350: Why will she do that?

Author: BAJJ Word Count: 7012 Updated: 2025-06-06 12:55:05

Why will she do that?

After that meal, Heaven was already feeling the effects of a serious food coma. She didn't want to disappoint Grandma Zhu, and thus, she ate even when she felt like throwing up. Fortunately, Butler Fu butted in to remind Grandma Zhu that Heaven was still recovering. Eating too much might only hurt her stomach.  2

'I'm so full…'Heaven breathed out, lazing on the reclining bed.

Everyone was already finished eating as well, now enjoying their cup of tea to help the food go down.

"Hehe." Grandma Zhu patted Heaven's hand, giggling. "Don't worry, Little Heaven. Grandma will be in charge of your food from now on."

Heaven turned her head to Grandma Zhu, weeping inside as she never felt so scared with such generosity. Not that the food was not delicious, but she was afraid Grandma Zhu would bring an entire kitchen for her to eat. Heaven already thought she was a glutton, but with this amount of food, she felt ungrateful by complaining.

"Thank you, Grandma." Despite her inner sufferings, Heaven smiled at Grandma Zhu appreciatively.

"Now, rest, child." Grandma Zhu patted the back of her hand once again. "Don't worry about anything anymore, alright? The Zhu family will take care of everything."

This time, the mental suffering Heaven was going through halted. Looking at Grandma Zhu and how reassuring those words felt, Heaven sighed in relief.

"Thank you, Grandma." Heaven held the hand that was patting hers. "And I'm sorry for worrying you, Grandma."

"It's not your fault, child." Grandma Zhu shook her head.

'No, it was,'thought Heaven but kept it to herself.

She then turned her head to where Ria and Lionel were sitting.

"Mom, Dad," she called, feeling a bit awkward calling her in-laws such. "Thank you for coming today and I'm sincerely sorry for worrying you. I know you were on vacation, so I'm sorry for bothering you."

"Dear." Ria's eyes softened.

This time, Ria put down her cup of tea on the coffee table before walking to Heaven's side. She stood behind Grandma Zhu's chair, bearing a gentle smile that could soften even the coldest hearts.

"You are never a bother to us," she said. "Grandma is right. It's not your fault, but even so, we're all beyond relieved that you are fine. That's what matters. Besides, it's been a while since we visited you and Dom."

Ria glanced to her side as Lionel approached to hold her across the shoulder. "Last night, we realized that we hadn't been very focused on the family. If not for the incident, we wouldn't be here. If you really ended up… I'll be very regretful for not spending more time with my daughter-in-law."

"It should be us that is apologizing, Heaven." Lionel chimed in, offering Heaven an apologetic smile. "We should've looked after you and Dominic more."

"Don't worry now." Grandma Zhu held Heaven's hand with both hands, eyes soft. "We will take care of you very well from now on. No one will ever get to touch you. Grandma promises that to you."

"Grandma…" Heaven's eyes softened even more at the sense of protection she was getting from the three of them. When she lifted her gaze to her parent-in-law, they both nodded at her reassuringly.

"Thank you," she whispered, stopping herself from refusing their offers. It was what she needed, after all. "This is very reassuring."

"So, don't be afraid anymore." Grandma Zhu rocked her head in satisfaction. "Don't worry about anything anymore. You'll be safe from now on."

Just as those words rolled out of Grandma Zhu's mouth, the door opened. All of them instinctively turned their heads, only to see Dominic coming in. Dominic went straight to his wife's bed, sitting near her foot.

"It seems everyone already had a meal," he said, glancing at his parents, Grandma Zhu, and then settled his gaze on his wife after casting Sebastian a look. "Did you like Grandma's cooking?"

"Yes." Heaven nodded, keeping her son close to her.

After her answer, everyone was just smiling in satisfaction at her. Nothing was said, and it seemed they didn't plan on saying anything or asking Dominic questions. Even Sebastian was just smiling sweetly at her.

"Uhm…" Heaven cleared her throat. Since everyone was reluctant to have serious conversations about another important matter, she took it upon herself she had to bring it up on the table.

"Dom, where did you go?" she asked curiously.

"I was just outside, talking to Dane… and a few officers." Dominic tipped his head in the door's direction. "Don't worry, and just focus on recovering."

'Right…'Heaven rocked her head, knowing they weren't saying anything because they didn't want to bring up the 'trauma' she inflicted from last night's event.

However, she was dead curious. After all, she had no knowledge of what happened after she fell back into this body.

"Dom, what did the officers want?" she asked after a moment, bringing a pin-drop silence in the private ward. "Did they… catch the culprit?"

Dominic kept his lips drawn into a thin line as his eyelids drooped. Seeing his mood slightly change, Heaven couldn't help but glance at everyone. Everyone's faces dimmed. The complete opposite of their moods just before her question.

"Little Heaven." Grandma Zhu was the first to break the building silence. "We do not mind telling you what is the situation outside, but do you truly want to hear it?"

"Yes, Grandma." Heaven didn't hesitate to answer before facing Dominic squarely. "I know everyone is worried about me, but I want to get my justice. I nearly died. No. From what I heard, I was already dead."

"If not for this unexplained miracle, I wouldn't be here today." The smile on her face gradually disappeared. "I want to know the situation, Dom."

Dominic and Heaven stared at each other for a moment before a sigh slipped past his lips.

"The officers want to talk to you," Dominic explained, keeping it short and simple.

"Why?" she asked, guessing that Paula was still not in custody.

"Because Paula Shen admitted her crime last night, only to change her story this morning. That's why they needed you to take your statement and pinpoint who truly assaulted you," he continued solemnly.

"Paula is in custody?" Deep lines appeared between her brows, knowing the person they arrested last night was Manager Chu. "Did you say Paula confessed last night?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Guilt, perhaps?" Dominic shrugged. "She tried taking her life, but the nurse caught her on time. She then passed out, only to wake up after a moment, confessing everything to the officers waiting outside her ward."

"..." Heaven absorbed this information like a sponge, but thought it was weird. 'Why will she do that?'

Knowing what a piece of trash Paula was, she would never voluntarily surrender. She might cry and suffer silently, but she would never throw herself under the bus. Paula would rather kill than go down.

How suspicious.
