It looks like I have two heads
When Hera woke up in Heaven's body, she picked up the habit of staring at her face under the facade of doing her skincare. She did this until she was used to her face, instead of flinching whenever she would see her reflection, only to see another person staring back at her. 0
Today was different.
The face... those eyes that were looking back at her weren't from a mirror or a reflection of herself. It was the real Heaven.
How was this possible?
Hera's gaze crept to Paula, and then to the unconscious person lying beside Paula. It was Heaven, but that other person squatting down near the body was also... Heaven.
'No,' was Hera's first thought, holding the original Heaven's gaze. 'This is not happening.'
Hera hoped deep in her heart this was just a dream — a nightmare. Something she should wake up from now. However, only then she realized she had lost all other senses other than her consciousness. Her brain went blank once again. All she could do was stare at the original Heaven, looking straight in her direction.
Heaven blinked and then blinked, her eyes were so clear. She showed no reaction; neither surprise nor puzzlement could be seen in her eyes, unlike those eyes looking back at her. Without any change of countenance, she moved her hand closer to her body, eyes still fixed on Hera.
"Oy..." Hera snapped the moment she caught Heaven reaching out for her body. "... don't you dare go back into that body!"
Heaven paused, eyes still fixed on Hera. She moved her hand closer to her body again, only to stop when Hera took two enormous steps. Her lips parted, making Hera's brows elevate to what she was about to say. However, Heaven suddenly shut her mouth as if she changed her mind.
"Hah... are you messing with me?" Hera scoffed, seeing that Heaven was trying to do something Hera wouldn't like while staring at her as if curious about what reaction she would get.
Heaven's thin lips were drawn into an inscrutable line, retrieving her arm as she rested them on her knees. She moved her eyes to the unconscious body, gazing at the blood on the temple. After staring at her pale face, she moved her gaze to the person who was frantically wiping the blood so it wouldn't scatter.
She didn't say anything or did anything. Instead, she kept squatting down, watching Paula whimper while desperately cleaning up the mess she caused herself.
"You..." This time, Hera's voice sounded closer as she approached the three (Paula, Heaven, and Heaven's body) cautiously. "... what are you doing here?"
Heaven didn't answer immediately, eyes fixed on Paula. Her quietness gave out the impression she couldn't talk. However, Hera doubted it. If Hera could talk, she was certain Heaven could talk as well. They were in the same boat, after all.
"Don't tell me you don't want to talk to me?" Hera continued after a moment of silence, pointing at the unconscious body between them. "I'm telling you. You can't go back there."
"But that's my body."
"No!" Hera almost gasped, earning Heaven's languid attention.
"No?" Heaven blinked ever so tenderly, pointing at her face. "My face is the same face while yours... a little too scary."
"What did you say?"
"I said you're scary." Heaven puffed her cheek mildly, assessing the glinting eyes cast upon her. "Just so you know, you can't kill me since we're both souls now."
Soul.
"No." Hera's breath hitched, denying that word with great passion. "I'm not a soul."
"Then, what are you?"
A moment of silence befell Heaven and Hera as they stared at each other. Meeting each other's eyes despite being spirit greatly displayed the difference between the two women. One was quite timid and offered a friendlier approach, while the other omitted a natural sense of danger.
Heaven wasn't lying. Hera was truly scary yet hauntingly beautiful, even though she hadn't done anything yet.
It was akin to a lamb bumping into a lion in the middle of the forest. The lion didn't have to do anything to intimidate and make the lamb freeze in horror.
'What am I?' While Heaven was staring at Hera meekly, the latter repeated Heaven's question. "I'm not a soul. I have a living body."
Taking this opportunity, Hera jumped into Heaven's unconscious body in a desperate attempt to return to the body. Since she was now in a state of no gravity, Hera fell straight to Heaven's body and copied the body's position to become one with it.
But alas...
"You can't just do that," said Heaven, watching Hera raise her head over her unconscious body. "And this is a bit scary. It looks like I have two heads."
Heaven blinked, eyes on Hera's head connecting to the body's neck. Since Hera's body was lying with her tummy and her head cocked back, it did appear like she have two heads.
"Scary —" Heaven flinched when Hera snapped at her.
"Oy, Heaven Liu!" Hera jumped up from the body, sitting on top of Heaven's back, facing the soul squarely. Her legs were spread, arms on her knees, eyes on Heaven that was squatting down near the body she was sitting on.
"Are you messing with me?" Hera asked in a serious tone that had a tinge of aggressiveness. "Do you know this situation? No. It was you, right? The reason this body is now dying is that you stopped my movements."
Heaven pressed her lips into a thin line, shrinking under Hera's fiery gaze. "Yes," she confessed quietly.
"This little —" Hera raised her hand to strike her, only to stop midway when Heaven lowered her head in response. "Gosh. Look at you. So pathetic. This is why you're friends with this drug-addicted psycho. Do you really want to die so bad, huh?! If you didn't interfere with me, do you think she would even have the chance to hurt this body?!"
"But…" Heaven peeked at Hera, fidgeting with her fingers nervously. "... if I didn't interfere, you'd just leave her."
"Huh?"
"You should've at least slapped her once!" Heaven yelled, mustering the courage to speak before the demoness before her. "I want to slap her so bad that… that I didn't think I was putting you in danger. Sorry."
