart, but at the same time, nervousness swelled in his chest. Even so, Bear didn't waste a second as he followed Miriam inside the penthouse, inviting himself to the kitchen to where Heaven was at.
