Where's the old guy?
0Axel paced back and forth while nibbling on the tip of his thumb. He glanced at the door of the penthouse, wincing as he hesitated in going in.1
'Damn it!' he hissed, snapping his tongue in irritation.
He had been outside the penthouse for minutes now. If this was before, he would barge into his brother's place without even pressing the doorbell. But now, he was just here. The guards outside couldn't help but watch him in confusion, looking at each other only to shrug.
All the guards outside didn't know what was wrong with the second young master. He had been here too early in the day, but he wasn't even going inside.
They wonder why?
'Is she still angry?'he wondered, snapping his eyes back to the entrance. 'Maybe she's still asleep. It's too early!'
Axel sighed, stopping as he kept his eyes on the door. Based on his observation, Heaven was an early bird since she usually made Sebastian and Dominic breakfast. But because of last night, he wondered if she could even go by and pretend nothing happened.
'I can't even pretend that nothing happened,'he thought, assuming Heaven was not fine. 'Especially since she had all the time in the world to think about things… did she realize how serious the occurrence last night?'
Heaven nearly committed a grave sin for Axel. Therefore, he was worried that the thought might affect her because it affected him. He barely even slept!
"Huh?" Axel arched a brow as he glanced at the guards outside the penthouse. "Where's Bear?"
His eyes scanned the few guards in the hallway, but Bear was nowhere in sight. Bear was easy to spot among the bodyguards because of his humongous physique.
"Hey," called Axel to the nearest guard from him. "Where's the old guy?"
The guard raised his brows as he pondered who he was referring to. It took him a few seconds to realize Bear was the old guy Axel was referring to.
"He was on a leave," said another bodyguard, standing at arm's length from the one Axel was talking to.
"A leave?"
"Yes, second young master. He said it was a family member's death anniversary, so he had to go home and will be away for the rest of the week."
"Ohh…" Axel rocked his head, murmuring. "I thought for a second it was because of last night."
Axel let out a deep exhale, glancing at the door. "Damn it. Forget it," he muttered, turning on his heel to leave.
He wasn't ready to face Heaven and, just like what she asked him last night, he should give her some space. Axel could just go here tomorrow or the day after that. He lived just a few floors below, after all. Visiting Heaven wasn't that hard.
But just as Axel turned around to leave, the door suddenly opened. He turned his head on instinct, only to see Miriam going out.
"Second young master?" Miriam furrowed her brows the moment she locked eyes with Axel. "What are you doing outside?"
"Ah…" Axel cleared his throat. "Nothing. I was thinking of going in, but I forgot my phone in my place."
"Oh…"
Axel cleared his throat as he walked in front of Miriam. "Miriam, is my sister awake?"
"The young madam? Uh, yes." Miriam looked back inside on instinct. "She was making breakfast."
"Really?"
"Yes." Miriam set her eyes back on him, tilting her head to the side. "Why, second young master?"
"No — nothing." Axel cleared his throat once again, peeking inside the penthouse. "Is she okay?"
"Well, yes?"
Axel arched a brow, narrowing his eyes suspiciously. "Are you sure?"
"Yes, second young master."
"You didn't notice something different?"
"No." Deep lines appeared between Miriam's brows at the line of questions Axel was spewing. "Second young master, is there something wrong?"
"Huh?"
"You've been asking about the young madam with weird questions. If you want to talk to the young madam, she's in the kitchen." Miriam offered a warm smile, aware that Axel and Heaven had this slightly complicated relationship. "She's the type to talk things out. If you have a misunderstanding, it's better to talk about it now instead of prolonging it. After all, the master only wants you and the young madam to get along."
Axel massaged his nape while staring at Miriam.
"While no one is around, you two should smoothen things out." Miriam nodded encouragingly, opening the door wide. "She also likes company whenever she's in the kitchen. I have to step out for a moment, so it'll be best if you accompany her for the time being."
Reluctance flickered across Axel's eyes, staring at Miriam's encouraging smile. After a moment, a deep exhale slipped past his nostrils.
"Fine," he said. "But I'll just check on her for a bit."
Miriam's smile widened, stepping aside to give way for Axel.

Axel only planned to take a quick look at Heaven to confirm if she was fine. Just like what Miriam had said, he went straight to the kitchen. The penthouse only had a few servants, unlike Dominic's mansion. In other words, there wasn't anyone around when Axel went in.
'She…' When Axel reached the kitchen, his steps slowed down until he reached the entrance. '... is fine.'
Axel couldn't help but heave a sigh of relief upon seeing Heaven busily work in the kitchen. This wasn't the first time he had seen her in the kitchen. His brother and his family moved into this building over a month ago, and Axel had been visiting when he was bored. Therefore, it was inevitable to see Heaven in the kitchen at least once or twice a day.
'I thought she will be sulking in her room, but it seemed she can manage.'Axel stayed by the entrance and didn't want to disturb her. 'I'm fine now.'
All he wanted was to make sure Heaven was alright, and now that he confirmed she was going by her day like usual, the weight in his heart was lifted. He didn't want to disturb her or ruin her day, so he decided to leave quietly. But just before he could, Heaven raised her head in his direction.
"Oh, Axel, you're here?" His brows rose as soon as they locked eyes with each other, watching her smile warmly as if nothing happened last night. "Good morning."
