"Sis," Axel called, eyes swirling with worry as he gazed at Heaven next to his chair. "Are you alright?"
Heaven had her eyes fixed on the table a few meters from her. There, on the corner table, was the woman and the officers who came. The woman was giving her statement, keeping her head down. One could see different emotions on the woman's face every passing second, but the one that dominated her weary eyes was helplessness.
"Today, I learned something from her, Axel," whispered Heaven after some time while narrowing her eyes. "I could be in that situation."
"What?" Axel furrowed his brows. "Why would you be in that situation?"
"I'm not saying I would, but if begging is the only thing I can do, I would grovel to the ground if I had to." Heaven slowly peeled her eyes from the woman to Axel. "As a mother, I can kill if I have to, but I will also go down to my knees if that is the only thing I can do."
Axel blinked, studying his sister-in-law's unsmiling countenance. "You don't have to kneel if you can fight them?"
"I know, but my point is, I would also do everything for Basti." Heaven snapped her eyes at the entrance of the cafe, only to see Dominic, Sebastian, Dane, and a few bodyguards enter the establishment. "In other words, it's not only becoming the devil that I have to prepare myself to become, but also, I have to prepare myself for ripping my heart out if necessary."
"Mommy!"
"Heaven!"
Dominic and Sebastian rushed to Heaven while she slowly rose from her seat. Much to her confusion, Dominic immediately grabbed her biceps and checked her from up and down. Meanwhile, Sebastian stood beside his father and looked at her with genuine worry.
"Are you okay?" asked Dominic to his wife, scanning her face to see if she was hurt.
"Mommy…"
Heaven darted her eyes between her husband and son, sporting a quick smile. "Of course I am. What made you think I wasn't?"
The second she raised that question, Dominic and Sebastian glared at Axel. The latter cleared his throat and looked away.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to worry you," Axel reasoned awkwardly. "It's just I couldn't type everything since there's so much detail."
Dominic sighed, deciding not to berate his brother. Who wouldn't get worried with how Axel constructed his sentence? Axel made it sound like Heaven was hurt.
"I'm okay." Heaven reached for his hand that was on her shoulder blade, casting Sebastian a reassuring smile. When she looked back at Dominic, she explained the situation. "There she was."
Dominic turned his head, narrowing his eyes to the woman sitting across from the officers. It took him some time to recall who she was.
His expression darkened. "What is she doing here?"
"Well, apparently, her husband went crazy," Axel summarized, shrugging. "And she's also on the brink of insanity. She said she had been waiting outside since last night, only to be chased out by the guards. She came back this morning and luckily for her, sister and I were leaving the building."
"Axel, can you please take Basti to the other table?" Heaven cast Axel a look, and the latter immediately grasped the message behind it.
"Little ancestor, do you want to buy something?" Axel didn't refute, marching to Sebastian's side and squatting down. "There's some good food they serve here. I bet you haven't tried them."
Sebastian peeked at his mother before facing his uncle squarely. "What do you recommend?"
"Well, there's a ton, but you can check it out on your own."
With that being said, Axel held Sebastian's hand and took him to the counter to buy some snacks. Heaven watched her brother-in-law and son walk away before facing Dominic.
"Heaven." Dominic sighed, opening and closing his mouth, but his voice was stuck in his throat. What would he say? Apologize? For implicating her? Or should he reassure her that this woman wouldn't bother her again?
After all, for the way Dominic sees it, this woman dared approach his wife just because he thought he already taught them a valuable lesson. Who would have thought they were so crazy as to ambush his wife outside of their home?
"Her husband took their son as hostage." Heaven broke the building silence between them. "It seemed her husband blamed their downfall on her and their son. Although he wasn't entirely wrong, I don't want the kid dead. I'm afraid it would affect Basti in the future, Dom."
"The police are already on it." Dominic retrieved his hands from her shoulder, glancing around. "Leave it to them."
Heaven raised a brow, following her husband's gaze, only to see Dane right outside talking to the police. The sight of the bodyguards and officers caused some to look at the woman's table with curiosity.
"Just trust them, but are you sure she didn't do anything to you?" his voice stole her attention once again, looking back at Dominic. Dominic planted his thumb on her chin, moving her face sideways.
"She didn't slap me." Heaven chuckled a bit, waiting for him to look into her eyes once again. "Axel was with me, remember? Considering your brother's personality, he wouldn't let her touch me."
"His short temperament sometimes comes in handy."
"Dom, can you make sure the child will be safe?"
Dominic paused a little before nodding. "Of course."
"Thank you." A smile of relief turned up on her face, trusting Dominic would deal with this through legal means. This situation wasn't something she should personally intervene in, after all.
As the two conversed, they didn't notice Dane approaching until they heard his voice.
"Sir," called Dane, warranting Heaven and Dominic's attention. The second the husband and wife gazed at him, their brows creased. "A tip came to the station just now, giving valuable information about the incident a week ago."
Dane's expression darkened. "It seemed we got our culprit."
