"Hey." 1
Paula's manager flinched when Paula called, turning her head to see Paula standing before her.
"Give it to me." Paula opened her hand, her expression pretty much dead. When a minute had passed and her manager was just staring at her, she cocked her head to the side.
"The phone."
"Oh." The manager cleared her throat, handing out a small paper bag.
Paula immediately went through the paper bag, tossing it away as she took out the box inside. Paula didn't even find a comfortable spot to unbox the phone, letting the seal and box fall on her feet until she held the phone. As soon as she possessed the phone, Paula hurriedly walked back to her desk to transfer her files into this new phone.
"Paula..." whispered the manager worriedly, eyes on Paula's back and then at the messy room.
The manager let out a deep exhale, taking off her bag and putting it on the stand.
"Paula, just how long will you be like this?" the manager asked worriedly, picking up the trash and deciding to clean up her artist's room for a bit. "I know you are hurting, but not taking care of yourself isn't how you should deal with a broken heart. That guy is a jerk. He broke up with you just because the news about you two broke out. It is not like his reputation was ruined. If anything, his company suddenly became popular overnight!"
Paula's manager stopped and checked Paula, only to see the latter not listening to her. Her lips curved into an ugly frown, not pleased that Paula wasn't taking this break up well.
"If you keep this up, I'm afraid you'd miss many opportunities," she continued, hoping Paula was listening even a bit. "I'm saying this for your own good. It's a good thing that people think that the Lyon Group is backing you up. So, don't mess up your friendship with Heaven Liu. She's a good asset to you. Because of her, you were given many opportunities. I know you don't like her because of her guts, but at the same time, you have to look at the benefits you're getting from her."
The manager continued to clean the room, putting all the trash in a plastic bag and then the clothes inside a basket. As she put the scattered clothes on the floor, she noticed that many of these clothes were cut with a scissor.
"Huh? What are these?" wondered the manager, furrowing her brows. However, she didn't dwell on it and continued to clean the room.
When she picked up the torn magazine, she noticed some torn photographs along with them. Picking up a piece, the manager instantly recognized the person.
Heaven Liu.
However, that wasn't what alarmed the manager. It was the fact that Heaven's head was cut off from the original photograph as if she was beheaded.
"Paula..." the manager looked back at Paula, only to see the latter still busy with her phone.
As Paula worked on her phone, she was sipping this lukewarm tea on the side of the desk. Moving her gaze, the manager noticed that there were tons of used tea bags and countless cups.
'Now that I think about it... isn't she drinking so much of that tea?' the manager narrowed her eyes as she figured it was quite odd. 'She never like tea before, but now, she's drinking more of it than any other refreshment.'
But before the manager could say anything, Paula raised her phone to her ear and looked back at her. The manager furrowed her already knitted brows as Paula raised a finger in front of her lips, gesturing the manager to keep quiet.
Ring...
Ringg...
"Come on..." Paula whispered while nibbling on the tip of her thumb. "Just what the hell are you doing for you to not pick up?"
Ring...
"Hello?"
Paula's eyes lit up as soon as Heaven's voice was heard from the other side of the line. She cleared her throat, pondering on what she wanted to tell the latter.
"Hello?" Heaven spoke again, brows furrowed. "Paula? What do you want? Don't tell me you called just to annoy me?"
"Heaven." Paula's voice was quiet and shaky, giving the impression she was hesitant.
"Hm?" Heaven, on the other end of the line, couldn't help but raise her brows. She glanced at the phone, wondering if Paula had just finished crying or if the latter was simply acting to get her sympathy.
"What?" asked Heaven, putting the phone in front of her ear.
"Uhm... did you hear the news?" Paula bit the side of her bottom lip, watching her tone not raise any suspicion.
"News about?"
"Primo and I broke up."
"Oh." Heaven rolled her eyes. "So? Do you want me to apologize for ruining your lovely relationship?"
"No." A sigh was heard on the line. "I just want to say I'm sorry."
"Huh?"
"I'm sorry for accusing you and saying hurtful stuff to you. I was just emotional, and I didn't mean everything I said," Paula explained in a soft tone. "After thinking about it, I know you wouldn't do that to me. So I confronted Primo and broke up with him."
"Ahh..."
"He's a jerk. How can he seduce my best friend as if he has a chance?"
Wow!
Heaven was a bit surprised at everything she heard. Although she wasn't sure if everything that Paula said was true, Heaven wanted to give the woman the benefit of the doubt.
What would be the harm in it, right?
"That's why I'm really sorry for hurting you. I promise you that won't happen again." Paula pressed her lips into a thin line, taking a deliberate pause. "But actually, there's another reason I called."
"Another reason?" Heaven didn't outright forgive Paula, as she had been reconsidering many things for days now.
Primo hurt Paula, and she has been silent since then. If Paula stayed out of Heaven's way, then the latter might just pardon her. If the original Heaven could forgive Paula, then Hera thought she should just cut her toxic friendship with her. After all, Hera didn't hold any personal grudge against the woman.
So long as Paula stays out of her way.
"What's another reason you called?" asked Heaven because Paula just stayed silent.
"I was worried about you."
"Worried about me?" Heaven arched a brow. "Why would you get worried about me?"
"I heard that some people are spreading rumors about you and Senior Wu. I was worried that Mr. Zhu heard about it and would hurt you."
"What?"
"I know." Paula drew a deep breath, leaning back against the chair while tapping her index against the surface of the desk. Her eyes were emotionless, completely contrasting with the tone of her voice.
"It's crazy that people hadn't moved on from you two and are making up stories," she added, eyes glinting menacingly. "Are you okay?"
"Am I okay?" Heaven repeated.
"Yes. With such rumors, I'm sure Mr. Zhu is furious."
"Aww. Paula. Even though we weren't on good terms for the past several days, you still think of me, huh?" Heaven smirked, her tone had a tinge of sarcasm. "Don't worry, though. Dom and I are on perfect terms. He just sent me a message regarding an article about me and Senior Wu. He stopped it from going out of the public. He's not angry at me, but he's furious at the person who wrote such a nonsense article. I mean, just how stupid, right?"
Heaven chucked for a moment. "Just what was going in their heads to write such a scandalous thing about me? Did they think my husband would allow such a thing? I am so devoted to my husband and he knows that every single night…"
Heaven didn't stop, taking this opportunity to gloat about how her husband protected her. She made it so obvious that next time, Paula wouldn't even think of such a childish plot.
