Mother unconditional love
Dominic was truly someone who shouldn't offend. He might be the most patient and logical person Heaven met, but once one crossed his bottom line, there was no stopping him. Just like this woman's family, Dominic didn't exercise the slightest mercy. 2
After cutting the woman's family off, everyone in the upper class ostracized them. Some supported Dominic to gain his favor, while others feared implicating themselves.
With that fact laid on the table, one could imagine how this family fell just because of one single mistake.
'Despite that… I don't feel sorry for them,' Heaven thought, staring at the woman trembling across the table.
Moments ago, this woman was begging on her knees right outside the building. Even though Heaven told her to stand, the woman just kept weeping and begging. Therefore, to not garner more attention than they already did, Heaven and Axel invited the woman to the nearest cafe where the latter told her story.
'If it was me, I wouldn't mind. I won't even care, since she only slapped me once. However, her wrong teaching hurt my son. Thus, I can't feel any shred of pity toward her.'Heaven continued in her mind, unable to force herself to feel anything about the story she heard.
"I know my wrong and I understand my little Yun was like that because of his parents." The woman's lips quivered, eyes shaking as she raised it to Heaven and Axel across from her. "But please… help me, Madam Zhu and Second young master."
"You are asking for our help… so you can talk to my husband?" Heaven summarized in a questioning tone.
"Yes."
"Shouldn't you go to the police?" Axel frowned, arms crossed underneath his chest. "If your husband is beating you and you don't feel safe anymore, you should've gone to the police, not to us."
"I know that, Second Young Master. But the thing is…" the woman took a deliberate pause, almost chewing her bottom lip. "I'm afraid he would do something to my son."
"Let's get this straight, alright?" Axel cleared his throat, leaning forward until his arm was against the surface of the table. "After getting served what you deserved, your husband blames you for not correcting your son. After begging my brother to the point, we can consider it harassment, he started exercising violence toward his wife. And now, he locked himself in a room with your son, threatening you he would take his own and your son's life if you don't fix the problem?"
"Yes…"
"That's messed up." Axel drew his body back in utter disbelief at what he had heard. "You better call the authorities. We can't fix anything. I mean, what do you expect? That my brother will go there and beg your husband to think rationally?"
"I think you've also lost your mind," he added with a faint scoff. "The only help we can offer is to call the police. More than that — don't even dream about it. My brother — no. The entire Zhu Family wouldn't feel sorry for how your life spiraled down. This happened because of you, your husband, and your son. My brother gave you a chance the first time, but you were greedy and didn't know your place."
A thin layer of frost coated Axel's eyes, gazing at the woman without any shred of pity. "I'm sorry, Madam, that this happened to you. But don't think that the Zhu Family will fix your problem."
Heaven cast Axel a side eye, a bit pleased at the fact that Axel was useful in these situations. She slowly set her eyes on the woman across from her.
"I already told my bodyguard to alert the police." Heaven chimed in calmly. "You can wait for them here to make your report. The authorities will surely give you the help you needed."
She cast Axel a look, only to see the latter looking back at her, nodding.
"May you emerge from this crisis, Madam." Heaven slowly pushed herself up and Axel also did the same. "Believe me or not, I wish that you and your son survive this nightmare so you can reflect on your actions. Life is just the way it is, after all. Sometimes, you're at the top of the world and then the next moment, you're at the bottom. It's never fair. You just got to learn how to live with it and find ways to go back to the top. Learn from your mistakes while you're at it, so you don't go back to where you started."
"Now, if you excuse us." Heaven tipped her head down slightly, turning around to walk away. Axel followed behind her, but just as they took five steps away, the woman's shaking yet quiet voice rang in their ears.
"My life is already ruined…" said the woman as she kept her eyes down and clasped her trembling hands. "You are a mother… so you should understand, more than anybody else, that you want nothing but the best for your child."
Heaven and Axel slowly turned around, setting their eyes back on the woman.
"It was true I had my shortcomings. I was not the perfect mother, but I did my best for my precious child. I thought I was doing the right thing." The woman slowly raised her head, facing the two squarely. "I can take all the beating — the abuse for the sake of my child. If going down to my knees would help, I will grovel to the ground just to protect him."
A tear rolled down the woman's dry cheek as she held Heaven's eyes. "My husband has a gun, and whenever I looked at him recently, I don't see the man I married anymore. All I could see in those eyes was a devil clad in human skin."
"He scares me… and I'm terrified of what he would do to our son if he hears I alerted the police." Her lips quivered, begging them while keeping the last bit of dignity she had left. "I know coming here is shameless, but I don't know what to do anymore."
The woman slowly rose from the chair, only to kneel on the floor once again. This time, she was quiet without trying to garner other people's attention.
"Please… I am asking as a mother from another mother…" she hung her head low, barely forcing her next words out. "Help me."
Heaven kept her eyes on the woman, letting out a deep exhale. She glanced at Axel, only to see him having these conflicting emotions in his eyes.
