Crime scene

It took minutes before the building manager and a few building personnel arrived on the floor where Paula lived. The moment they arrived, Dominic and the nurse were already waiting outside the unit.  2

"Sir, what seems to be the —"

"Open this damn door before I break it down myself." Dominic aggressively clasped the manager's collar, pulling the latter viciously. 

The manager's eyes shook, surprised by the man's aggressiveness. "CEO — CEO Zhu, we have to contact Miss Shen or Manager Chu before we can enter the unit. After all, we don't know if they were inside or simply went out."

"Open the damn door!"

"Mr. Zhu, I apologize, but that's protocol."

Dominic's eyes instantly went black as his grip on the manager's collar tightened. At this moment, Dane finally arrived, along with Bear. 

"Sir!" called Dane as soon as he saw the situation. They already got wind of the commotion, so they were slightly aware of what had happened. 

"Miss Shen and Manager Chu are still inside. They never left the unit." Bear immediately imparted his knowledge about the situation while Dominic kept his eyes and his grip on the middle-aged man before him. 

"If it's protocol, then I will not force you. However, I won't wait another minute wondering if my wife is okay or not." Dominic breathed out as he let the manager go, pushing him away. "I will understand if your company press charges against me, I'll face them head-on."

The moment those last remarks rolled out of Dominic's mouth, he snapped his eyes to Bear. "Break down this door."

"Yes!" Bear's steps were huge and heavy, not stopping in his tracks until he was standing in front of the door. 

Dominic and the people around also stepped aside on instinct, afraid the old man would kick them inside. Dane called Dominic's legal team right away because he knew they might charge his boss for trespassing.

Bear's fiery eyes gazed at the door, flexing his fingers before balling tightly into a fist. When he lifted his foot, everyone except Dominic flinched at the loud 'bam' that pierced their ears. The staff was especially speechless, watching the door with wide eyes and open mouths completely fall inside after just one kick. 

BAM!

BAM!

"Mhm..." Manager Chu's brows creased at the piercing noise. Her head instantly throbbed, making her wince with pain. "Ugh."

She held her head, pushing herself up. The striking pain in her head perpetually grew, sitting up, and looking around, confused. The moment her eyes landed on the unconscious body next to her, Manager Chu instinctively sprung up from her position. At that very moment, everything that had happened before she passed out came rushing to her mind until a piercing scream echoed in the living room. 

"KYAAA!!!"

Manager Chu flinched at the ear-splitting scream, raising her head. There, across the living area, was Paula, standing outside her bedroom. Paula's face screamed with horror, covering her mouth in surprise. 

'Why is she...?'Her thoughts trailed off as several figures came to the living area from the entryway. When Manager Chu veered her gaze to the newcomers, her heart thudded as she felt a sudden premonition the moment she saw Dominic Zhu. 

Dominic first turned his head to Paula, unblinking. Seeing that Paula was staring in a particular direction, he turned his head. The moment he and Manager Chu's eyes met, Manager Chu took a step back and dropped the trophy in her hand. 

Thud.

The sound of the trophy hitting the floor was faint, but somehow, it echoed in Manager Chu's ears. She gazed down and her already dilated eyes went even wider, having a grasp of what the scene looked like. 

"You…" Dominic instantly choked upon catching the pair of feet peeking out behind the couch. His mind immediately denied the conclusions that formed in his mind, marching toward Manager Chu, only to stop on the side of the couch. 

Even though Heaven's hair was almost covering her face, he would never mistake his wife. 

"Heaven," he whispered, rushing to her side and dropping to his knees. "Heaven!" 

Dominic turned Heaven around, and his heart stopped beating for a second. Blood was covering the side of her head, making him freeze for a moment.

"No, no, no." He shook his head, attempting to cradle her into his embrace, but his hand shook over her. The fear of moving her recklessly which might result in a much worse situation, stopped him from touching her. "Help! Dane! Help!"

Dominic's mouth opened and closed, but he temporarily lost the ability to speak a complete sentence. However, the desperation in his voice was enough to snap everyone back to reality. 

Dane blinked, still in utter panic. His wide eyes were fixed on the pair of feet peeking out behind the couch, and then he snapped at the nurse that came along with them.

"What are you still doing!?" Dane yelled his lungs out, holding himself back from pushing the nurse for not reacting quickly. "Someone needs help!" 

"Uh — yes!" the nurse quickly nodded, rushing to Dominic to see the situation. 

"You!" Meanwhile, when Bear recovered, his eyes just went completely dark. 

Seeing the humongous man's eyes glow in her direction, Manager Chu staggered back. 

"No," she whispered, shaking her head as Bear took gigantic steps toward her. "No, it wasn't… I didn't…"

Manager Chu was so confused and scared, she turned around to run away from the monster coming at her. However, just as she took a few steps, a hand grabbed the back of her collar. Everything happened so fast that the next thing she knew was the pain on her side as she crashed against the wall after being thrown like a doll.

BAM!

Dane flinched at Bear's aggressive and ruthless action, but Paula's reaction stole his attention. He turned his head in her direction, only to see her crying and screaming in fear. The staff went to her while the rest acted according to the situation. 

However, no trace of pity appeared on Dane's face while looking at Paula. 

"You!" Dane yelled, making Paula flinch as she looked up at him. The staff who were trying to calm her down also looked in Dane's direction, only to see the man grinding his teeth angrily. "Paula Shen, you are a terrible actress. You better start praying the young madam is fine, or things will not end well for you. I will make sure of that."

Paula's entire body shuddered as her eyes shook, taken aback at Dane's fierceness.
