[Bonus chapter]Don't romanticize them so much
"Go and save the world?" Axel mumbled, recalling his nephew's words minutes ago. He snapped his eyes to Heaven's side, standing in the elevator as they were on their way to the department store.2
"Sis, don't you think my nephew has become weird?" he inquired, rubbing his chin mildly. "Do you think he believes you're some hero or some sort?"
Heaven cocked her head back, eyes on the side. "Did you just call my son weird?"
"Uh, no?" Axel bit his tongue, clearing his throat. "But well, I guess you are a hero in his eyes."
His lips stretched from ear to ear, squeezing himself to her side. "You're my hero as well." He winked, making her scrunch her nose up.
"Please, give me some space." Heaven flung her arms a bit, making Axel take a few steps back. "Anyway, Bear, had you reached out to Mr. M?"
"I sent him a text."
"Huh?" Axel gazed back at Bear, who was standing in the back of the elevator. "Sis, why do you need to contact Mr. M? Is it about those freaks?"
"No." Heaven lifted her chin, gazing at the numbers above the elevator door. "Those freaks are still enjoying their time with a tube. They'd be immortal if they can even get up from their beds."
Axel's brows rose, glancing at Bear. "Bear, is that true?"
"Yes." Bear lowered his head, resembling a neck bow. "Those rogues were beaten badly. Although they weren't in critical condition anymore, they will still need physical therapy. After all… the injuries weren't light."
Bear slowly veered his gaze to Heaven's back, stressing each word for reasons he also couldn't understand. Was he expecting any reaction from her? Surely not.
Well, probably a little.
"I see." Axel heaved a sigh of relief, only to hear Heaven speak again.
"Don't worry about them anymore. They won't be able to touch you ever."
"I'm not worried. Hehe." Axel suppressed his smile. "But sis, why do you need Mr. M, for?"
Heaven didn't answer immediately, watching the light in the numbers light up one after another. "Someone is sending death threats to your brother."
"What?!"
"A week ago, someone sent a bird carcass to LYON Group Headquarters," explained Heaven in a calm yet deadly tone. "Fortunately, it wasn't a bomb."
"Why am I only hearing this?!"
"Because your brother doesn't want to worry everyone." Heaven maintained a sharp look, facing Axel squarely. "He only told me today as well. So, you can imagine the burden and worry he had been shouldering for the past week."
"What the…" Axel sported a conflicted look before snapping his eyes back to Heaven. "What does Mr. M got to do with this? I mean, for sure, my brother already contacted the authorities. They were probably investigating it."
Heaven let out a deep exhale as she peeled her eyes away from him. "The investigation isn't moving."
"Huh?"
"The person who delivered the package to the building just suddenly disappeared from any footage," she summarized, glancing over her shoulder to where Bear stood. "That only meant the person who delivered the package was aware of the roads and blind spot to conceal his tracks. Mr. M will find him for me."
Axel couldn't help but scrunch his nose up in dismay. "Why Mr. M?"
"Because he knew the ins and outs of the underground." She shrugged. "He might get any information about it."
"Sis." Axel pinched the bridge of his nose, barely absorbing this information. He took a step forward, closer to Heaven, whispering, "Isn't it better to leave this to the authorities? I mean, it sounds dangerous! With my brother's connections, you don't need to drag someone as shady as Mr. M!"
"Second young master, forgive me if you find me offensive. However, in a war, no matter how many troops you have, you can still lose if you aren't familiar with the geography of the place." This time, Bear chimed in to explain it in simple terms because Bear already understood Heaven's reason. "Basing everyone on statistics and books will not always guarantee a win. Therefore, sometimes, you need someone who is familiar with these sorts of things."
"Right now, Mr. M can be helpful. After all, the underground doesn't only allow illegal drag racing. There is a far more dangerous and dark side of the underground that you shouldn't involve yourself with," he continued in the same stoic tone.
"You're lecturing me on not getting myself involve in those things again, but what you're doing is the same thing."
"It's not the same thing," Heaven answered, keeping her eyes fixed on the door. "That is why we'll need Mr. M, so our only contact is him. We don't need to do the labor job ourselves. Besides, it's not a bad idea to get another person's perspective that differs from the police."
"Oh…" Axel rocked his head, even though he barely understood the logic. He shrugged as he added, "Well, I trust you."
"Don't tell your brother about it."
"Sis, if my brother kept it to himself for the past week, why would I insensitively worry him by knowing that someone is sending him death threats?" Axel clicked his tongue mildly. "This information is safe with me — I promise! Also, I think it's kinda cool to be a part of this team. Hehe. We look like spies or some sort with special missions! Sis, are you sure you weren't a rogue in the past?"
Heaven twisted her upper body, looking at him with arched brows. Meanwhile, Bear also looked at Axel with genuine wonder in his eyes.
"What?" Axel blinked, darting his eyes between the two. "Am I the only one who thinks we're like cool thugs, living a double life?"
"Axel… there's nothing cool about being a thug." Heaven shook her head mildly, while Bear kept his thoughts to himself. As she peeled her gaze from him to check if they were near the lobby, she added. "Do not romanticize these things so much because, at one point, you were right. This is dangerous."
His brows rose, keeping his gaze on her side profile. Bear, on the other hand, didn't show any emotion even though he agreed with Heaven. Thugs, mafias, crime organizations, and even spies were ruthless and violent people. There was nothing worthy to praise about them — that included Bear and Hera.
