Miracle
[The most incredible thing about miracles is that they happen.]1
Dominic stood still in that poise, frozen. His eyes didn't blink as they were fixed on the figure he deeply wished to stand up moments ago. His brows rose slightly as Heaven set her eyes back on him, forcing an awkward smile as she said;
"Hi?"
Hi?
His mouth partially fell open as he took a step toward his wife.
'Please... let this be real,' he whispered to his skipping heart, praying this wasn't a dream.
Strange, he thought. Not long ago, while he was cradling his wife's body while crying, he kept praying that this was nothing but a dream — a terrible nightmare he would soon wake up from. But now, ironically, he prayed this was true. That he wasn't simply hallucinating, and that he was sane.
"Please..." Dominic slowly raised his hand as he drew closer to her. "... let this be real."
He reached his hand out to her, pulling her into his embrace as tightly as he could. The moment he did, tears blurred his vision as her warmth immediately transferred straight to his heart.
Heaven's brows rose as she glanced at him before the corner of her lips curled up into a soft smile.
"Darling," she whispered, snaking her arms around his waist and then clutching his trembling back. "Don't cry anymore, baby."
Hearing her soft voice caress his ears was the force he needed to pull out the thorn — the entire pipe that had struck his throat down to his heart. His entire body trembled as he breathed out heavily through his parted lips, speechless at this miracle right before his eyes.
"You're back," he whispered in a shaking voice, tightening his embrace as if he was scared she would leave again. "You're back..."
"Mhm." Tears coated Heaven's eyes, which immediately rolled down on the side of her cheek, resting her chin on his shoulder. She slowly released her clutch from his back to pat it gently.
'I'm so glad.'Relief surged into her heart as she closed her eyes, breathing in and out, ignoring her slightly throbbing head. "I'm okay, love."
As Dominic and Heaven embraced each other, the people watching them couldn't determine which feeling was dominant in their hearts. Especially the doctors and those who were present at the time of Heaven's death.
Heaven... was dead.
Everyone was so sure of that.
She had no pulse, and her heart stopped beating for at least over an hour! She was already blue! How in the world was she walking as if nothing happened? Moreover, the cloth wrapped around her was the only thing that was covering her in the morgue. She was set to be dissected before her cremation.
Everyone's surprise and horror slowly turned into confusion.
"Doctor Huo, what is going on? Didn't you say my little Heaven is dead?!" Grandma Zhu's bark snapped everyone back to reality. "She doesn't look dead to me! Are you trying to kill this old woman with your incompetence?!"
"Uhh…" The doctor blinked countless times, eyes on Dominic and then at Heaven. "Old Madam, I'm very… this is impossible."
"Impossible?!" Grandma Zhu harrumphed. "Do you want my granddaughter-in-law to die then?!"
"Mother." Lionel, a fine middle-aged man, rushed to his mother's side, holding her shoulders gently. "Please be still. I'm sure there was a mistake that no one noticed."
"That's right, Mother," backed up by another gorgeous middle-aged woman, assisting Grandma Zhu to the other side. "Please, calm down. I'm certain there's just some discrepancy."
"The discrepancy is Doctor Huo's incompetence!" Grandma Zhu huffed, stomping her cane angrily. "How can you pronounce my granddaughter-in-law dead when she's not?! Do you have any idea of what this caused our family? Have you seen my little boy just now?! He looks like he will die as well!"
The poor head doctor who was the one who pronounced Heaven dead couldn't retort against the furious Grandma Zhu. He couldn't blame her, though. The death of Heaven Liu had caused deep distress in their family, only for her to be walking around alive!
Of course, they would think it was his fault! But it wasn't! Heaven was dead!
"Grandma…" Heaven whispered as she wanted to calm down the old madam, but Dominic just kept her still.
"Don't go," Dominic whispered, shunning his entire surrounding. "Stay like this for a while. Don't go... please."
Heaven slid her eyes to look at him, letting out a shallow breath. "Alright." She nodded slightly but still watched everyone behind Dominic.
Grandma Zhu continuously harrumphed while Dominic's parents tried to calm her down. Meanwhile, the doctor and his lackeys lowered their heads, apologizing and explaining what had happened. But Grandma Zhu would not hear of it.
"Dom, Grandma might have a heart attack if she doesn't calm down." After a minute of silence, Heaven raised her concern, seeing how red Grandma Zhu's face was right now.
Dominic didn't respond.
Heaven pressed her lips into a thin line, understanding the fear that was embracing Dominic, which wouldn't let him go. When she moved her gaze, she caught Axel looking at her with wide eyes and pale lips.
"Doctor, is my sister… really alive right now?" Axel's voice was low and shaky, but it managed to stop the angry Grandma Zhu and caught everyone's attention.
Doctor Huo turned to Axel and then to Heaven. "Well… from what I see, she is. However, we still need to do some tests and figure out why this happened."
"Old Madam Zhu, I sincerely apologized for this," he continued, setting his eyes to Grandma Zhu. "However, I will stay on my ground that Miss Liu was dead when I pronounced her dead. This… as a doctor, might sound ridiculous, but I call it a miracle. Even so, we have to recheck her vitals and condition."
"Hmph!" Grandma Zhu huffed and stomped her cane one more time, turning her head to the side. "You better do things properly this time!"
"Mother, don't get angry anymore," Madam Zhu, Dominic's mother, smiled gently as she lifted her gaze to her son and daughter-in-law. "What's important is that she seems okay. I'll take this scare any day, than having to hold a funeral for my daughter."
Heaven gazed back at the gorgeous woman beside Grandma Zhu, only for Axel to block her view as he suddenly leaped from Dominic's back to her side.
"Sis!!!" Heaven winced because Axel unintentionally wept right in front of her ear. "Huhu! Sis!! You scared us out of our wits! I thought I opened up my third eye!"
Axel continuously cried and yelled, hugging her and Dominic. He was as loud as he always was.
"Axel, tone it down…" Heaven closed one of her eyes as the throbbing in her head intensified. "I feel… dizzy."
Suddenly, her vision blurred as they shook, and before she knew it, darkness pulled her back once again.

Meanwhile...
Heaven stood in front of the line of seats near the morgue. She had her eyes on the small black ribbon on one of them, and the corner of her lips curled up into a subtle smile.
"Dominic Zhu," she whispered, picking up the small black ribbon. "I know you had forgiven me even before I asked, but I can't forgive myself for being foolish. I hope with this... I can."
