[Bonus chapter]First argument due to differing views
[PENTHOUSE]2
"I see…" Dominic rocked his head, holding the phone in front of his ear. He glanced at everyone in the living area, detecting the curiosity in Heaven and Axel's eyes. Sebastian didn't seem he care much as he was using his mother's phone to play.
"So, it's really him?" Dominic continued his conversation with Dane on the phone. "I see. Was the child safe?"
"Okay." He rocked his head in understanding before ending the call.
As soon as Dominic put down his phone, Heaven and Axel perked up. They looked at him with anticipation, waiting for him to tell them the update.
"They got him and they confirmed that he was the one…" Dominic trailed off, glancing at Sebastian as if it wasn't something his son should hear. Or at least, it was something he shouldn't say in front of his boy while Heaven was around.
"I'm going to Miriam and ask for some refreshments." Sebastian slowly raised his eyes from his mother's phone, jumping out of the couch. "Mommy, I'll just go to the kitchen and play with Miriam."
Heaven sported a smile, nodding. "I'll follow in a bit."
"Alright." Sebastian didn't idle as he walked away, leaving the adults to deal with the adults' problems. He had other things to do — much more important things to do. For instance, saving humanity.
The three (Heaven, Dominic, and Axel) followed Sebastian with their gaze. When the little master was out of sight, Heaven and Axel set their attention back to Dominic.
"Bro, what did Mr. Zhang say? Is that woman and child safe?"
"Yes." Dominic rested his arms on his spread legs, holding the phone between his hands. "He said the child went running out of the room. Fortunately, the police were already on standby or the worst could've happened."
"The worst? Did his father really want to kill his family?"
"That's what Mr. Zhang said." Another deep exhale slipped past Dominic, feeling a bit responsible for this situation. Although Dominic simply retaliated against the family as they kept bullying his son and wife, he didn't expect the man to lose his mind.
If the woman didn't seek for help, Dominic could imagine that woman and child's fate. That wasn't what he wanted, after all.
"Moreover, it was confirmed that the person who delivered and sent that parcel was him." He dropped another bomb, trying to distract himself from the intrusive thoughts invading his mind. "They found pieces of evidence that match the letters that came along with that package. And another thing was, they found improvised explosives."
"It seemed he was planning to drag everyone who ruined him to hell." Dominic took a deliberate pause, clenching his teeth, which made his jaw tighten. "That includes his wife, his son, and me."
"Damn…" Axel gasped in disbelief at everything he just heard.
Meanwhile, Heaven drew a deep breath. 'Is this a good thing?' she wondered, thinking that there was a part of her that felt relieved at the thought that Primo had nothing to do with it. Still, the other half of her heart felt restless.
"I already told Mr. Zhang what to do and to give any assistance the mother and child need. After all, I am partially at fault." Dominic lowered his gaze, admitting his fault in his actions. "I was too harsh on them."
"I… disagree." Dominic slowly lifted his eyes upon Heaven's answer. "Dom, I know you feel responsible for it. However, they weren't sorry when they humiliated and bullied my son. They talked bad about him as if they weren't talking about a four-year-old kid."
A slight frown dominated her face, finally realizing this was the day that she would argue with Dominic. "How they took our retaliation against their bullying was their problem, not ours. We helped out of the goodness of our hearts, but that's it. Of course, I felt a little bad for them, but I will never forget how they were months ago."
"Uh…" Axel scratched the back of his head, darting his eyes between Heaven and Dominic. 'They both have a point. Goodness. I don't know who I am going to side with.'
"Dominic Zhu." Heaven maintained her eye contact with Dominic, unraveling all the innocent and bubbly layers she would usually display. "Don't tell me you forgot about how they hurt Basti?"
"Heaven." Dominic's expression turned a little grim. "I am partially at fault, and it's something I should admit. Don't make excuses for me."
"I'm not making an excuse for you. What I am asking is whether or not you forgot about it?"
"I haven't."
"Then there's no point in wallowing about how they took the blow. They asked for it, and it's their fault for not being prepared for the consequences of their actions." Heaven lifted her chin as she continued, "I would've killed the three of them if that is the only way to get even, and I won't be sorry for it."
"Heaven Liu, don't speak as though killing is that easy."
"I don't even need to blink to do that." Heaven hissed. Axel felt suffocated by her authoritative aura as it clashed with Dominic, increasing the tension between them. "I can do worse, Dominic Zhu. They should've been grateful that you dealt with them."
"Heaven, they almost died. Murdered. Are you going to say they asked for it?" Dominic frowned, understanding her point, but at the same time, he wouldn't easily bend with his belief. "I don't forget how they hurt my son, but this situation was not something I wish. I wanted them to learn and know their place, but not in this way."
Heaven clenched her teeth, telling herself to stop the argument. However, something within her felt the need to speak her mind.
"Grandma Zhu was right. You were underestimating the weight of your position," Heaven breathed out, leaning her back against the couch, eyes on him. "One day, you'll meet someone who doesn't play by the rules and realize that you should've been more adamant."
She looked away. "I'm upset. Let's not talk for a while."
"Fine by me." Dominic also leaned back in his seat, looking the other way.
"Uh…" Axel darted his eyes between his brother and sister-in-law, opening and closing his mouth like a fish. However, despite countless attempts, he couldn't find the right subject to break the ice. Thus, he told himself to wait until the two calmed down.
Little did he know, Dominic and Heaven would stay in their seats for hours and in silence.
What a nice first slumber party.
