Paula calmed down her tremblings when she chugged down the entire tea, unfazed by the heat that scalded her tongue. She hugged her knees, staring at the phone near her feet. After dropping her phone, she didn't have the confidence to pick it up and check what they were talking about. She didn't even try to mute it, afraid she would have a glimpse of what the production staff was saying.
'This cannot be happening,'she told herself, but no matter how she tried, she couldn't delude herself.
Dominic and Heaven seemed to have exposed their relationship. And now, everyone who curried favored to Paula, believing she was Dominic's woman, had turned their backs on her.
'Those snakes...' Paula ground her teeth, hiding half of her lower face in her arms. 'How dare they... even without Dominic Zhu, I am still Paula Shen! How dare they make fun of me?!'
Her eyes shone with madness, sensing her tremors crawling underneath her skin once again. However, Paula did nothing but glare at her phone. It would light up one after another, showing a notification. It had been minutes since she saw the group chat, but even now, the people chatting in it were still talking.
"Don't they have anything else to do?" she grumbled through her gritted teeth. "All they do is talk about other people behind their backs. So what if Heaven is Dominic's woman? That's the only good thing about her!"
Paula shrieked in annoyance, clasping her hair and tugging it. If she could tear her scalp apart due to irritation, she would've done it.
Everyone was just too cruel.
They were just too much!
They didn't care if she was alright or went out of their way to check on her. If anything, they used her absence to gather all those people who dislike her to hound on her.
For Paula, everyone was just against her. In her victim's mind, they were all insecure and simply wanted to bring her down.
"It's because I was too kind to them..." Paula ground her teeth as the corner of her eyes turned red in rage. "How dare they do this to me? Using my absence for their..."
She trailed off, thinking about this situation and what she wanted to believe.
"It's her, right?" a scoff escaped her smirk. "Heaven surely did this on purpose."
Paula slowly balled her hands into a tight fists until her nails were digging into her palms. It was always Heaven. Heaven probably called Dominic over and used Paula's absence to make herself look good in front of everyone. It was too obvious to be a coincidence.
Heaven and Dominic never went out together. Or rather, they wanted to keep their relationship a secret. Wasn't Heaven so afraid for others to know she already has a family of her own?
"That crafty bitch..." Paula continuously ground her teeth, unaware that drool was trickling down the side of her mouth. "She's just acting pitiful, but now that she's threatened that Dominic is looking in my way, she's doing everything she can to keep him. Disgusting!"
Paula spat out in irritation, losing all the poise she used to carry. "I'm going to kill you. How dare you try to ruin me?"
Paula, fueled with all this twisted logic, found the strength to pick up her phone. She immediately muted the group chat so she wouldn't see everyone's nonsense. Her eyes were glinting with madness, thinking of different ways to teach Heaven a lesson for making her miserable.
"I won't let you off this time." She calmed down, staring at Heaven's name on the screen. "If I'm going down, I'll take you with me. After all, we're best friends and we promised to be together... always."
********
[DING!]
Dominic slowly turned his head to his wife, who suddenly got busy with her phone. After having dinner with everyone, Dominic and Heaven bid them farewell and were now on the way home.
"Is that important?" he asked, curious. "You've been on your phone for a while."
"Hmm?" Heaven looked up at him, blinking. "Honey, how do you mute his chat?"
Dominic furrowed his brows, gazing at the phone she was showing him. Heaven handed him her phone, hoping he could help her with it.
"I tried muting it, but it somehow doesn't work," she explained as Dominic went through the settings, only to find out the group chat was already muted.
"Let's ask Mr. Zhang," he proposed out of habit while Heaven nodded. "Mr. Zhang, do you know how to mute this channel?"
"Huh?" Dane looked back at the backseat, seeing the phone that Dominic was handing him. He accepted it out of instinct, listening to Heaven's brief explanation.
"Ahh." Dane gazed down and immediately checked the setting. Seeing that she already muted it, Dane furrowed his brows. However, unlike the two in the backseat, who couldn't find the problem, Dane quickly figured out the problem.
"Ah. Young Madam, it was because they were pinging you. That's why you're getting all these notifications," explained Dane, casting Heaven a quick look. "Do you want me to stop them from pinging you?"
"Can you do that?"
"Yes, but I'm afraid there were important things you need to know, and you wouldn't see them on time."
"It's fine." Heaven smiled. "It's just a new gossip channel. Director Guan isn't there, so I guess that's fine."
"Ohh… gossip channel." Dane kept his opinions to himself, doing what he was told to do.
DING!
While Dane was tweaking Heaven's settings, he accidentally caught the message that suddenly popped up. He didn't mean to read it, but he caught a snippet of it.
"Uhh…" Dane cleared his throat, finishing the task before handing back the phone. "It's good now."
"Thank you." Heaven grinned happily, pleased that the peace and quietness in her phone returned.
"Uhm…" Dane hummed, making Heaven raise her brows.
"What is it, Mr. Zhang?" she asked, tilting her head to the side. Dominic also stared at his assistant, wondering why the latter was making such a face.
"I didn't mean to, but I think Miss Shen sent you a message," said Dane after a moment of thinking. "Sorry."
"It's alright. Don't worry." Heaven smiled, checking the message Dane was talking about and her brows creased upon reading the text.
